Alpine A110 in dirt rally 2.0 is my favorite car in any sim rally game because its got like no power, its light, and you can either drive it really fast or really slow, no in between

People seem to forget that irl drivers start in the slow classes, sharpen and train their skills and then go into the faster classes afterwards. Most people just want to jump into the fastest class and try to drive like the pros only to crash into everything.

Same reason that most flight-simmers will jump into a 747 before trying anything else, then moan about why its so hard to fly it ;)

That's something I've been preaching for more than 25 years, now, since the golden days of the first GT on PS1... There was a time when I made a name as a tuner on various games in some small french gaming communities, and my point was this, that you don't need a big powerful car to have fun and, depending on the track or the special, smaller more modest cars will be the pinnacle of entertainment. The problem nowadays being, even game studios push in the wrong direction a lot of times: on FM8, we had to wait until this month special event to have "small" fun cars to go with, instead of insipid super and hypercars... It's great to see some people from the actual generation getting to it too 😊

Dude. I was writing this massive message about how I really agree with what you’re saying and UA-cam crashed!
I’ll go again. I realised I never learnt how to properly drive, because I only drove high hp cars on no hesi or drift cars.
I went and grabbed the 54hp Daihatsu Mira mod for assetto Corsa and challenged family members to a touge sprint for the best time.
The mod is seriously cool and taught me many things. It also sounds good and feels great.
I’d highly recommend checking it out, it’s easily become one of my favourite cars.
    3 Cylinders are something else😂
Learning all drive types will really help with not only your driving ability, but also your style, finesse and capabilities with all cars.
Fwd cars can be a lot of fun, and really low power cars are such a great way of re-centering your brain from driving the bigger toys all the time.
They’re not only great for refreshing you’re brain, but I truely believe that they can teach you a lot more in regards to car control and how to react in each situation due to being slower and seeing it happen slower.
It trains you up for when you are pushing the limits and when you are in a lot faster car that is more equipped for it.
Great video dude, keep it up!

My favourite memory from any racing game ever... was in Gran Turismo 2, beating 600hp race tuned cars in... a 176hp Ford Ka.
Because sure they were faster, but I rarely needed to brake for corners and I carried momentum for days.
I always have a penchant for "bad" and "slow" cars.

Extremely well put together video mate. As someone who is a massive rally fan of all games and platforms, this is such an honest and great take. I hold and used to hold many world records on many rally sim games like wrc 10, dirt 2.0, RBR ect, and whilst my usual class A cars, or modern rally1/2 cars are great and a real workout, threes something infinitely more charming and fun about flowing with the roads in small, underpowered vehichles. Instead of sweating it out wrenching the wheel and trying to make micro adjustments whilst full beans is a great experience, these small form factor boxes are just so much more then what they appear.

To me, going for the fastest cars at all times is the trait of children or sweaty people that race in their sims using helmets and gloves.
To me, the most fun level of performance to drive is something around the performance of an EVO X. I like slower cars, i like faster cars, up to a point. i hate hyper cars, then i like race cars again. I'd much rather drive a subaru WRX than a bugatti chiron that is too fast for its handling and braking, completely unbalanced performance. For super cars, the sweet spot is something like mid 90's to early 2000s super cars. My favorite non f50-GT ferrari, for instance, is the f430. Of course, it's always more fun to drive models that were available with manual shifters.

Even for road racing I'd argue, it's sometimes fun to take a break from the madness of LMP1 or F1 cars and try something just a little slower like GT4s or Formula Ford. My personal favourite class of car to race at the moment is GT3 which isn't slow by any means but isn't the fastest out there not featuring any aerodynamic insanity and I had a blast getting into some stuff in between like LMP2 or LMP3s for racing leagues, while I'd say yeah these are fast cars, they aren't the fastest you can get and that makes them tons of fun

Slow cars arent just fun. they are quite useful. 1. They are slower so they are easir to control, and better for newbies. 2. they are letting you know track better before sitting in something more powerful. 3. its investing you to a track, cause if u set pb u work hours on in mini, and realized its a slowest car is making you wonder, how actually fast u can be on that track. Like seriously, taking other car and beating that pb immiditely feels so much better, then beating same pb but with same car. As kid i was rivalizing with my dad, in my beloved Colin McRae Rally 2005, and we were choosing tracks, mini and go for pb... and when we decided we wantr better pb, we just go for faster carsa andthen fun begins, cause we had diffrent ideas which car would be seriously the best. like i was more of a guy to have more horse power under my mask, and my dad was more of balanced guy with a thing for all wheel drive. Thats how i love racing and rally competitions to this day. Im even playing this type of games still, and im almost 26 years old. Damn. Thank You Father for making me interested in racing.

its more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. Lately I got back into sim racing and I love my low powered options, mini being one of my favourites. When I played RBR for the 1st time I chose fiat 126p immidietely (being polish might have influenced my choice a little too).
Other than the really low power cars i tend to look for options around 200 hp, they seem perfect. I cannot utilize the modern age cars in their full potential at all, its just a safety hazard lol. Meanwhile lower powered cars are just fun cause you can push them way more and not end up on a tree (although having 0 skills I still end up a minute before the top guys)

Thank you! Do you mean which game? The Mini was in EA WRC and the fiat was in Richard Burns Rally (RSF mod).

I mean, it's not even remotely sim racing, but during my stint with Forza Horizon I was always drawn to the shittiest cars in the roster. Yeeting a Datsun 510 into a downhill rally stage? Fun! Doing the obligatory "all around the map" race with a 1st generation Golf? Yes please.

Love the Fulvia, though I'm not sure I would consider 80s F1 cars slow, they're pretty monstrous, especially in a straight line!

"they're the best so they're driven by the best" the biggest bullshit going, curtesy of america. the one driving the shitbox fast is the actually best driver, speed is easy, fast is hard.
