    Positive sign means with rotation
    Negative sign against the rotation
    Is it right or wrong?

Would placing the reflector and sensor in horizontal alignment provide a more accurate measurement?

Not more accurate, but maybe you will get slightly higher vibrations in horizontal position of the sensor on this kind of machine.

DO NOT run the fan with the hatch cover off! This will be a violation of safety protocol on EVERY plant site! You never know what is in that ductwork - product, welding slag, welding rods, etc. You don't want that coming out of the fan. If you are using “clamp on” weights they can and DO come off sometimes. Hatch only needs a couple of fasteners, but NEVER run a fan with the hatch cover off!!!

Besides the safety aspect, leaving the hatch open can also give a faulty reading as air flow turbulence can have an effect on the fan runner. By closing the hatch you create the working condition of the fan.
