Mike and Tommy have been friends for many years. Mike lived and played in the Santa Cruz area for years before returning to Texas and Tommy was just up the road in South San Francisco ("South City" to those of us in these parts). They were both regulars at the now sadly defunct Santa Crux Blues Festival.
