10-15 years ago, you couldn't have imagined there would be Star Wars shows. People were fine with the movies (i know prequels met with mixed reviews except for Revenge of the Sith). But at least the prequels now look like masterpieces compared to The Acolyte
You know it's bad when Lego hasn't made any sets for the show. They've always made sets for every show or movie that's come out so far. This is the first time there's none.
which is a shame tbh, even though the show isn't good, the character designs actually are, wouldve loved to have the Jedis and the Sith dude, for lego sets there actually was potential but whatever
The toys and other merch going back to the sequel trilogy is gathering dust on thrift store shelves because no one wants any of it. I think it was Hasbro that signed an exclusive deal with Disney Star Wars and they've nearly gone bankrupt for it.
here's a crazy idea for Disney: Write a GOOD, MEANINGFUL story that fits into the Star Wars universe, populate it however you want, as long as it doesn't suck as a story, people will LIKE it. I know...crazy talk.
Calling people racist for not liking the show is devaluing the term "racist". If anything devaluing the negativity around that word is more racist then not enjoying acolyte.

The only jedi who beat Palpatine in a 1v1, palpatine who might be the most powerful sith of all time. Was it ever a problem? I will forever respect Hayden. He took all the criticisms right on the chin and never crapped on the fans. I don’t know if that’s him or excellent media training but he did the right thing.
I disagree with the criticisms in the first place. They said they didn't like how he was awkward and weird and didn't know how to talk to Padme, but in reality that is exactly what Anakin would be like due to being raised the way he was from the age of 10. He has been told to suppress his emotions and have no attachments while also getting no practice talking to girls/women in a romantic way. So of course he's gunna be awkward and weird and I think Hayden did a really good job portraying that. Not to mention the arrogance he displays is spot on, he would have learned that from the jedi order.
I never understood the hate he got anyways. Maybe it's because I watched the prequels as a kid and I look at them through nostalgia colored lenses, but I think he did a great job.
I’m going to hate Leslye no matter what happens. Some people might, but I will never forget that Leslye was the one setting appointments for Harvey with women and she would even lead them to his office. She knew what Harvey was doing and that is enough to make me hate her for life

As a gay Asian male, I also have to add: Calling someone homophobic or transphobic because they don’t like this show due to poor acting, affects, and storytelling is getting really old. It’s NOT phobic. It’s demanding quality and respect of the source material. I am so sick and tired of people who “represent me” shoving themselves down my throat, the majority’s throats, and children’s throats.
I'm not sorry. The way that the actors _and_ the showrunners for this show behaved, they _actually_ *deserve* direct backlash. You don't get to defame millions of people and have ZERO repercussions. 1. "An eye for an eye makes the world blind" If you don't respond to defamation, it sticks. The lie becomes the truth. This is a *_LEGAL_* fact. Respect is earned... Being nice to horrible people (narcissists) , exclusively, empowers them. 2. You can explain your reasons about why the show is bad, WHILE explaining your reasons why the people who made the show are - objectively - terrible people. These are not mutually exclusive.
Ironic…. Given that they are some of the people who say “cancel culture is a myth, it’s just ‘accountability culture’”. Yet accountability culture only applies to everyone else that isn’t them. Rules for ther but not for me!

Fans aren't together and can't be though. That's the problem. People who grew up with the OT mostly hate the prequels, those who grew up with the prequels are divided in dislike towards the Disney era, and there's now a surge of upcoming fans growing up with Disney era media - who are likely not as critical, who percieve a lot of vitriol towards the media (and likely themselves too). People are immature, especially Star Wars fans, and there are way too many to ever be united in the way you're dreaming up. It's just childish.

The problem that they have is that the creative team know that it's bad. They know that it's just a jumbled mess of their own ideologies, insecurities and hang ups. This mean that when people criticise the show they aren't criticising the show, they're criticising the creators. This is why you get the 'it's not made for you'.
Because when these showrunners and producers make something as we've clearly seen with this Show its about "them" and "their" vision. The audience just has to sit down and be quiet. Let the deranged lunatics tell their story because they have the power they've craved for years.

Even though I think it's bad to target the actors in situations like this, you can still see the difference between someone like this woman who played in the Acolyte and Hayden when he got hate during the prequels. One is a spoiled brat dissing the fans like a child and the other is a gentleman who takes it maturely and then comes back decades later when the fans sort of apologise to him by showing him their love. I have huge respect for Hayden, such a nice guy and great actor.
IMO most of the problem with his performance came from Lucas' poor dialogue. This is actually something the actors in the OG trilogy complained about as well.

Sadly, many people I care about started slandering people who didn’t like the show, ABSOLUTELY slandering them, calling them racist and sexists. Many even called you one. I never payed any of them my attention. You are one the of the best when it comes to UA-camrs. Every time someone tries to do something stupid, you try to calm the situation down, and remind people what happened with the prequels. Thanks Theory, for being you, and being the voice of the fans
They do that bc they have nothing left. They’ve nothing to argue. Resorting to ad homs mean you lost the argument. This is why you see t this behavior so often from them. They’re unable to justify their positions beyond denigrating their opponent and hoping they start to feel bad and shameful about their position since it doesn’t fit with their own or with the artificial ‘majority’.
Disney is a morally bankrupt organization ran by corrupt rich business execs I seen this coming since 2014 and its not gonna get any better for star wars as a franchise
I think the saddest thing to have come out of the Acolyte is seeing how many people jump to it's defence branding any criticism of it as being racist, sexist and/or homophobic without realising they're running around crying wolf and imo have done far more damage to the very causes they claim to be defending. Imo the Acolyte failed because it was a very poorly written and executed production that had $180 million thrown at it. Gender, sexuality and skin colour of anyone involved in the production had absolutely nothing to do with The Acolyte being as bad as it is. It was their job to deliver a show that met audiences expectations and didn't make us feel like we've just wasted our time and money watching it and they failed miserably.
Amandla really impressed me. Not many actors can go an entire season making only one facial expression. Plus I really appreciated how this show followed the classic “tell don’t show.” Isn’t that how it goes?
"Have you heard about the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the wise?" "No, I have not" "He showed up in the final moments of The Acolyte and was never seen again"
Good job Theory. This might be one of the most eloquent and understanding critiques you've ever posted. I always walk into SW (Disney SW) with my mind open until the writing--not so much the acting--lets me down. You gave a fair assessment of the fandom's haters and lovers and the need to come to the argument with facts not feelings.
They probably never watch Star Wars before. I bet these people who likes the show are all people who watches something like Hazbin Hotel and loves it to death and would send threats to people who doesn't like it.
There should be a 2nd season of The Acolyte. A one episode season. One long episode for Plagueis to come and wipe them out, all of them. Duel with Darth Rizz and Osha. Slices and dices Qimir, mind probes Osha to death, and eliminates Mae. Then returns to Tenebrous and informs his master that he has dealt with the pretenders, but keeping the secret of Force conception. Always two there are. No more, no less.
Robert Myer Burnett was 100% on point with his tweet. Sad that people believe someone is racist because they don't like this show. As someone who was there 5-25-77 I am saddened at what SW has become..
It's an absolute mess, grew up on the 97 versions, lost all interest after the force awakens and 20 mins in the sequel to that, Luke was a joke ,I was out since
This is absolutely true, I moderate for a UA-camr who produces content for a Star Wars game and when we were talking about the acolyte and people dislike the show because the story line was garbage he said that he didn’t want people to talk about because disliking the show was sexist, racist and transphobic. He also really liked the show. Now everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but objectively this show was a mess and it isn’t inherently racist or sexist or anything like that to dislike a show for the plot being bad. Plot is the whole reason that people like or don’t like a show and if you have a terrible plot don’t be surprised when people don’t like it.
I'll say it again: I hope the original script of The Acolyte gets leaked so we can compare the original plan with the final product and see how much they changed and how much they are directly responsible for how bad it got. Wouldn't be the first awful series to have an actually banger original scenario that got sabotaged by politics and ideologies (and certainly won't be the last).
You do realize that this was written from the ground up by Square Head right? She approached Kennedy with the story and was told "yass Queen go for it!". I quite honestly believe that this is BOTH the original AND final script.
I've seen people saying that the show was held to "impossibly high standards". My answer to this is that the show was not held to high enough standards and much of it should not have made it through editing. Acolyte had big problems with writing, character development, and the overall message of the show, which seemed to be that the dark side characters were the good guys. When Anakin fell in ROTS it was portrayed as a tragedy, a bad thing. When Osha force chokes Sol to death, the showrunners expect us to root for her as if what she did was some sort of triumph. The twins do sociopathic stuff and never have remorse. Even if a character kills someone who deserved it, there should still be remorse because becoming a killer is destructive.
exactly. this show failed basic writing concepts like cause and effect and had character motivations change at the drop of a hat. this show was held to the same standards as every other show.
People who hate on you (SWT) are filled with anger & want to attack anyone who disagree w/ them or their ideology. You've been clear, honest & noncambative about your opinion overall. Well done speaking your opinion. Proud to be a sub. Keep it up!

A 44yo black man’s perspective: Im a long time Star Wars fan. I watched it as a kid back in the ‘80s. Let’s remove all the lore problems and execution problems from the equation. The show was proudly made for feminists and homosexuals. Let us not forget it was labeled “The gayest Star Wars ever”. Obviously, women and gay people did not watch the show that was made for them. Or did they? If they did, then there are obviously not enough feminist and gay Star Wars fans to keep a show profitable. When you consider that most Sci-Fi and fantasy fans are heterosexual males, then it stands to reason that a Star Wars show made for homosexuals and feminists was a bad investment to begin with. Seems simple to me, and I didn’t even have to lose $180M to learn that lesson. I did lose Star Wars tho, and that does hurt, and that is what they wanted, so, I guess they won. Star Wars is dead, and Disney killed it. Congratulations.
I don't consider Lesyle Headland a feminist, lets see, she worked for Harvey Weinstein, so she had to be quiet some things because it was beneficial for her. She did the same stuff of ReyLo, to put a girl having a crush a guy who several chapters ago had murder her friends, one of them who has a crush on her. Its probably that Lesyle follows the ideology that being a woman is just a feeling. Not mention, that she consider that asking George Lucas advices about his OWN universe iwas misognystic. She's just an ambicious and envious woman.
Underrated comment. Don't let it hurt you, though; Star Wars isn't dead. Star Wars was never anything put out by Disney. They just bought an IP nothing more. George Lucas's Star Wars is the only Star Wars and the amount we got was just enough.
This reminds me of TLJ. It was a horrible movie that broke lore and continuity, yet there were still people defending the garbage first draft from Rian Johnson. Probably the most divisive thing produced by Disney since TLJ.
I’m glad you brought up the subject of TLJ and Rian Johnson because it destroys the argument that UA-cam critics were responsible for The Acolyte getting axed. People watch what they want and they like what they like. Sure, if I trust a movie critic I’m more or less likely to watch something based on their opinion, but TLJ has been criticized, mocked, loathed, review bombed etc. non-stop since it was released. Seven years of unwavering hostility from fans, and yet it earned $1.333 billion. People didn’t turn their TV’s off because Theory told them the show sucked, if anything, all these UA-cam guys boosted viewership. Critical Drinker’s analysis was much more entertaining than the actual show. The only reason I watched any of the Acolyte at all, was to have an informed opinion so I could participate in the discussion. The SW fandom is a convenient scapegoat but if you spend $180 million to produce eight, half-hour episodes of one of the biggest franchises in history and you’re getting your ass kicked by season one of Bridgerton , you might want to stop blaming fans and look in the mirror.
Thing is, back then, Johnson had a MILLION twitter-bots running defense for the hack-flick. That's where the illusion of a "divide," came from. People genuinely thought the bots were real people, speaking up for the movie. Years later, the bots are gone and it's rare to find anyone that still buys into the fake narratives. Rotten Tomatoes even froze the audience score in the mid 40s because it was plummeting. If you didn't realize ep8 broke lore and continuity and can't even exist in the same universe, you must have missed the prior 2 trilogies like Johnson. It wasn't "divisive." It was destructive. Everything since has had to work around it, thus poisoning subsequent projects as well. This is the movie that turned Jedi into depressed space mutants with super powers that die if you use them too much. Johnson had zero idea that Jedi(Djed-eye) were allegories for enlightened beings and he mixed up the light and dark side and the idea that Jedi were masters of themselves was entirely lost on him. I'm still laughing that Rey was at master-level because she was just part of a bloodline when the entire point Johnson was trying to make was that anyone could be a jedi and you didn't have to be part of a "bloodline." What's worse is that point is made clear in the original movies and Johnson just didn't understand. ./facepalm Ya, that defense force has left or never existed. It was a million twitter bots and Disney media was supplementing the bots with similar talking points. The whole IDEA of a "divide" was to imply that at least half of the fandom enjoyed it. Nope.

Those twitter people threatening others seem like the same people who flipped out about their fantasy “shipping” characters not working out in the Sequel trilogy. They are definitely dangerous and people should be careful dealing with them.
This show should have been an easy amazing banger. Fun fact: almost no fans were attacking Hayden, and Jake and Ahmed. It was mostly professional critics and TV talking heads. We kids loved Jar Jar and little Ani. And when we got older we wanted to be Hayden's Anakin. I legit grew his Episode III hair around 2005, because I thought he was cool.
Well, speak for yourself re: Jar Jar. I was 13 when Ep. I hit theaters and I went to see it 4x. Loved all the prequels, even with a few cringey moments. Hayden and Natalie were terrific together. They need to get her back for a flashback or something in a future show.
Actually, that's not really true. The critics ARE largely to blame, but what really happened is that the critics HURT the most. They caused the most blows. But while Hayden, Jake, and Ahmed, (Especially Jake, as he wasn't allowed on the internet) didn't receive much of the backlash and hate, you can't deny that it WAS THERE. It was unfair, but it was there. Now, it's just easier to see because of modern social media
No one asked for this lore-skewering bull of a show. No one, except maybe it’s desperate fans who wished to have the lore twisted and disrespected bc they never liked SW or George Lucas in the first place.
Because the 'modern audience' doesn’t exist. Besides, we know that the reason they make these bad shows is because they’re paid to deliberately make them terrible by companies such as black rock.

And now everyone loves him, with millions of fans fangirl-cheering when he dueled Ahsoka last year. How the turn tables 😂👌🏼🌟...

As a gay Asian male, I also have to add:
Calling someone homophobic or transphobic because they don’t like this show due to poor acting, affects, and storytelling is getting really old.
It’s NOT phobic. It’s demanding quality and respect of the source material. I am so sick and tired of people who “represent me” shoving themselves down my throat, the majority’s throats, and children’s throats.

Im an older fan like you, star wars fandom hasn't changed much. It's similar to how it was back in 1983, 1999, 2002, 2005, 2015, 2017, 2019, etc
@@charlesjohnson7458the fandom is identical to how it's always been
I'll say it again: I hope the original script of The Acolyte gets leaked so we can compare the original plan with the final product and see how much they changed and how much they are directly responsible for how bad it got.

It also literally wasn't. After Boba Fett and Kenobi, the bar was unbelievably low for what a Star Wars show could be, and they still flunked it
exactly. this show failed basic writing concepts like cause and effect and had character motivations change at the drop of a hat. this show was held to the same standards as every other show.
People who hate on you (SWT) are filled with anger & want to attack anyone who disagree w/ them or their ideology. You've been clear, honest & noncambative about your opinion overall. Well done speaking your opinion. Proud to be a sub. Keep it up!
The rap video was just wild. Imagine if Hayden Christensen in 2002 made a godawful song and music video singing and dancing to song that was calling people who didnt like the prequels bigoted. Absolutely crazy 😂
I say this as an LGBTQ person, none of the critcism of Star Wars is based on homophobia or any bigotry for that matter. Its disrespectful to us, to the fandom as a whole, and to art itself to deflect ALL criticism in such a way.
the entire show was made solely to gaslight fans who arent radical leftists. the subsequent "fallout" is just more gaslighting from radical leftists.
They dont care about culture. its merely a tool for them to indoctinate. this is how it has been over and over again in history. its not new. just look at who made it and who they are.
Literally using victimization as a shield, I always considered this bizarre. Sometimes a trend goes too far, social media enhances the ugliness
I know it’s a free country and all but my first thought was I couldn’t believe she was allowed to upload that. Usually people in large rolls have some restrictions on what they can say about things related to it I assumed.
You can be gay without being a cult member
@@jimmythedrum446 but according to the cult if you're gay you can only see yourself in a character if also gay. What does that tell you about those cult members?
"...catering to incels..."
I'm sorry...what? When did it become commonplace for people to refer to those who don't share their opinions as being involuntarily celibate? Why does EVERYTHING have to be sexual with these people? What does celibacy even have to do with not liking a shitty TV show? 🤦♂️
Cos their whole personalty or lack thereof is their perverted sense of sexuality and sexual preference, masked behind socio political agendas pitched by others of the same perversions
Woke agenda🎉
Incel is the new short-hand for what basement-dweller was. The concept is an aging male continuing to live with their mother, as they are incapable of living as an adult on their own. The slight twist is incel is more towards the notion of the social inadequacy of such a hypothetical person. Regardless, it's meant more as a generic insult of a particular demographic than connected to involuntary celibacy.
It's much like woke has had some significant drift from it's original meaning more towards a slur.

it is kind of ironic..
Star Wars is so personal for so many people. So when their favourite shows get cancelled and criticised they all go into defence mode and try to find reasons why it would be cancelled. Some people just can’t accept that the majority of Star Wars fans don’t like this kind of content.
Acolyte is not Star Wars. Take that ish away.
They don't even really love it that much. Look at the comments when a new episode would be released. No one praised the story telling or the acting or the plot, they praised that it would piss off traditional Star Wars fans. They treated it like so much of politics nowadays. It's not about doing good. It's about pissing off the other side who they hate.
@@robertdouth8979 these are h 8 and spite filled people we're dealing with. You are one of the most genuine and reasoned critics I see on UA-cam. I really appreciate a calm and respectful commentator.
I’m not fond of elements of the show, but was not as horrified by it as some. It’s not as bad as She-Hulk. Which isn’t saying much.
Like most arguments there are awful people on both sides, being verbally abusive.
Disney cares about profit as you say. Unfortunately they aren’t getting decent writers in. It’s a shame, because some of the content has been good.
Actors are only as good as the material (usually).
Should’ve made it a good series then
It's that simple.
No. The message was all that mattered. The control. Urinating on our minds. The money was secondary. Look at them insulting us afterwards. They are filled with hate, calling us hateful.

I never really understand the "going in a fresh, new direction" crowd. If you would like to go in a fresh, new direction more power to you. Write a fresh, new story and go in whatever direction you want it to go. But if you take a series where the fans actually like the direction it is going already, don't expect them to be happy about picking a new one.
Same mentality when new ownership buys a successful business and makes huge changes, then doesn't understand why it fails.
I worked for a guy that had a very successful sushi bar, the only place to get fresh made sushi for at least 60 miles. This goon decides he wants to switch to Mediterranean. I let my opinion be known that I thought it was an awful idea, he asked me what I knew about running a business and I left it at that. A decade later the place has been closed for the better part of 8 years and the owner is now a schoolteacher, meanwhile I'm a successful contractor. The irony is delicious.
STAR WARS DIED FOR ME WHEN LUCAS SOLD OUT, I WAS 9 WHEN THE FIRST STAR WARS CAME OUT IN THE SEVENTIES, WE STOOD IN A LINE THAT WRAPPED AROUND THE THEATER, GREAT TIMES BUT NO MORE, STAR WARS IS DONE FOR ME
Being an avid SWTOR player they’d be better off going Old Republic and using Malgus and fall of Jedi Temple than the crappiness that is Acolyte…
They would probably just make malgus a black trans homosexually
Or they would make up random new diverse protagonists to steal the show and completely ignore the source material
I don't want Disney to touch the KOTOR era. We all know they wouldn't do it justice.
You shut your mouth! I don't want Disney anywhere near the old Republic
I hope Disney never touches Old Republic stuff
Andor is the absolute best written show done by Disney era Star Wars right now. Everyone needs to model their shows to that level of writing.
Agreed. Andor was fantastic, and I think it has something to do with having no Jedi or laser swords. Just good writing and good storytelling in a Star Wars setting. Rogue One was pretty good too, and gave us Vader’s best scene
The irony of that is Andor isn’t even Star Wars.
Andor was boring as hell for the first 3 episodes but after that it gets extremely good, but my god those initial episodes were a chore.
It's so sad that your actually right😂😂😂
@AnoneemusNoenameI would love that, but in reality, Star Wars is still run by the same people who brought us the current back of trash shows and movies that are out there. We can expect for Cassian to inexplicably become a complete idiot and need to be saved and ordered around by some strong female character by the name of Mary Sue

Dude, your channel is pretty much singlehandedly reminding me what is good about star wars. Because disney is trying their hardest to make me hate it.
My thing is fandom should have been up in arms like this after "The Force Awakens". It's a lil too late when everything has been burned to the ground.

Ignorant biased comment revealing who you are … I’m gay and thought the Acolyte was crap
Very well said!
100% you nailed it perfect
This reminds me of TLJ. It was a horrible movie that broke lore and continuity, yet there were still people defending the garbage first draft from Rian Johnson. Probably the most divisive thing produced by Disney since TLJ.
It also made 700 million dollars less than TFA
I'm still laughing that Rey was at master-level because she was just part of a bloodline when the entire point Johnson was trying to make was that anyone could be a jedi and you didn't have to be part of a "bloodline." What's worse is that point is made clear in the original movies and Johnson just didn't understand. ./facepalm
Ya, that defense force has left or never existed. It was a million twitter bots and Disney media was supplementing the bots with similar talking points. The whole IDEA of a "divide" was to imply that at least half of the fandom enjoyed it. Nope.
@@MysticTrollin TLJ's defense, we have no idea how much of that drop is TFA's fault. Rise of Skywalker sucked so much that it's even harder to know how much TLJ messed with it's box office.

But while Hayden, Jake, and Ahmed, (Especially Jake, as he wasn't allowed on the internet) didn't receive much of the backlash and hate, you can't deny that it WAS THERE. It was unfair, but it was there.
