Here's what I appreciate most about you, MrBallen: You convey human stories with empathy, and respect for the people involved. You're not the typical greedy-eyed, money-grubbing sociopath with a serious case of terminal schadenfreude. You honor these people's stories. Thank you.
Yeah some come off as sadistic when they tell these stories. Even the news has a way of reporting these things with fake empathy but he genuinely talks about it like he knew the people involved personally.
I' m a little confused right now.... I knew, that a few german words (like Kindergarten for example) are adapted in the english language. But "Schadenfreude"? Really? I'm seriously asking if there's no word in english for it? And - by the way- what does it tell about us germans (scratch my head) Bc. "Schadenfreude" is the worst type of joy someone could have..🙄
@@peshadowbird7320 I used the German because there's really nothing similar in English. I'm not particularly well-read or anything, I learned the word from Avenue Q. I think sometimes, schadenfreude has a place, even a healing quality. When appropriate, of course.
I knew Jennifer Riodern well. One of her sons was on my baseball team, and we still see each other every day . She was a great lady, and she always gave us drinks and snacks after a game. Thank you for being so empathetic and understanding with this story
Sobbing. Especially when Holly put her hand on Jennifer's back and the lady put her hand on Holly's back. And the two men pulling her in, risking their own safety. This is humanity at its finest. RIP Jennifer.
Nice job. Jennifer was a dear friend of mine. Our kids went to school together and we sat on a board of directors together for a number of years. Jennifer had the biggest heart, the brightest smile and she touched the hearts of everyone she met. Her loss was very hard on our community here in Albuquerque. Thank you for sharing both her and Hollie's stories. An interesting piece of information that also gets overlooked is that because Jennifer's seatbelt held her in place it potentially saved the life of the middle passenger as well as allowed Jennifer's family to lay her body to rest and say goodbye.
Truly a contagious smile if ever I saw one! No one could smile like that unless they had a beautiful, happy soul. Also, those are really interesting things you pointed out - thanks for sharing xx
I read Jennifer had a husband and two children and she was on her way back home to Albuquerque. She was a wonderful person. May Jennifer rest in peace. My condolences to her family.
Let’s not forget to give props to the pilot who was able to land that plane safely . Holly was so heroic and thank God she saved the young girl . I cried like a baby when you said they touched each other’s backs … such a beautiful thing that occurred in that horrific situation
This one was truly heartbreaking. When he said that they put their hands on each other to say "you're not alone; we may not be able to do anything but you are not alone", it made me cry, too. What a beautiful moment of the human experience in the middle of such a terrible tragedy 💜.
I’m so sorry for the horrific loss of Jennifer. I can’t imagine how scary that must have been. Thank goodness for people like Hollie, the gentleman that recovered her body, and the woman who initiated CPR.
I was glad to hear she died of blunt force trauma and not suffocation or ruptured organs. She didn't seem to have suffered much or had to see her death coming which is definitely worse than the actual death in a lot of these sorta cawes
Hearing the part about Holly putting her hand on Jennifer's back to let her know she wasn't alone and then the lady in row 15 reaching over and doing the same thing made me burst into tears. I'm glad she wasn't alone when she passed away. No one deserves to die alone
@@brotherkhrayn3525 Yeah, I was worried this would be the case, and I definitely think it was. But she still wasn't alone and I really hope she knew that in someway somehow.
I can't help but visualize what Holly was seeing, and what she was experiencing. At the same time, I can't even imagine how she was feeling or what she was seeing. But I do hope, for Jennifer's sake especially, but also for Holly, that this was a very quick, or better yet, instantaneous death. Otherwise, it's almost to upsetting to imagine. Being in a situation where you're utterly helpless like that.... I don't know how you ever recover. As horrifying as Jennifer's experience was, in many ways, I feel worse for Holly. Jennifer may not have even known what happened, God willing. But Holly... She had to watch, hear, feel every second of it. Devastating, all the way around.
Jennifer was my good friend's boss. From all accounts she was a truly kind and compassionate person. Her loss was devastating not only to her friends and family but to the whole of the Albuquerque community. She was a good one lost way too soon. May her memory forever be a blessing to those that loved her.
I feel so terrible for everybody involved, Holly and Jennifer especially of course, but also that poor pre-teen girl. That must have been so incredibly traumatic at such a young age.
@@OutragedPufferfish exactly! when my school exploded i was the only survivor. i lost all my limbs and have to spend the remainder of my life in a hospital but i refuse to be the victim! i don't even need therapy.
I knew Jennifer Riordan personally. We worked closely for 5 year in Citibank in Albuquerque NM. She was a very sweet person. It was so sad to here about what happened. It really affected the community. Jennifer left small kids and a great husband. I pray for the family.
I am a flight attendant for SWA and I have heard the details of this tragedy from many angles (including the cockpit voice recorder, FAA investigation findings and pilots who have broken it down moment by moment) but you have humanized the horror like no one else ever has.
My sister is also a flight attendant. Bless your heart for being so patient. I've heard stories from her on how absolutely ruthless and beyond rude passengers are.... flight attendants are people too (with actual human feelings), and that seems to fly out the window when they are in the air. Literally, they don't know how to be a civilized human any longer. A quote that comes to mind "humans have evolved over billions of years, act like it" when I think of these absent minded idiots
@@MsMichigan Welcome to working in customer service. I believe EVERY person should have to work at least a full year, especially during the holidays, in some kind of retail/customer service job. @@Crowski I completely agree! I did retail (cosmetics) for almost 10 years, and it's crazy looking in to the psyche of people. Mr. Ballen, this episode almost brought me to my knees. My heart is aching for Jennifer and her family. I also fly southwest airlines. My last flight I had an eerie feeling and I haven't been on a plane since then.
That small gesture of Holly placing her hand on Jennifer's back to comfort her (even though she was probably already gone) was both beautiful and heart breaking
Can we just talk about how Holly's first reaction when we couldn't get her mask on was to check on her fellow passengers? Then as soon as she realized what happened the first thing she did was pull that girl that had been ignoring them close and protect her? Holly seems like such a kind soul.
I hope survivor's guilt didn't affect her too strongly. After all, she had first picked the window seat on which Jennifer died, but moved to isle seat before anyone else took a seat on her row.
I wouldn't say ignoring but more minding her own business. From this story it seems the only conversation she had with the other passenger was that she needed to go to the bathroom.
So she claims. She could have been tending to herself for the first 5 mins, we wouldn't know. Jennifer is not able to give the other side of the story.
@@lilsaint91 ……..either way the reaction was as immediate as possible. She was in shock you make it sound like she was being selfish. Jennifer was dead the second it happened with the window bursting Holly did more than she could have.
Although this has a very sad ending, it’s super comforting knowing what Holly and those two men did for Jennifer. Risking one’s life for a complete stranger is as heroic as it comes and truly a thing of beauty. God bless
It's amazing how sometimes what are simple decisions we make can end up literally being a life or death situation. If she didn't drink that big coffee before the flight she definitely would have been sitting by the window. I'm sure this is something she thinks about everyday. I know I would.
People die everyday, most people don't deserve it, but that's how this cruel world works. We have to accept that bad things happen to good people, we just have to make the most of what time we have. Hopefully what time she was alive was amazing. Much love✌️
That's why Billy Joel has his song "Only the Good Die Young". Since this was released a few yrs before I was born I grew up listening to it and oh boy was I the child, and esp teen, from hell.
Wonderful how strangers were so respectful and compassionate towards Jennifer and also the lady in row 15 towards Holly. Kudos to the flight crew for landing the plane safely.
The survivors guilt Hollie must have after this is completely undeserved, she acted out of kindness and consideration. and when the situation became dire she stood her ground and showed strength in trying to save the lives of two others in clear disregard of her own. She has earned my respect and i hope the respect of everyone who hears her story.
@BARDLEG Who cares, he is speaking his mind, which isn't a crime. UNLESS, it is the UA-cam comment whore that is literally everywhere, Just Some Guy Without A Mustache. It's a opinion and like assholes everyone has one. 😂🤣🤷♂️

Why does it bother you THAT much? Mad because you've never gotten more than a few likes yourself? Sheesh, it's not that serious. Edit for spelling.
I recall hearing about this story when it happened and thinking about how terrifying the entire situation would be for the women in that row. Hearing it from MrBallen I'm struck by the heart-wrenching sadness for them. MrBallen is better at these stories than any news coverage I've ever seen.
I remember the incident as well. The victim was going home to Albuquerque, she was an executive at Wells Fargo Bank. Being a native, that fact alone is what stood out to me when this happened. As far as flying, my father was a retired Colonel in the USAF and flying in planes was natural in my world. I'm still not afraid to fly, I'm just sick of the gestapo TSA crap. Therefore, I drive.
Thank you for leaving your emotion in the video and not doing a re-take. Your eyes are getting a shine to them (as were mine listening to the story). It is appreciated.
You can literally close your eyes and picture this because you’re very descriptive in your stories, all of your stories. Thank you for your service as well sir
It is true. Not only that but he knows exactly what is going on in the mind of the victim in his or hers final mortal moments. It is truly amazing that he is able to know such things.
Never would I have thought I could sit through and listen to someone just tell a story for more than 8 minutes. Here I am at tears listening to this. This guy has a special way of yelling stories!
He tells these stories the way he does in order to provide enough environmental description and character development that you can understand, relate and care. It's an art form, because when people cannot do this they fail as authors, writers, film and TV directors, etc.
I’ve flown many, many times in my life and this story resonates so deeply with me. One flight, on Southwest Airlines, oddly, there was some turbulence that I’ve never experienced before. I’ve done 3 tours in Iraq and that one flight scared me more than anything I encountered while down range. John, thank you for your sacrifice and your time with the teams. I served with some of your fellow SeALs from other teams and to this day, I’ll still cover your six.
Us former Service Members are always here to support our Brothers!!! Just cause we are no longer in the service don’t mean we won’t come together to keep Evil at bay!! In Combat, u feel a small bit of control! When your in a plane, u feel no control what so ever. That’s the definition of terrifying
This story is an odd mix of wholesome and tragic at the same time. There's something to be said about this plane full of people just being absolutely silent while they tried to bring Jennifer back. Something about a tragedy in your midst snaps you into the present and makes you take stock of what is truly important.
@@McSnezzly Is that the plane that crashed into the field in Pennsylvania? If it was those people went down heroes. I hope they knew that before it ended.
I can’t imagine what that poor teen girl went through also, no one is really speaking on her part of what happened. I’m sure she was extremely traumatized as well. Holly saved her life for sure! And those 2 men who volunteered to get Jennifer out of the window, absolutely heroes! So sad they couldn’t save her.
Considering the social anxiety and resulting lack of connection using your phone as a shield demonstrates, I'm going to guess not well. Maybe she understands now it's only capable of protecting her from conversation and has laid it down to rest more often. No one likes the awkward exchanges inherent in herding through the cattle gates. Except ignoring each other's existence is more damaging than assessing it.
Imagine seeing a comment about a teenager living through a horrifically traumatic experience that will likely affect her for the rest of her life, and deciding to reply "WeLl MaYbE sHe ShOuLdNt HaVe BeEn On HeR pHoNe". And because of what, a passing comment that she _was_ on her phone when something happened that was completely out of her control?? News flash; most people, _especially_ young people, aren't going to try making conversation with complete strangers on an airplane! If you were capable of pulling your head out of your rear end for five seconds, maybe you would understand how incredibly insensitive you're being. I'd call you people clowns, but clowns are at least kind to children, you absolute inbred gargoyles.
Strangers placing hands on Jennifer’s back so she knew she was not alone…. Kindness of the most sweetest people! Comforting the only way they could- so brilliant. 💕💕💕
This whole story is comforting to me, not to be morbid. I’m a loyal Southwest Airlines customer, but Final Destination scarred me for life before I ever flew anywhere. What I read about this incident gave me the impression the window cracked and broke and flew inward, cutting Jennifer who tragically died of blood loss. I don’t understand the physics of vacuums, apparently. I’ve been on many flights where the acrylic window panels have cracks that appear to worsen or even make a loud crack sound in flight. Luckily I’ve never been on a flight that had an engine blow out, and i am glad that’s what it took to really break a window. I hope I don’t sound completely horrible for saying this. 🤷🏻♀️ I’ve always been an aisle sitter at the front of the plane. It’s due to the of ease of deplaning, but now It seems like an extra good idea. Southwest is still my go to for their pretty stellar safety record even though I feel sorry for what happened to Jennifer.
That poor lady. I'm obsessed with plane emergency/disaster stories, and if there's one thing I've taken away from all those events is always keep your seatbelt on when sitting in your seat, even when the pilot turns off the sign. That simple precaution saves a shocking number of lives.
Agreed. Seat belt on and BRACE BRACE BRACE. I watch Mentour Pilot and 74 Gear with Pilot Kelsey as well as all the Mayday episodes and I swear I am more confident about flying having done so. I am a fearful flier but seeing how extraordinarily rare airplane accidents are, and how many things must go wrong for fatalities to occur, my fear has lessened considerably.
Exactly. Most of the time we take it lightly and dont even listen to air hostess instructions and think we have seen that demonstration dozen times and blah blah.
A couple weeks after the incident I had the opportunity to have dinner with Tammy JO and Darrell the copilot. The true miracle was how they were able to land and saved all the souls on board. This will be with them forever. To this day they pray for the family. Both of them are good people. Bless you Holly for giving comfort in a horrific situation.
She didn't want to bother anyone so she switched seats which ended up saving her life. Her premonition of something bad was going to happen made me think of all the times I had a bad feeling about something and chose to do something else. That's why I always listen to my inner feelings, you never know what could happen.
Well. One need to find a balance. Because, one CAN get a little paranoid, thinking everything is a sign from the gut. I mean, i know someone who is very into " listening to gut" . She is way over top, and it get stressful. She have gotten selfabsorbed and blunt ,and forget to take any other considerations ,at all. The "gut feeling"/ instinct is important, but always have a balance . Hi from Norway 🇧🇻
My mother is friends with Hollie. We both know Hollie personally and I was friends with her children when I was young. Hollie, to this day, still suffers from the trauma about this event. I remember her telling this story and her bravery and kindness was and still is unforgettable to me. This all shows that Jennifer's death had a profound impact on not just Hollie, but those who knew her. RIP, Jennifer, and stay strong, Hollie
Just shows you never know when it's going to be your turn to die. I can guarantee Jennifer had absolutely *no* *idea* she was going to die that day. I keep remembering that interview with the Fast & Furious guy someone did as he was checking in to fly to that car race where he died...not a clue he was going to die the next day.
Theres a similar story to this about Captain Tim Lancaster where he was sucked out of the airplane but his crew mate caught his legs thinking he was dead and wanted to keep his body to bury but miraculously he survived!
There is just something about the delivery of these stories that makes you feel like you were there, experiencing these emotions. And that, above all else, is what I love about this channel and the reason I tell all my friends and even strangers about this channel. Love your work. Love discussing your work with friends, strangers, and viewers. Thank you Mr Ballen for giving me something to look forward to every week!
There is a video out there somewhere of him telling his kids a bedtime story. I think its on IG or maybe on YT shorts but either way he is stellar at it.
So coffee saved Holly’s life. An autobiography of Earnest K Gann, a veteran pilot and novelist, devotes the entire book “ Fate is the Hunter” to the myriad of events in his flying career describing his being saved by seemingly insignificant happenings. A great book to read, even by those having no interest in aviation.
No her compassion saved her life. Because she could have just said well screw them they will just have to stay uncomfortable as I push by them I want this seat! But she sacrificed the window seat in her compassion and so she was spared. That is why. The coffee was just another stub your toe and miss a killer on the street fated moment. But it was not the reason. If she had been selfish and taken the window seat she would have died even though she had drank the coffee. The coffee did not save her. Her compassion and kindness saved her. I will be bound that this is exactly the case. It happens all the time.
I think it was the length of her shower that morning that saved her. Or maybe the outfit she decided to put on. Or any of the other billions of factors. We just don’t pick our time.
I’m middle aged, and the first time in my life that I’ve ever gotten chills from hearing something was when Hollie put her hand on Jennifer’s back. Sometimes humans are a disappointment, and after watching your videos it’s clear we can be monsters, but sometimes ordinary people can be extraordinarily wonderful.
Disappointments indeed. Expect nothing better out of them; prepare yourself to know that you might be the only one who is capable, for miles. Life is less complicated that way, and at least the people that surprise you will be the 'awesome' ones that help you win these disturbances in life.
Catching up on all your videos and just came to express the sadness of what happened. Also wanted to point out that the captain of that flight was one of the first female fighter pilots in the Navy and she did an incredible job to land that plane safely basically without an engine and prevented further fatalities. She went on to write a book called “Nerves of steel” by Tammie Jo Shultz if anyone is interested. And even though she’s retired from SWA, she still flies jets for a charity called Angel flights where they transport people in need of distant medical treatment.
This one really touched me. So kind of her to show sympathy and comfort in the face of terror. Impressive these people worked together to care for each other. 💕💕💕🙏🙏🙏🙏 Praying for you all.

Hollie avoided dying there by being a good person, putting the comfort of others before her own and sitting in the aisle seat, when she knew she'll need to use the bathroom a lot. It's just terrible that this happened and someone had to be hit by it.
This is such a weird thing to say. . . She didn't avoid dying by being a "good person". Saying so implies that maybe if the victim was a good enough of a person, she would be okay. And who's to say she's not?
Many years ago a friend of my told me about his fathers experience. One day his dad had this excruciating stomachache just before his flight, he left the gate and went to the toilet. Hearing the announce of final boarding, he just couldn't leave the toilet. Finally after he got better, he went to the service counter to get a new flight, but then was told that the flight he missed had just crashed. Sorry for the tremendous loss of all the families out there, but boy he was lucky.
It's so sad for Jennifer to pass that way. Frankly the pilot did an excellent job and it's a miracle that Jennifer wasn't lost completely and no one else was sucked out of the plane. The people who came to help are good souls and deserve the best.

The woman died instantly. If it wasn’t instantly then extremely quickly. Doubt suffering was an issue. Probably blacked out from the blunt force and the vacuum effect!
I agree. She would have almost immediately fainted or blacked out, at the very least. It's surprising that, after the 2 guys were able to pull that poor woman out of that window, that they left it open....would have made more sense if they then put an oversized bag or oversized anything over the broken window to prevent someone else being sucked out and to keep the air inside. Maybe Mr. Badden left that part out of the story.
@@bettywith2girls I would think that anything they tried to place even close to the hole would be sucked out immediately, including the person(s) trying to place anything there. That's why it was so important for the two men who pulled Jennifer back in to quickly get out of the row. A friend of mine was a flight attendant, and they are trained specifically in disaster preparedness, so if there was a protocol for covering the hole, I'm sure that they would have tried to do so.
@@orcasgirl1 Whenever cabin pressure is lost the pilot will immediately begin to drop altitude to get to a level where it is safe to fly without cabin pressure... If it had been 10 minutes they were probably already low enough that there wasn't enough pressure difference to hold her in the window, or to pull someone else out...
The value of what Andrew and Tim did is indescribable. Because of them, she was able to be laid to rest in dignity. Imagine how much more awful it would have been for the family if her body had been left unrecognizable or lost out of the plane. Because of those guys Jennifer’s family were able see her looking like herself one last time.
To be honest at that point it probably didn't make much difference. The body quite simply couldn't fit through the window, and the vast majority of the damage would have been done in the initial minute or so. If you look up the pilot who was sucked partially out of the cockpit window and survived, you'll see that the part of him outside wasn't actually injured much (I think he had some nasty bruising from the edge of the window and controls his lower half were wedged against irrc)
She was left unrecognizable. The last who performed CPR on her said "Imagine hitting the fuselage at 600 mph. There was significant trauma". I'm pretty sure that they had to have a closed casket funeral.
I witnessed a motorcycle accident one day, it was weird because I was getting held up by my buddy that day, and left his place, and went back to where he was minutes later because he needed jumpstarted, then finally went on my way and I took a different route than I normally do, because the light turned red 🤷🏼♂️ so I just went right, and I'm driving up the road when all the sudden there's a biker, and a car in the middle lane, racing, and the biker looks over, loses grip and speed-wobbles making his bike hit the curb, and he literally flew head first into a telephone pole... Right in front of me. It was in front of our local hospital (even more ironic) and a nurse ran up, right after me, telling me to hold his head, and so I'm looking in his eyes, and it's just blank, but his pupils are still dilated to the light, so I just started telling him I was there and he was gonna be good. He lived just long enough that night for his mom to call him and say goodbye to him. I'm still friends with his mom. It still really messes me up. Sometimes all you can do is love.
This one made me cry. Between Hollie holding onto the girl in the seat next to her and holding onto Jennifer, to the 2 men pulling Jennifer back into the plane to the nurse doing cpr... Restores my faith in man kind. Beautiful retelling of this even.
I frequently listen to this channel. And this is the 1st time I teared up. As someone previously said, the way the story was told I can feel myself in the plane with them and I see everything with them. An amazing storyteller. My heart goes out to those 3 ladies that went through this. Jennifer, God-bless you. Holly and the girl I hope you guys are doing well.
Devastating tragedy! I’m a spouse of a southwest pilot and I just wanted to add that although the captain did an excellent job coordinating the emergency and landing the plane, it was actually the First Officer at the flight controls during the incident. The captain was taking charge and on the radio communicating with the ground but the media forgets there are two qualified pilots in the plane. The FO flies from the right seat and they each take turns on each leg of their day. The FO is usually never mentioned and this pilot deserves some credit.
I remember when when this happen. The pilot was a Navy pilot a female pilot with 32 yrs of experience. I heard the recordings from the cockpit and she sounded cool as a cucumber when she talked to the control tower. She said the engine exploded the airplane was rolling to the side but she had gain control and she needed to land the plane. My respects for this woman. She has nerves of steel !
Massive respect to the pilot, she saved hundreds of lives and safely landed a broken plane. Think how terrified she must have been but she kept her composure like a boss ❤️👏👏👏👏👏

I am a volunteer 1st responder here in the UK for the last 7yrs. And I have been too 25 cardiac arrests and so many other things. And sometimes all I can do is hold a hand. If that brings them some comfort them I have done my job. I also will talk to people if there unconscious. When someone dies the hearing is the last thing too go. I do my best, I have sat with the wife of someone that has passed away from a sudden cardiac arrest . They were away for her birthday weekend. So I called her son up and him and his sister were going to drive up to the hotel there mum was inn. So while the police were with her, I went home sorted my dogs out and went and got some tea and coffee and some biscuits, as they were in a hotel that has farm houses. And I stayed with her for 7hrs altogether, I went and met them at the local petrol station. And I taken them to the farm house and when they were hugging each other. I just slipped away and left them alone.ed I have not told anyone I did that, not even the ambulance service. I just logged off call. Like I said all you can do sometimes is just hold a hand.
I went to school with the pilots daughter and met Tammie Jo Shults many times through sports. Hearing this story when it happened was absolutely shocking. The ability she and other passengers had to stay calm despite the situation is absolutely amazing.
@@Justcarlosdiaz oh yes so easy to stay calm when a woman’s dangling out a plane window after one of the engines explodes. Stfu you’d probably shit yourself if you were there.
Captain was Tammie Jo Shults and first officer was Darren Lee Ellisor. The fact that there weren't more fatalities is mostly due to them and their excellent work with the cabin crew. I was at Philly airport at the time and got to witness Tammies incredible emergency landing. If you have her as your captain, you can feel safe.
Rest In Peace to Jennifer, that is just wild. Secondly, for Miss Holly that survivors guilt I know she felt had to have been pure agony. Not to mention that teenage girl in the middle along with that whole flight of people and crew. I applaud everyone, staff, and that pilot for doing what they needed to do. Gosh how awful… I can’t imagine Jennifer’s thoughts as she’s sucked out of a window knowing that’s the end, but had the comfort of hands on her back. I’ll end with this… don’t wait for disaster to extend kindness. 😢💕
There's one more part of this story that I think can highlight how well the passengers and crew worked together once they realized the severity of this emergency. The two men were both EMS qualified fire fighters so they weren't weak. Yet initially they could not pull Jennifer back inside. One of the FAs ran up to the flightdeck and informed the crew they still had not got Jennifer inside. At that point the first officer recommended slowing from 270 knots to 210 knots. This decision was exactly what was needed as the two finally got Jennifer back inside. Before the nurse came up they both actually started performing CPR on Jennifer across the 3 seats her Holly and the girl were sitting in. The nurse recommended moving her to the floor and they all continued taking turns performing CPR even through the emergency landing. RIP Jennifer.
I saw an interview with the 2 men pulling her back in. The man in the cowboy hat got really choked up remembering how impossible it was to pull her back in, even with the 2 of them pulling in tandem. The part about the women placing their hands on her back was rough, and usually nothing gets to me.
This video was one of the First of Mr Ballen’s that I saw, and it made me feel like I was experiencing it all as if I was there myself. Even watching this again and knowing what happens still brings back the memory and the feelings I had watching it for the first time. Hollie, the Captain and those two men are real heroes for what they did to help the situation. The world needs more people like these 💙
This is the first time I've heard this story told in a way that honors the people involved, without sensationalizing it. It's a horrific situation but these people demonstrated the better parts of humanity. Thank you Sir for the respect you've shown ♥️✌🏻
You are an amazing story teller. You went into so much detail I felt I was actually there on the plane. I used to love sitting next to the window but glad I don't fly anymore! This is the most horrifying story hopefully & I'm sure Jennifer was instantly passed out & felt no pain. Healing Prayers to Jennifer's family & friends & all who were affected on the plane especially those who tried to help Jennifer. 😥🙏♥️
Poor Holly most likely has survivor's guilt, and guilt about changing her seat. She did nothing wrong, and is indeed a hero. She held that girl close to her,and tried to save Jennifer. Those brave men also did their best.At least Jennifer's family had her body to bury.Mr Ballen, you are a wonderful story teller, and always have empathy, respect, and understanding.
I wouldn’t if I was holly. It’s just fate. It was always gonna be Jennifer getting sucked out that window. That was deaths design. And you can’t cheat death.

It's so crazy how the smallest choices can mean life or death. Holly could have easily been the victim but changing her mind and sat in the aisle. I think I'll always sit in the aisle.
Really?

Let’s not forget to give props to the pilot who was able to land that plane safely . Holly was so heroic and thank God she saved the young girl . I cried like a baby when you said they touched each other’s backs … such a beautiful thing that occurred in that horrific situation
I cried at the same point. It's the human compassion that we all hope to have and share with others.

Me too, but when you get to the end of his video you realised that she was already dead at that point. Still a lovely thing for them to do.
Unfortunately she probably died instantly…

Thanks. I'd like to read it.
It wasent the coffee. It was her kindness.
Edit: Gods Mercy
Thank you for the info on this book... Downloading right now... Be safe
What?
Catching up on all your videos and just came to express the sadness of what happened. Also wanted to point out that the captain of that flight was one of the first female fighter pilots in the Navy and she did an incredible job to land that plane safely basically without an engine and prevented further fatalities. She went on to write a book called “Nerves of steel” by Tammie Jo Shultz if anyone is interested. And even though she’s retired from SWA, she still flies jets for a charity called Angel flights where they transport people in need of distant medical treatment.
thanks for sharing this added tidbit of info.. 😢

Hollie avoided dying there by being a good person, putting the comfort of others before her own and sitting in the aisle seat, when she knew she'll need to use the bathroom a lot. It's just terrible that this happened and someone had to be hit by it.
@zhehinanimDE that's a stretch. It's also very inconvenient for the person having to climb over other people.
I think Hollie is also an empath since she sensed that something bad was going to happen.
So one who died was not good enough! ? Jesus

This happen to a pilot and he lived.
Man he is a good story teller. Thank you I hate flying. Always have just a little more now
The value of what Andrew and Tim did is indescribable.
That was my mother she was condensed to 3 ft tall.
She was left unrecognizable. The last who performed CPR on her said "Imagine hitting the fuselage at 600 mph. There was significant trauma". I'm pretty sure that they had to have a closed casket funeral.
That's the thing about death none of us know which way we'll pass from this life to the next.
She most likely had a spiritual feeling that her time was done from this life.

@goddoesnotexist5688why bring up the gender?
Excellent point 🎉
FTR, the captain landed the plane after flying it herself the last part of the flight. Her plane, her responsibility.
Teamwork from competent personnel is super crucial in an emergency. As was the case here.
@goddoesnotexist5688who says the FO wasn't a woman, also?
I remember when when this happen. The pilot was a Navy pilot a female pilot with 32 yrs of experience. I heard the recordings from the cockpit and she sounded cool as a cucumber when she talked to the control tower. She said the engine exploded the airplane was rolling to the side but she had gain control and she needed to land the plane. My respects for this woman. She has nerves of steel !

my doctor always said that too much coffee would be unhealthy. I guess he lied to me.
I guess she did not need to pee any longer after the engine got blown off ;)
It wasn’t the coffee but more so her consideration of others. She could’ve totally picked the window seat and just requested those next to her move so she can use the bathroom but she moved seats as not to bother any other passengers by going back and forth
