Great episode. Bought my first HK in 1986 in Ft Campbell, KY. Paid a fellow GI $250 for a P7 when he had a child and his wife didn't want a gun in the house. He purchased it with a pawn ticket from another GI for $200 who was about to lose it at the pawn shop. I still have that pistol in great condition. Put it away for over 25 years in the 90's. Took it to the range this year and the owner offered me $2K cash for the pistol. Of course I said "No". To this day, I also own a VP9 and a VP9SK. Love all my HKs. They remind of my tour in Nuremburg, Germany. Erlangen actually.
I'm envious. I've wanted a P7M8 for 10 years and used to balk at the asking price. I wish I would have paid up back then because they just keep climbing in value.

@@DeFenderCo got 2 p30s that are v3....should I get one with LEM trigger? or is it gonna throw me off in my training? I like v3 bc the sa/da makes it good for cc (to avoid accidental discharges).
@@wcsdiaries That's exactly what the LEM trigger is designed for. A very long deliberate first shot, and then SA follow ups from there forward. I'd rent one before committing to a purchase though.
I was on board with you until you said don't worry about carrying an extra magazine. Now, when it comes to HK, sure, you don't NEED a backup mag, but on lower end/high production firearms (Glock, SIG, Beretta, Kimber) you absolutely should have a spare mag JUST IN CASE you have a malfunction and need to throw the first mag away. EDIT: I also got my VP9 for $400 with a case, all grips and only one mag. I also bought a Holosun EPS and TLR-7A gunlight at the same time for $200 for both; insanely good prices I couldn't walk away from. Oh, and the firearm light and greendot sight were new in box.
Looked at the vp9L today. Found your video. One of the best informational videos I have ever watched. Really appreciated the way you presented the information re the firearm.
Got into HKs in 2001 yhis video is an excellent explanation of a series of pistols that is sometimes overwhelming(German) in their idiosyncrasies. Well done.
In Germany those guns cost 800€ except VP9 long slide which is 1200€ and HK USP long slide 1500 (short slide is 800), Glock, Walther, Beretta APX etc cost also around 800€, while Sig Sauer p226, or Bereta 92FS cost more around 1500€, I'll probably go with HK p30 and or a Glock 17 or 34.

My dream gun out of the 24 ish guns I’ve owned has always been the p30l since before even John Wick haha. Finally got it NEW for $650 I think they priced it wrong because every other Hk was over 1 grand unless it was an sk the. They were $800 I’ve had 4 hks and had I not needed to sell most of my collection… I’d still have some dope and 1911s sig and Hk but alas I’m starting anew and the p30ls new for that price? Good start!
Wow! I'm a new left-handed shooter who is sold on the VP9L OR. Throughout all the videos I've seen this is by far the most comprehensive video out there on the subject. I'm a CA resident so I will have to buy mine in a PPT, due it being off roster, but when I hear how much people buy to upgrade their guns (esp Glocks) after purchase it's well-worth the additional cost to know I'll be satisfied and am getting a quality product.
I have the P30L V3 and I love it. It was my first gun but I’m not sure about the trigger. I heard Gray Guns make a great trigger for it. I was thinking about getting it. Is it really worth it?
Had the flat faced with the Gray guns short reset on a v3, ended changing it back to the stock trigger. The flat faced trigger is amazing in single action but sucks in double. But definitely get the short reset
What fiber optic front sight do you have on the K&K USP EXPERT? I have the jet fullel one in layaway and I want to replace the front sight with a proper height fiberoptic one if possible. Not sure what height is required to match the adjustable factory rear irons. Thanks!
Good video. But did you say striker fire has a better trigger feel than hammered? First time in heard that. Maybe the first shot from a hammer gun but certainly not one the hammer is back. I own HKs, carry a P30SK, love them, but don't think their strikers are quite there yet. Interesting that you find it otherwise. The slide going home after slapping the mag in isn't a feature I don't believe. It's just inertia moving the catch. I don't know if a gun that has that as a feature.
I recently got a USP Expert, I don’t usually see USPs in the store so I had to fold and blow my stack of cash. I was in the market for a full-size 9mm and was close to just doing a glock. My FN 5.7 isn’t really affordable to feed as of late with the lack of ammo making it double in price despite 3-5 new guns emerging and running the sweet little round. My USP is glorious and my only regret was I didn’t get it a decade ago. Great video, I’ll be subbing and checking out your other videos 🍻
Nice. I just put a 9mm USP expert on layaway yesterday. They had a used standard USP for $600 cheaper in the shop. But something about the expert made me say "fudge it".
I just don’t get the LEM trigger, or how it is better than a consistent striker fired trigger. Maybe it is my 1911 time, but I can’t imagine the LEM being better than cocked and locked either.
You have to experience it for yourself. I was the same way about it until I had one; did not understand the appeal. That said nothing beats a 1911 trigger.
Shoot, man. I would have stuck with the $560 purchase price of your VP9, plus the Heinie sights... Good to go!!!! Anyway to each his own, I understand it's your hobby and you have some nice guns set up.
Let me tell you a bit about the cost of an HK in South Africa: HK no longer import into SA, but you can get them via custom important with license. Convert to USD and you would be paying around 2000USD with a few extra magazines. Cost: you need to complete a course on the basic firearms act and one on self loading pistols (you would do the same for the other 3 firearm classes), cost of applying for a license. Don't forget about spare parts as buckups, a safe to store your firearm as one is mandatory, ammunition and the cost to renew your firearm license every 5-10 years depending on what section you apply for. Its all complicated but worth it. You can get any gun you want in any configuration and ammo capacity all over the country, just not full auto.
Feels like when I wanted to get a genuine 416 and paid through the nose for it. Glad you're able to get the products you want but the mark up has got to make you cry more than once.
@DeFenderCo yes, the mark-up is mad. The best affordable gun I can get that's not Glock with great support is Canik and CZ (among some others as well, like S&W, Sig Sauer, etc). But I'll always have a soft spot for HK
I wish HK and Walther made their other long slides WITHOUT the slide cut outs…. Just use a lighter recoil spring! I’m just paranoid about debris getting into the gun.
What's so hard about describing an LEM trigger? It feels more like a striker fired gun than anything ive shot. To me, it feels nothing like a single action trigger. I've shot lots of 1911s and have a Hi Power. They feel nothing like an LEM trigger, to me.
Love my VP70Z, USP Elite .45acp, VP9 SK, never had an issue in 50 years. Also love my Walther PDP, Love my 3 Glocks. Love my CZ metal pistols. Love vz52 7.62x25TT 🍺👍☮️🇺🇲 Excellent sober mature presentation 👍
I had Heinie install all the sites on my HK's. I don't want to mess up such an important part, so I ponied up the $50 in labor to have them do it at their factory in IL. I love them and can't recommend them enough.
@@DeFenderCo I recently read in a forum where it was possible to add the safety back to an LEM pistol. It seemed odd, but maybe some people want to be extra extra safe, lol. Anyway, great video and I appreciate the answer.
Wow very comprehensive video here with tons of info. Been looking to get an HK handgun for a while I just have such a hard time deciding between a USP compact, P2000, or P30 lol. I like the fact that the P2000 has a shorter grip and can be concealed more easily but other than that the ergos of the P30 are amazing. Always wanted a USP if for no other reason then I know that it’s the gun you take to hell and back if it hits the fan. Wish I could buy all of them eventually lol. I’ve seen a lot of the V3 DA/SA P30’s lately. Do you think the trigger in SA is just as good as the LEM? Can’t seem to find a LEM anywhere these days. Although some people claim that the LEM is just better all around, I guess I’m impartial but haven’t felt one in person yet as none of my local stores have any HK’s so I’d have to order one. Thoughts? If you could have a V3? Is the SA trigger pull really that bad?
I have 2 P30L models; my LEM in the video and a V3 undergoing some R&D work. The V3 SA mode is great, but the reset sucks. So if all you can find is a V3, grab it and put the Grey Guns short reset kit in it. I think you'll be pleased with it.
@@DeFenderCo yeah that’s what I’ve heard about the grey guns kit that it totally changes everything. Might need to look into that if I get one in the future. Hopefully soon! Good to hear that the v3 isn’t as terrible as some say. I’m not so worried about a heavy and long DA pull that’s kind of the point lol but for precision shots it would be nice to have a great SA pull. At least be able to hit targets at 25 yards or so hopefully that’s not asking too much from a pistol like this.
@@DIYDad1 You can hit 25 yards all day every day with the stock V3 SA mode. But if speed is your goal, the Grey Guns short reset kit is a must. The long reset in SA mode will cost you time on follow up shots.
Excellent video. I love the USP but never could make that stupid “ergonomic” grip work for me. I have had a couple of P30s but sold them in frustration.
@@DeFenderCo I just found a USP 9mm V1 with match trigger. The gun is from 1994. Can you do a video on how you install this. Does it give you the crisp trigger of match but in Lem?
The most expensive pool you've ever swam in? Lol 2011 style platform puts that to shame. That said the HK pull is still very strong and a LTT P30L LEM optic ready is on my next grab list. Great video man. Thanks for sharing those premium pieces.
Great video! I have a USP9 and a USP9c. Deciding between an expert or a Mark 23. But in the meantime I just like watching videos of how good a decision I made 🤣 Subbed 👍
What you say is very true.. me and my dad (RIP) both went and plopped down the money for our own HK USPcompact 357sigs however the availability Was so far out for that the dealer offered us different pistols he took the 40 I took the 45 2 tone version perit I still have his 40 but have long since traded my 45. One of the considering factors was indeed the horrible trigger pull. My thinking was if I ever got into any altercation and injured my hand there was no way to pull that trigger double action
If you don't already you really need to drive down the road to the SAR show from time to time. I'm in WA but go to it. Family in cave creek helps lol. Lots of great deals at the shows.
I really enjoyed your review. I'm in Spain and looking for a gun to start on IPSC. HK has always been a "bucket list" brand. In eur the model is the SFP9 OR Match. What are your thoughts Vs the CZ Shadow 2?
Thanks for watching my content! The Shadow 2 is a far better pistol than the SFP9 is; but it also different in that it is hammer fired vs striker fired. The CZ is really an excellent pistol, but will likely be 2x times the price of the HK. If you can find a place to handle and shoot them both side by side, that should help you make a decision. Typically I recommend which ever you can shoot more accurately and feels more natural to your hand.
@@DeFenderCo thanks again for advice, this is exactly what I needed. Here in Spain the price between the two are not that much (very expensive both) around 1400 eur. It is almost impossible to try out the HK thus not such a popular as the CZ . I'm a marketing guy and can't help falling in love with a brand and in my head HK was as good pistol. Aren't striker pistols better for IPSC?
@@pochobailey I don't think they are better or worse (striker vs hammer) but here in the states there are way more CZ Shadow 2 guns in competition than HK SFP9s. By like quadruple. So that tells me that there is something these guys like better with the CZ than HK. The price difference here in the states are nearly double for the CZ. I say that as an HK fanboy. The CZ is a really nice pistol out of the box.
I have a Shadow2 that is in pieces getting an Apex trigger job put in. I have a VP9 (grey frame) that I cut for a dot. I’m seriously debating getting a P30L.
You can but you need to start with a V3 and buy the parts to convert to an LEM; it will render the decocker inactive as the LEM cannot be carried hammer back.
great video... but i always ask the same question... why 9mm? the p30L comes in .40 .. the usp comes in .40 and .45 (and u can get a conversion from 9) and when it comes to vp9... well there is always vp40 which is basically the same gun but with a bigger punch. so the question stands... why do u like 9mm?
I started life out in .45 ACP and found that while it does pack a big punch, it lacked capacity and was harsher to shoot all day. So to make all my guns standardized I switched to 9mm as the P30L and VP9 share magazines and ammo types. I also only have 5.56 ARs so that all my mags will feed all my rifles.
Good news! We organized a clean up and it looks so much better. I felt the same way and made a rant about it in my Buy Once Cry Once episode 3 about people who trash public land.
Great episode. Bought my first HK in 1986 in Ft Campbell, KY. Paid a fellow GI $250 for a P7 when he had a child and his wife didn't want a gun in the house. Thank you for your time you spent on this video it clearly shows that you spent a lot of time putting this together thank you for that, the continent was great. I have a P30SK and the VP9, I really enjoy shooting the both of them.
Thanks for taking the time to watch it! Makes it worth it when people enjoy the content.
@@DeFenderCo is the LEM trigger as long as the v3? I noticed even after the first shot the trigger has to travel very far
Best review I’ve seen! Bravo. Great job
Did you buy it? Glad you enjoyed my home made content.

Good start!
That’s a great price. I paid $ 715 back on 2/2020 for my P30L LEM. No regrets though.
You won't be disappointed with any current HK pistol offering. they are really well made.
I have the P30L V3 and I love it. It was my first gun but I’m not sure about the trigger. I heard Gray Guns make a great trigger for it. I was thinking about getting it. Is it really worth it?
I can't speak to the flat faced trigger, only the short reset kit which is a must have in my opinion.
Had the flat faced with the Gray guns short reset on a v3, ended changing it back to the stock trigger. The flat faced trigger is amazing in single action but sucks in double. But definitely get the short reset
You’re draw stroke is clean AF. Very simple and efficient… well done sir
Thank you. I feel it needs tons of work still from concealment.
What fiber optic front sight do you have on the K&K USP EXPERT? I have the jet fullel one in layaway and I want to replace the front sight with a proper height fiberoptic one if possible. Not sure what height is required to match the adjustable factory rear irons. Thanks!
Please do a video on the expert with the LEM. Thanks.
As soon as I can find the parts kit, I'd be happy to.
Great video. Literally one of the best videos I’ve seen in a long time.
WOW! Thanks for taking the time to watch my content.
I wish the P30L was a 5 inch gun w/ the o-ring also.
The threaded barrel makes it a 5" barrel, but yeah I feel you on that. Would make it the top tier gun instantly.
Great content and great style of delivery!
Definitely getting a VP9L and a USP45 V1 already got a P30S V3 9mm 17rd and a P30sk V3 9mm for EDC
The slide going home on a loaded mag IS a feature that HK has put in the operators manuals.
What are the iron sights and red dot you used to have them aline just incase of a failed red dot?
Why is your table a brick wall? Excellent and informative video regardless!
It is a vinyl drop sheet to look like brick; it was to show contrast against the black barrels and slides.
@@DeFenderCofacepalm, saw that later in the video right after posting!
I have 2 out 3. HKs are straight quality.
Late to the party but I installed my Lazy Wolf a year ago and have shot thousands of rounds through it with no issues. Love that trigger.
I had thousands of rounds through mine too until that one day when it broke.
@@DeFenderCo would you recommend the Grey Guns trigger then over the Lazy Wolf?
@@mikexlr8I haven’t heard anything negative about GGs trigger.
Good to know about that lazy wolf trigger for the VP9. I was looking into them just to have a flat face trigger.
Yeah, i dont blame Rick at LWG, but that trigger was a disaster
Shoot, man. I would have stuck with the $560 purchase price of your VP9, plus the Heinie sights... Good to go!!!!
Anyway to each his own, I understand it's your hobby and you have some nice guns set up.
Let me tell you a bit about the cost of an HK in South Africa:
HK no longer import into SA, but you can get them via custom important with license.
DaFuq those fingers at 44:38?? 😳 Khole Kardashian making pistols now?
I wish HK and Walther made their other long slides WITHOUT the slide cut outs…. Just use a lighter recoil spring!
I’m just paranoid about debris getting into the gun.
Welcome to the #HkMasterRace
The only time it's okay to be a racist.
Love vz52 7.62x25TT

Excellent sober mature presentation 👍
Wright armory does all my work! Love em
They are about to mill my USP full size for the iDot system with an RMRcc. I will make a video about the process.
@@DeFenderCo looking forward to it
How hard were those sights to install? Are you happy with them on the P30l?
I had Heinie install all the sites on my HK's. I don't want to mess up such an important part, so I ponied up the $50 in labor to have them do it at their factory in IL. I love them and can't recommend them enough.
I am looking to change my front sight on my USP Expert 9mm. What height/brand did you go with?
Just to clarify - your LEM pistol also has the safety lever? How did you add that?
No. My P30L V1 LEM has a Gray Guns short reset trigger setup. There are no external safety levers, and no decockers for LEM frames in a P30 model.
@@DeFenderCo I recently read in a forum where it was possible to add the safety back to an LEM pistol. It seemed odd, but maybe some people want to be extra extra safe, lol. Anyway, great video and I appreciate the answer.
I'm a true Glockaholic, but... my H&KS are my favorites. Can't help it.
Ah, face diapers outside in the middle of freakin nowhere. I love my Vp9L OR, btw. Great video!
Excellent video. I love the USP but never could make that stupid “ergonomic” grip work for me. I have had a couple of P30s but sold them in frustration.
Great information! What suppressor do you have on your P30L?
I'm debating p30l Lem lite and a H&K USP 9mm V1 match trigger be for range use mostly but never know.
So I'm doing the hybrid on my USP expert; it already has the match trigger, but you add the LEM kit on top of that which is what I want.
@@DeFenderCo I just found a USP 9mm V1 with match trigger. The gun is from 1994. Can you do a video on how you install this. Does it give you the crisp trigger of match but in Lem?
@@blackbeargear8884 That's exactly the idea behind it. I have not found the conversion parts yet to do the swap.
@@DeFenderCo keep us posted
The most expensive pool you've ever swam in? Lol 2011 style platform puts that to shame. That said the HK pull is still very strong and a LTT P30L LEM optic ready is on my next grab list. Great video man. Thanks for sharing those premium pieces.
I mean, buying an out of the box HK is cheap compared to building a 416, a PSG-1, or a Tommy Built G36.
@DeFenderCo you got that right!! A true psg1 is probably tippy top of my grail list. Roller delayed never goes out of style.
Why do people call po lig ah nal Polly gone all?
Great video! I have a USP9 and a USP9c. Deciding between an expert or a Mark 23. But in the meantime I just like watching videos of how good a decision I made 🤣
Subbed 👍
Get both! They are excellent
@@Jkan2001 timeline update : I did!
@@stevo5459 good lord, both? Small fortune there but totally worth it. I have a 9mm Expert and it’s easily my favorite pistol
Are you the one on HK forums developing the Wicked Comp? Would like to see a function test video
Can't get any better than this for info, thank you.
Thanks for watching my home made content. I appreciate the feedback.
Awesome video!!!
Great video, especially for HK nerds.
@@DeFenderCo more like 3times the cost.
I have a Shadow2 that is in pieces getting an Apex trigger job put in. I have a VP9 (grey frame) that I cut for a dot. I’m seriously debating getting a P30L.
Does the 17 round mag vp9 fit the vp9L?
Yes. The VP9,P30, and all variants (long slide, match, tactical) share mags.
@@DeFenderCo ahh ok the 20 rounders are a lil hard to conceal
Nice to see ya back! Loved the video as always
Thanks for being patient, and glad you enjoyed the content.
Can you get a LEM Trigger and a standard De-Cocking level on a P30 L...
You can but you need to start with a V3 and buy the parts to convert to an LEM; it will render the decocker inactive as the LEM cannot be carried hammer back.
Why are a lot of the shooting ranges out west basically trash dumps?
Because people suck.
My CZ P-10 C’s & F do the full (10 rounds for me in HI) magazine slide close as well.
Great review great detail. I wish I got the VP9L but I still love my VP9
You can always get the long slide kit if you absolutely must have the extra length.
I think the kit is an improvement, as it comes with suppressor height sights.
@@donrichter3523 Mine didn't. Mine came with competition sights; blank rear and fiber optic red front sight.
I like my P30L. I just wish it had the same trigger as my Sig Legion p226.
Look into Gray Guns. They have excellent upgrades for the P30L trigger.
Who cuts R.D.S. Mounting Slots on H.K. Pistols slides?
Parker Mountain Machine, Wright Armory.
My USP tactical doesn’t close automatically on a full mag… vp series doesn’t seem the same level of quality.
great video... but i always ask the same question... why 9mm? the p30L comes in .40 .. the usp comes in .40 and .45 (and u can get a conversion from 9) and when it comes to vp9... well there is always vp40 which is basically the same gun but with a bigger punch. so the question stands... why do u like 9mm?
I started life out in .45 ACP and found that while it does pack a big punch, it lacked capacity and was harsher to shoot all day. So to make all my guns standardized I switched to 9mm as the P30L and VP9 share magazines and ammo types. I also only have 5.56 ARs so that all my mags will feed all my rifles.
Have you seen ammo prices lately?
How is the recoil of p30L compared to sigs or Glocks?
Is that a KAC can on the P30L in your thumbnail?
It's an airsoft replica of the SOCOM MK23 KAC can.
Great video. Another unashamed HK fanboy here. I have to say it though, the condition of that range at 0.13 and 0.50 makes me sad.
Good news! We organized a clean up and it looks so much better. I felt the same way and made a rant about it in my Buy Once Cry Once episode 3 about people who trash public land.
