TheBossGolfs: Punta Espada Golf Club - Best of the Dominican Republic Part I

  • Punta Espada is my favorite golf course from the Dominican Republic trip and also one of the best courses I have played. The course strikes the difficult challenge of being oceanside with jaw-dropping holes and engaging inland holes. Punta Espada utilizes the diverse topography of cliffs, beaches, and lagoons flawlessly while keeping over half of the course along the coast or facing the ocean. One of the most breathtaking features of the course is the crystal blue ocean that frames most of the course, and on windy days you can get misted by the waves crashing next to you. While designed like most resort courses to invite a wide range of golfers of differing skill sets, Punta Espada is not a pushover. The course on windy days will require possible 2-3 club adjustments on holes like No. 2, which is stunningly beautiful, and the first introduction to the ocean. It also requires a problematic risk-reward decision to hit over a tidal lake 220 yards to a small, nearly island green with the Atlantic ocean directly behind it. Punta Espada is not only a must-play in the Dominican Republic; it deserves a spot on every golfer's Bucket List. Punta Espada was designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus and is located in Cap Cana (a short 20-minute drive from the airport).

    Great video! We are planning a trip to the DR for next year and I am looking to either play Punta Esparza or Corales. It depends o. How my driver accuracy is doing by then. I don’t feel like losing a dozen balls and wasting a caddie’s time.

      Play Punta Espada either way. Corales I felt was a tougher course but Espada looks better and has more generous fairways. Overall more fun to play

    I’ll be playing here next week. Was the caddie included or additional fee? What’s the typical tip protocol for caddies at the courses in the DR?

      Sorry I missed this, caddie was not included and you settle up at the end of the round. Treat them like caddies in the states and pay in US Cash.

    Do they have "comfort stations" in the Dominican Republic like they do in Mexico?

      Yes I can't speak for all courses but they did here and Teeth of the Dog. I liked this one more. I don't remember for Corales

      @@thebossgolfs Thank you, did you stay on property?

      No I stayed at a hyatt and took a taxi to the courses. The hyatt was on the side of Punta Espada and Corales so those we 10 and 20 minute drives. I played Teeth and Dye Fore the same day but the drive was just over an hour. I was able to find a better rate and a nice all inclusive I preferred over those resorts. If you play teeth of the dog also play Dye Fore it's very good. Punta Espada was my favorite course actually in my top 5

      @@thebossgolfs i totally agree! I played Corales as well and it was nowhere near the same experience and cost $100 more on top of that!
      Did you play teeth of the dog as well?

    • @thebossgolfs
      @thebossgolfs  2 роки тому +1

      @@Masterdebater14 Yes, I played Teeth and Dye Fore. I like Teeth just behind Punta Espada. I think they are very close in Ocean holes but Espada has better inland holes. Dye Fore is also a great course that can easily be overlooked because it doesn't have ocean holes but it's really an Epic course, that would be considered great anywhere else.
