  • This colony of German Yellow Jackets (Vespula germanica) carved up their empire within this outdoor wood furnace! They were well protected in this structure but needed to be removed. Even though this colony was very relaxed, they do still attack and proved to be a threat to this client, and his grandchildren.

The main bug that doesn't sting that I can't stand is June bugs, thankfully we hardly got any this year and of course it tends to be around June. Chinese beetles really suck because we get them so bad certain times of the year, but I tend to get them in my house year-round because it's old and they find ways into the walls and get through my wood paneling, they can seem to live in the walls for months. I just ready pieces of Gorilla tape, stick them onto that and fold it before they release their smell, other than that they're just annoying as hell.
But I finally got around to putting some caulking in places I knew mud daubers were getting into when I started getting those this summer and it fixed that 100% so I might have sealed all the spots they've been getting into. It's so crazy the small holes mud daubers can get into, one time I was at my computer and I could just hear this intense buzzing, I look at the wall behind my desk and this mud dauber was fighting it's way through a hole not much larger than a .177 caliber BB. Will probably help for drafts in winter too.
We don't have a lot of flies anymore since we got rid of farm animals, but I have a low ceiling and I figured out flies get stuck in my forearm hair, so as an easy way to deal with flies I'd just hold my forearm up to the light and wait for flies to get stuck, then pick them out and pull their heads off lol.

I’m surprised that they weren’t aggressive. They knew what was happening to the nest and yet, they weren’t attacking at all, just being docile. I’ve seen videos where the hornets were super aggressive. These guys…not so much.
Also, those birds are definitely living the life of Riley. They get to feast on the remains of the nests Daddy removes.

    1. Out of all the places you removed Hornet nests from, like from a furnace, ceiling, etc. which places were the hardest to get the nest out of?

If done properly it wouldn't be an awful idea, I'd try and draw a queen with some premium forage to an ideal nesting location of your choice, like say an old wood chest that you could bore a hole into- then put something sugary and or protein rich in it. But, be sure to put it in a place far from where you frequently do things. If you really want to nail this stuff down- if you know where an active nest is you can try and put your nest chest within a few hundred feet for a few weeks around peak season- this I think would guarantee you a queen. Then, as before by spring be sure to put the nest chest far from high traffic areas. Unfortunately unless you have a large plot of land you're guaranteed to have foragers in your trash, and invading any outdoor food festivities throughout that year. I think that covers it as best I could imagine, however I'm sure there are masters of wasp apiary that'd be glad to help you👍

Have you ever thought of sourcing some longer flexible tube for your vacuum cleaner so that the unit is a little further away from you when you are working.
    Two benefits come to mind:
    1. You can leave it on the ground when you are working on a ladder.
    2. The sound wont be quite so loud in your videos because it is further away.
Seems to be plenty of it available on-line.

The longer hose/wand you have on the vacuum, the harder it is on the motor and the more likely it is to overheat, since the motor is cooled by the air it sucks in. So as you add more and more hose length, the suction and efficiency can suffer.

3:14 That one spider that happened to build it's web next to the hive:

I'm terrified of wasps/hornets (though less so after watching a lot of these videos, even cupped a solitary wasp last autumn to put him outside), but learning about them and understanding better about them is the best way to deal with that fear... and they are obviously important parts of our ecosystem. I'll still give them aw ide berth, but at least I know more about them now LOL

I do not have a "bee" suit, but when I have to get rid of a yellow jacket nest I use a 10 ft aluminum tube attached to my shop vac which has a couple of inches of water in it. I just turn it on by the entrance to the nest and walk away. An hour later or so most of the critters are captured. The rest get to eat bug spray.

One of the easiest removals I've ever watched you do, seemed like they barely swarmed or were slow to the party.

Your intro is like a Warhammer intro for the Tyranids. I can't remember when I subbed, but you were pretty damn small (maybe around 2k subs? had a couple big viral videos though). Been a couple years since then and you're just absolutely exploded in size.
