Between Ellensburg and Wenatchee about 6 years ago there was a very large fire. That, coupled with a bark beetle infestation in the area is why there's all those dead trees-either "beetled" or burned. And that washout section happened I think 2 years ago and hasn't been repaired yet. I live near the entrance to the Cashmere-Chelan section and ride the area frequently. Some really nice views up top, but really dry too! That wide spot in the road is pronounced Arden-vwar, means "to see" in French. how they got that, nobody knows. Your creek was the Entiat River; not bad as a trout stream up high. We hunt deer & elk there, up the Mud Creek Road drainage.
Thanks for the detailed comments. You obviously know the trail well. That area with the prior fire/beetle infestation certainly looked other-worldly. It's part of the reason adventure riding is so great. You're going to see things that are really out of the ordinary.
That lake is the Columbia River man. Lake Chalan is not a man made lake either. It's about 55 miles long. You took a short cut or you would have never see the Columbia River just the lake at 25 mile creek. Thats been my play ground for most all my life living on the West side of the Cascades Mountains.
