I imagine that young Heifetz was playful and engaging and delighted to enjoy his new country. But his towering talent must have put him in a difficult position of always having to protect his privacy, and he became this formal man we hear in this call. Clearly he doesn't want to hurt the student's mother. I love the insight into his personality the PBS teaching tapes give us. His super dry sense of humor, and exacting requirements. All of this personality stuff melts though when you hear him play.
Heifetz at his old age might be act rudely sometimes but I think he’s being very reasonable here. The rejection he made benefit everyone including Rudolf’s mother, imaging being surrounded by young people at the party and can’t follow any of their topics. And the fact that he explained to him directly instead of just tell him the answer through his assistant.
The students were all adults. He probably did not want the interference of people who were just there to meet him because he was famous. He was very protective of his time, and privacy, and even went as far as to travel under another name at the height of his fame.
I think the pictures are a little ridiculous. Other than that it was good to hear him speak. Did He know he was being recorded? Probably not but who cares. It's very nice to have the Great Jascha Heifetz recording with His voice.... A Rare opportunity. change the pictures and it will be perfect. (Kind of silly to see a super model in the pictures)
I think Heifetz was very nice to invite his students with with their dates, which could possibly doubles the amount of the guests. If parents would be welcome too, it could have quadruple the amount of guests! But very liberal that he offered Rudolf to bring eventual a boy… did he sense that Rudolf might be gay???
@Kevin Huang I agree. The implication in the response by Pitborn in which he implies that Heifetz is after the "young beauties" is what I was answering.

Completely agreed. It's a date night not a chaperone night.
Notice how the pictures change according to the part of the conversation 😂
Lmao at the pics - lighten up some of you....!

Imagine the same convos in text messages today it would set a whole different tone.
This must be real, right? If so, thank you so much! But who recorded it and why? Was it even legal?
Evey call is recorded
@@OttoKuus In that case, I'd like to hear more phone calls with Heifetz :)
@@wombat5628 don't we all

Haha, not very generous by the master! His concern is that mom will be incompatible with the young beauties he obviously appreciates a lot.
You are wrong. See the PBS documentary about Heifetz. He was nothing like you portray him.

The audio is good but the pictures are VERY innapropriate!! Take them OFF!!!
