The Last Drop | Summer Wine Decanted

- This is the final episode in my “Summer Wine Decanted” series, so I’ve come back to Holmfirth for one last time. I'm on my way to The Wrinkled Stocking Tearoom to meet someone who has been a fan of the show for forty years, appeared as an extra, and has helped with my research: Terry Bartlam. We will also reveal some of what went in to making this series of videos, and some of what was cut out!
Special thanks to Dennis and Jackie Fussell at The Wrinkled Stocking Tearoom, and my guest Terry Bartlam.
The BBC TV sitcom “Last of the Summer Wine” was the longest-running comedy programme in Britain, and the longest running situation comedy in the world. The year 2023 marks 50 years since the pilot and first series were broadcast.

The "Summer Wine Decanted" book is available on Amazon: www.amazon.co.... and many online book sellers - and now from the Wrinkled Stocking Tearoom, Holmfirth.

Thanks also to the following people who approached us while out filming, or for helping with snippets of information:
The householder near the Toss O’ Coin Pub.
The farmer in his van that stopped to talk to me in Acres Lane.
The man walking a dog on Old Mount Road, Marsden.
The person house-sitting one of the homes opposite the Monkey Inn.
The man in Holmbridge that had lived there all his life.
The ladies at All Saints’ Church, Clayton West, Huddersfield.
Bonus Video: We spent about 30 days over a period of ten months in 2022 and 2023 filming for the “Summer Wine Decanted” series. It did not always go to plan. Here are some of the technical failures, fluffs and - as Dennis Norden would say - “cock-ups”… These are not the only out-takes, often what goes wrong is not captured by the camera!

Really enjoyed these. Thank you.
Thank you Peter!
Hello, from Trinidad 🇹🇹
That’s nice ❤
What a lovely chat you had with Terry Bartlam, for whom I yield to no one in my respect and admiration for all that he has done and continues to do for the LOTSW community. As a Canadian, I first discovered the series in the early oughties - having randomly alighted on an episode airing on a PBS satellite channel - and it’s been a treasured and much beloved companion ever since the DVDs appeared. I’m very much looking forward to the outtakes video and getting a glimpse of your titanic battle of wills with the elements, your technological equipment, etc which you were (thankfully!) able to fight your way though to create this wonderful documentary. Many thanks!
Thank you PJ. Pleased you enjoyed our chat. It was especially useful having Terry to help with research, as he was present at a lot of the filming locations, he knows things that you could only discover by being there!
Sad to hear that this is the last video I've enjoyed watching them and learning more about the series, Thank you for your hard work it's greatly appreciated.
Glad you like them, John!
Looking forward to this, thank you!
Thanks for the series great information and taken the time to put it together. Look forward to see other things you might do, cheers
Thank you Peter! There is another *extra* Summer Wine Decanted video to come! There are a couple of scripts ready for filming, and many more ideas.
@@upstagedbyadog great. All the best to you
Many thanks for this series, from Middletown, Pennsylvania, USA...!! 😃
Thanks for watching, Dr!
Thankyou for all your work in keeping this wonderful series alive, it has been as enjoyable to watch as the serial itself 🤗👍
Glad you enjoyed it, David!
I watched the pilot episode when I was 7 years old, I was hooked straight away.
If you saw the original broadcast of the pilot, you were allowed up to 8pm at age 7! ... and you were hooked on three old men just talking!
This series has been great. I have enjoyed Last of the Summer Wine since I first came across it in Canada in the 1990s.
Glad you enjoy it!
I have thoroughly enjoyed your videos and the wonderful information you gave was brilliant. Thank you so much for sharing this super program. God bless!
You are so welcome, Anna! Thank you.
I never missed a programe
Hi Steven! ... don't forget every episode is available on several tv streaming services, too!

Hello from Germany 🇩🇪🇬🇧🫶🏼
Looking forward to 'Keeping Up Appearances'
Keeping Up Appearances is possible, not yet decided!
I’ve enjoyed watching your videos.
Thank you, Simon!
This was originally a UA-cam Premiere on Sunday 29 October 2023. The chat replay is saved, so you can read the messages from the Premiere. Unfortunately, UA-cam messed up the first minute or so of the video. You can use “Super Thanks” to add a highlighted comment and contribute the cost of making the video series.
Just out of pure interest, do you think that Sarah Thompson and Mike Grady will do a show based on Barry and Glenda?
@@paulinejhill6942 If they couldn't get them to make an appearance for the 50th event then I'd say highly unlikely.
I think it is unlikely - especially after such a long break, and who would write it?
Roy Clarke?
@@paulinejhill6942 Sadly he is too infirm to write, or possibly even remember his characters.
Brilliant Leigh, 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏, your hard work has not gone unappreciated, thank you from thy bottom of ones heart 👍👍👍👍, cheers from new🥝🥝🥝zealand, and thy bloopers have made my evening 😁😁😁😁 cheers all summer winos🍻🍻🍻
Thank you so much, Gunner! I have watched the Bloopers video many time, and even I think it's funny!

Thanks for all your hard work, I’m sure it’s not the end🤦♂️
Thanks Bill... (keep watching !!)
I am so appreciative of all your hard work. Listening to all your behind the scenes gossip, tickles me. Oh my goodness. It's just so enjoyable to listen to the two of you. Thanks ever so much. Like someone said in a previous comment, it's far from being over. ❤❤❤😊😊😊
Thank you so much, Alex!
Thank you for all these wonderful videos❤ This series is probably my most favorite of all time. This Okie loves her Britcoms❤❤❤😊
Thank you Karen, much appreciated!
Really sorry to see this series finish. I have enjoyed every moment. Looking forward to seeing what you do next.
Glad you enjoyed it, Stefan! We have a lot of ideas, nothing decided, yet...
Me too. And we will watching it again and again 😊
Thank you ever so much for all of your hard work on this beautiful series about Last Of The Summer Wine. Please do more with some of the cast members, or extras or the stunt and props crew etc., who are still with us.
Thank you Eve. Sadly, as I think I mentioned in "The Last Drop", most performers are only contactable via their agents, whose details are not usually available to the public. You need to be a "film / tv industry" person for access. the agents I contacted did not reply. I know some people have social media accounts, but they often do not allow or do not respond to online messages. Also; as performers, they are likely to need to be paid and have a contract, I don't have the resources to pay!
Very enjoyable video 👍
Thanks, Onyx, pleased you enjoyed it!
Leigh this has been a truly epic effort 👌👌for us fans ...now hopefully set in utube stone like the tv series for us to view in the future 12/10 for this .....best wishes for the future👏👏👏👏
Thank you Carol and Dave... don't forget the out-takes video!
Well Done ! Thank you sir !
Thank you, David!
When I say Well Done, I am hiding my sadness that this wonderful series is over. Please reconsider, from USA. @@upstagedbyadog
