    regarding the frequent card shuffling the first thing we changed when playing was to cancel the shuffle until the start of a new epoch. The deck is too large and adding those cards back in is too minor to shuffle the deck so often

    The disks used for many things is a bit of a holdover to the old Civilization from Avalon Hill. Balancing your disks for growth and powers is a delicate act.

      did one play solo (and one multi) so far. So have a lot of different ways to play solo: historical scenarios, sandbox games, exploration games... I did one of the historical one, you start with your roman empire at his top and try to resist some invasions from Persians (on the Eastern part) and Visigoths (on the Western part).
      this 1st game was just to learn how the AI is going to act and react to situations, and how they will place theirs disks, play theirs cards, spend their talents...
      So in my really short experiment, it was fun to play, using sometimes the "what would I do" instead of losing too much time in the charts, and I will try it again for sure

    I ditched this one after one play. I found the "take that" card play not a great mix for a long game like this. The shuffling also was ridiculous. That seems to be a universal opinion.

    Cody... This game really sounds like Mare Nostrum by Academy games... without the high production quality, and the cool add ons (camels, temples). I can see where a big group game would be fun... lots of chatter and razing. Being mostly a solo player and with a desire to have a little more pinache instead of hum drum wooden markers... I don't think this would be on my BUY list.

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer
      @TheDiscriminatingGamer  5 років тому

      There are a lot of similarities to Mare Nostrum, for sure. This game is not for everybody, however. I really got a kick out of it.

    • @denissauzedde8057
      @denissauzedde8057 5 років тому +2

      Mare Nostrum is a game where you have to work on maintening a balance of power between players. I have the feeling that you might not win only by yourself but because of someone else's mistake!
      ACIS is much lighter than this and you cannot go for a long term strategy, or at least it's very hard to stick with one.
