Seriously, the moment I stepped out into Rauh Ruins I knew that was my new favorite area in the whole game. God damn, that place is pretty. Especially for me, who loves old overgrown ruins.
@@RelativelyBestyeah, we are so used to dark souls sadness, bloodborne scariness or Elden ring post apocalypse that this whole place felt like a breath of fresh air

I think its to fit a particular shape. Like a puzzle. The map fits overlayed. Take i to account the underground and it clicks. Its divinity around a tower "at the center" in a land kf shadow cloaking itself under a veil of darkness and dreadful looking trees.
I think the idea Fromsoft had for The Ancient Ruins of Rauh was for it to be an "open world legacy dungeon". It has every characteristic of every other legacy dungeon you encounter, but it's on the open air with lots of hidden paths and large enough to justify the player being able to trot around using Torrent. To me that makes a bit of sense on why they seem to have struggled to fill in that area, maybe there was no logical connection to it based on what they designed, because the whole thing is accessible, but only the tunnels underneath.
@@Cylle It would be much, much better to recieve ds3 dlc but with 100% consistency in quality, and not that bs where half of the map aint have even common craft materials.

While the south area of the Land of Shadows feels empty, the Ruins were one of my favorites areas of the expansion. The mix of enclosed areas and open design makes for a great change of pace in the game.😊
I hope convergence mod expands into the dlc and they add areas like this to become explorable. I really hope they add like scaffolding to be able to climb up the side of that giant structure at the northern part of the map.
Odd that the areas near the edge of the plateau have fairly precise collision while the further in you go the less accurate it becomes. Could be that the terrain on the outer edge was just copied over from other areas and then the central area was filled in after. Then adjustments were made to the visual layer afterwards with no concern for the collision layer since you were never going to go up there anyway. Probably explains why the collision layer is so much flatter than the visual layer. Still, of all the places you can't go in game, this was up there on my list of places I wanted to be able to get to. A nice commanding view of the ruins would have been nice. You can kinda get one from Enir Ilim but it's a bit too far away for my liking.
I was going crazy a few days ago to reach it but now that I know that there is nothing there gives me kind of a sense of both relief and sadness. Probs they didn’t have time to finish. It would have been a cool boss area.
Glad I'm not the only one who was curious about that area and thought there might be some hidden secret boss there or something ... a bit disappointing that it turned out to be inaccessible by normal means (along with the other area on the other side of the ruins).
Guys....its there to cover the ruins on the map while still looking good from farther away. They never intended for people fo get up there, and its not "unfinished".
Here ,I spent so much time trying to figure out a way to get up to the very top of Ancient Ruins of Rauh (East) only to now realize you can’t normally (or it looks like there is no designed way in game.) That’s disappointing as exploring the unknown of Elden Ring is one of the best parts of the game.
Please can you make a video to showing us what it looks like at the top of the tower, at the arena where we fight Radahn. I mean the place where Radahn is at the beginning of the fight, on those steps, between those two little towers where all the bodies are. You see what I mean, you get into the arena and in the intro you see Radah appear at the top of the steps! I would have liked to go up after the fight, but this is not possible because the stairs were broken by Fromsoft! Please a video!
Ok with the Cliffroad Terminus and Midra's Manse OOB areas I could accept them, but these I just don't understand. Why? Why is there nothing up there and no way to get up there? I understand that there maybe wasn't anything interesting to put there, but that's not necessary. SOTC had plenty of space which you could reach where there was nothing. I'm desperately hoping for a patch that adds a spirit spring that lets you get up there and just wander around, I don't even need anything to be up there. Just let me walk up there, damn it. That central section REALLY looks like there was supposed to be a boss here, maybe a rune bear or dragon or something like that.
@@Boc_theSeamster Because I wanted to help out Bubzia get more views on his Dark Souls blindfolded video, which had way too little views. So I made a community post with a link to his video, and the only comment I got from my community was "Who cares?"
There's so much unused space on the map. You've got the area around jagged peaks, the two finger ruins, the area after Gaius, this whole plateau in the Rauh ruins. I hope they just had their focus set on the next thing since Elden Ring is good, but not perfect. Miyazaki said something like that in an interview. I just think the souls genre doesn't work in a full open world setting, repeated playthroughs on new characters force playing through area's a lot to properly lvl, that or go kill albanorics for a while.
The only thing more frustrating than the rushed development, last-minute changes, unanswered questions, and retcons to what might very well be the final piece of Elden Ring content we get, is the fact that so many people are vehemently defending this DLC’s bad qualities. Even despite all of its flaws, I find SOTE to be incredibly fun and engaging. I still think it suffers from all the issues mentioned above, but I personally like it. There is a lot of room for exploration, I kind of love the “artificial” difficulty, the remembrance bosses are cool (even though they all should’ve had cutscenes) and the new weapons and armor hit the spot for sure. I’m capable of seeing both its negative and positive qualities. Pointing out its negative qualities doesn’t automatically mean I hate the DLC, I just know it could’ve been so much more and my heart aches for what was taken from us. We got a lot, but we didn’t get what we deserved. Most existing lore was either disregarded, retconned, or just made worse. These empty areas absolutely should’ve been accessible and filled with SOMETHING, even reused assets from other areas of the DLC would’ve been preferable to these huge chunks of the map being empty and inaccessible. And there being no ending, despite the cut cutscene of Miquella in one of the trailers, is just a crime. Even a regular, polished, rich ending to the DLC would’ve been nice on its own, a game ending would’ve been above and beyond which is what I’ve come to expect from FS, but this DLC doesn’t seem to go above and beyond in many areas besides difficulty and aesthetics. It’s a shame.
I don't know what you mean by retcons. I don't know much about lore, but from what I've seen on Vaatividya's video, he said a lot of things were answered and he didn't say anything was retconned or contradicted. As for unanswered questions, there have always been unanswered questions at the end of every one of their games, we will never get everything answered, and I think that's by design. I agree that the empty areas should’ve been accessible and filled with at least something. As for ending cutscenes, none of the DLCs in any of their games have had an ending cutscene, so I don't think that's something that should have been expected.
