As someone who focuses heavy on patterns of play over other areas, how often do you repeat the same drills - ex BOTB. Is it done once a season? How do you keep from just doing the same 6 practuces a season. Especially if youre practicing several days per week
I do it a lot. I likely do almost the same 6 practices with variations for a while. The kids get very familiar with what we’re trying to do. That’s on purpose. When they get older there are many more things I will add. Plus you would get into opponent specific training. So if I how a team likes to press for example we’ll have our defenders do that all week.
Hi Coach, do you use a line (buildout, or midfield) to say not allow them to go back to centerback? I've ran into a few issues lately with the boys going back to centerback too close to the goal, and we all know what can happen then. thoughts?
What age? So at youngest ages I encourage it. Even if we are scored on. I love to see the confidence of a CB to play it back across their own goal. If you discourage it early they will learn not to do it.
Now as team gets older there is a risk/reward thought process and of course you get into much more complicated strategies. Also the level of the team you are playing against, their style, etc comes into play.
But in general I love it when my CBs realize it’s closed moving forward and try to play it back. If we give up goal so be it. As the team develops it will pay off in long run.
@@CoachRorySoccer that makes sense. I coach a U9 town competitive team, so mostly 8 yr olds, a few 7 yr olds playing up. I'll continue to encourage as you described.
Hi coach, on a rec level where you only have 1 hour a week to practice, do you think it makes sense to get this intricate? Ive found it hard to even get them comfortable with quickly getting the ball in play up the line and understanding its ok if we lose the ball higher up the field
Probably not. It’s important to know the level and skill of your team and plan accordingly.
I had a U8 rec league team for 3 seasons and we spent at least 5 min every practice on throw ins. With just that bit of time we were always more prepared than every opponent - good clean throws down the line. They couldn’t handle this, however. U10 though, probably yes if a portion of practice is always dedicated to throw ins.
If you’re looking for an idea for a video I’d like a look at some of the equipment you use. Practice nets, dummies, cones etc.

what salary can football coach for children have?
Totally depends. Do you have UEFA or other licenses? Or past coaching or playing experience? Are you looking for full time/part time. What age group? It’s a big variation but usually it’s hourly pay. Range is big though probably 20-60 per hour depending on all those things above.
When you have a throw-in deep on your end of the field do you ever have your players throw it in to the goalkeeper so that the goalkeeper can pick it up?
I don’t believe that’s allowed. I don’t have them throw it back to the keeper anyway but I think that’s rule 15. Sometimes if team is older I’ll have them throw it to the other Centerback if lots of space is there.
@@CoachRorySoccer I believe this was allowed back in the 90s when I played. Now that I'm coaching my son, I realized it is now not allowed, lol
My son's team does not respect the throw-in... not the mechanics or the situational strategy of them.
Yeah most teams just chuck it down the field as far as possible
