Sonic Mania brought the hedgehog as they all worshiped it in the 90s, with new phases that demonstrated one of the best designs in any franchise. With Sonic Forces, PS2, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch, SEGA attempts to continue this wave of character acceptance by investing in the 3D style it has been using for its titles. Could the title really amuse and break the infamous "Sonic Cycle" or was it better to just stay with Sonic Mania?

Sonic Forces brings a plot that seems to have come out of the gut of the internet to present a world in ruins, with Sonic arrested for months (and tortured by Dr Eggman / Robotinik), trying to prevent an even greater catastrophe.

At various times, it is impossible not to laugh with some situations that try to pass a seriousness to characters like Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. They are still dubbed in young, playful voices, so when it is said that the hero spent months being tortured, this creates a shock - which is dispelled immediately, as Sonic himself is laughing and making bad (bad) jokes right after.
During the first hours of the game, all this climate causes that shame by the fact that SEGA does not seem to understand correctly what pleases the public that likes Sonic. However, this begins to change because everything is done in such a sincere way that it is impossible not to respect the path that the producers of the game have decided to tread.

One of the best things about Sonic Forces is the chance to create your own character to take part in the adventure alongside Sonic, Tails and his gang. The breeding method is quite simple and I must be honest in talking that quite fun. When you finish each phase, you receive items according to your score. These items can be used to enhance the look of your hero.

In addition, it is possible to equip some items called Wispons, which serve as weapons for your character to use in his unique stages.
Sonic Forces has three distinct levels of levels: one with prominence in its hero, which is a mixture of exploration and combat against enemies; one of the "modern" Sonic, in which you just run frantically; and one of the "classic" Sonic, focused on 2D platform.
The stages with the Sonics are well known to those who could play the good Sonic Generations (Forces is a kind of sequel to it), but the levels with the new character are somewhat strange and confusing. At times, they seem to work, but in others, everything is done in a way to accommodate all sorts of possible heroes, running for virtually none.
And yet the game is fun
Sonic Forces is far from a really good game. He has mixed phases, the story is insane, the tone is absurd, the graphics and commands, though acceptable, are not the best, but even so, it's the kind of game you can call a mess and have fun.
More than once the title has given moments that make you laugh and excite, making your faults - which are not few - end up being left aside for fun. There is something about him that awakens a pure feeling in hedgehog fans. Maybe it's nostalgia or something, but Sonic Forces, even though it's not a good game, can not be bad either.

Sonic Forces has a lot of problems, mostly in its tone and controls, but it's the kind of game that can still be fun. If you are a fan of the SEGA mascot and enjoy the Sonic Boom animation, you will enjoy the new title. If you want a really good Sonic game, 2017 has already brought us Sonic Mania.
