damnnnn such a dope video! People during corona virus: Oh we need toilet paper! we need Pasta!!! Blake during corona virus: oh god i hope the plant pots dont run out.....
Great video. I have a bunch of tiny ones that I used in my bare bottom tank. I eventually removed them but still use them from time to time on other projects.
Yay. I have 2 5gallon betta tanks and am forever uprooting and knocking plants out of gravel when I do a vac. My poor plants will be much happier not swimming all over the place every week
Instead of pots I use small glass vases that I find at the thrift store. Vases, candy bowls, tea cups. Anything thats clear glass. Will there be problems if theres no holes in the containers?
so... you have planted pots in your aquarium. I understand they are aquatic plants but... how to you build your substrate/soil for the pots? I loved that idea, and want to replicate it.
sure there are a few different ways. you can put some fine filter floss at the bottom to cover the hole then put a small amount of potting soil and cap with gravel or sand. I usually just reuse old aquatic soil in mine.
@@BlakesAquatics yea, I was wondering about that.... I am going to look for some aquatic soil. I want to do this for my axolotls so, Ill need something different aht stones.. maybe just compacted sand.
I have bought some terracotta saucers from Bunnings (they go with the pots) , but they have some sort of waterproofing on them. Will they be safe in my aquariums? I hope you will answer 🙂
i do the same thing with plastic containers with moving plants around from tank to tank and boosting the bactiera within new tanks, great video very inforitive
I'm going to try fluval stratum substrate in a aquarium. I'm going to have multiple terracotta pots containing organic compost and topped with gravel. Crypts will be grown in the pots. On the ground in the fluval stratum I will grow a carpeting plant. The pots will provide surface area for micro-organisms to procreate. I think this setup will ensure my fish fry will have a lot of hiding places and food available to them.
i know i might be late to this video, but i’m considering at least one terracotta pot to use for my new betta that will be arriving in the next few days. the potted aquarium plant idea looks cool, but can anyone recommend me a substrate to use in the pots for the plants? thanks!
I found cleaning my 30gallon aquariums to be to much work especially if planted. I wanted to see if anyone had a similar idea of using potted plants because it would be so easy to lift, clean substrate and place back down! I'm suprised more people arnt doing this because it's just a win imo! Ty for your input! I also plan to use terracotta saucers to hold white sand so it can hold sinking food pellets but also being easy to clean by lifting up, rinsing sand and placing down every other week.
@@BlakesAquatics thanks for the pot tips Blake. I think this is going to make a huge improvement in my 125 which I didn’t want to weigh down with 4+ inches of expensive eco complete. I’ve been struggling to get my plants to grow with a thin substrate. Now there in deep pots with lots of root tabs and I can move them around if needed
Sorry for the camera auto focus acting up during this video. It must have had too many easter chockies 🤷♂️

Yeah i prefer to have flow over the roots, the substrate gets a bit stagnant otherwise

Yeah man, totally agree. Terracotta pots are super useful in the hoppy. Cheap too as you said. No real drawbacks.
Right on
What is that plant you said was your fav but invasive? I need some fast growers for a new large tank

The pots make good homes for beneficial bacteria
absolutely!
I find terracotta pots makes the reds pop on neons and cardinals, etc.
Makes sense why the reds are popping on my emerald rasboras now 👍
Just re-did a large tank using terracotta pots, thanks for the inspiration
POTS POTS POTS Blake's Aquatics has gone completely MAAADDD, great info good points, do you think i should use some pots??? 🤔🤣👍

G’day mate you like pots I see, top 6 here is number 7 you could use a small one to weigh the lid down on big jumping fish lol
Nice tip 👍
Searched terracotta pots in aquariums and your head pops up lol
Thats when you know you made it

How should i sterilize the pot before placing in aquarium?
I just rinse it under water to be honest

I use master soil a fair bit at the moment. Fluval stratum is also nice
Good info, thank you!
😃👍
Glad it was helpful!
Hi , will it help reduce temperature during summer?
I wouldnt think so
Cool idea
Thanks!

CAN YOU PLEASE SUGGEST FEW PLANTS TO BEGIN WITH ? I'M A BEGINNER
Id start with pearlweed, wisteria, ludwigia repens, valisneria. I have guides on care for a lot of plant species though
THANK YOU SO MUCH.
The substrate in pots doesn't come out through the bottom hole?
I put sponge in the hole
