While I agree 100% about all three guitarists, let's not forget the amazing musicians that provide such a marvelous canvas for these artists to paint on. Oteil is a great bass player. He draws a line directly from Berry and extends it far beyond most bass players out there today, especially in the ABB setting. Butch Trucks is a monster on the kit. He's one of the very few drummers that listens as well as he plays. I'm sure some of you will give me grief for this, but so many drummers only listen to themselves in a band setting. Now I'm not saying ALL drummers. There are great drummers here and gone, like Neil Peart, John Bonham, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Gadd, Keith Carlock, and Carl Palmer. But very, very few listened and had the ability to enhance the lead guitar players like Butch did. RIP, Butch.
It just dawned on me- I'd forgotten that I saw John Scofield at the Fox Theater in Oakland. He was a guest there also, but I can't yet remember who it was. Just like here- mind bendingly amazing! 🎉 🕉
Though they are totally different styles, John Scofield and Derek Trucks are my two favorite living guitarists - amazing to see them together on this. Sco is a giant amongst giants.
Personal favorite experience : Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer backing up Fleetwood Mac. I appeared on TV nearly drooling as I closely observed the dual queens in action.
Je n'avais jamais vu cette vidéo... Mon dimanche gris devient d'un coup radieux, j'aime tout le monde sur cette scène, Scofield avec le ABB mais c'est ce qu'il y a de plus énorme pour moi.
Derek absolutely 💯 % lit the stage on fire 🔥 wow, good lord- That was incredible 👏 ! Now, who's next? Oh....Scofield madness. Cool juxtaposition to the Allmans.
Awesome, totally awesome, CHILLS!!!! I was at this Beacon Show, Center Orchestra Row F, so got the FULL SOUND of The Stage & Music swirling around & above me!!! Didn't really know who Jon Scofield was when he came out, but after the FIRE coming from his guitar, it was clear this Liz Reed, even though no Dickey, was gonna be special!!! My brother was at this show sitting in seats behind me in Orchestra Right, amongst other friends scattered around The Beacon, and we were all mesmerized by this version that night!!! I attended multiple ABB Shows at The Beacon every year since they played at The Beacon and because of Scofield and this ripping Liz Reed, is 1 of my most memorable!!! Thanks for posting!!! Feel like I'm sitting there all over again!!! PLAY ALL NIGHT!!!
What a great comment, you're lucky to have experienced that in the house. I love hearing from people who were at concerts and share their experience. It's part of preserving musical history. Thanks so much and glad you enjoyed the video too.

Scofield’s LP “A Go Go” is a masterclass in dynamics! Herring was my instructor @ AIM YEARS ago(88-89). A more patient (lol) soft spoken man you’ll never find! 🙏
Incredible Jam. Duane is smiling down ❤️ cool to see several of the original members in this Decade + performance. Every musician was in the pocket🇺🇸 no doubt Scofield’ tastefully played with a Horn like tone to offset the other two. It made it more complex.
This was surely a top moment from all of the Allmans Beacon shows ive seen over the years. Around 12:47 I am pretty sure the whole venue lifted off the ground. John leads you down a real tense path that throws direction and flow to the wind, only to set you up to be assaulted a moment later. Got to say hello to John on the street afterwards. Nothing like those Beacon shows...
ButchTrucks' flam tap rim shot propulsive syncopation and Otheil's bass bomb pulse is rocket fuel feeding the band. Derek, Sco, and Gregg are lifted into the stratosphere of the greatest blues performances. The strong jazz element is absolutely essential for blues to move beyond feeling and into the power of higher soul, and this is it.

it is really a testament of these times that such a video of this musical quality gets 29000 views and i see some Taylor Swift concert getting 3,3 million views...ugh...i know each have our own tastes but watching such muscians and then you see a glamour concert that for sure nobody in 30 years will ever want to see this...and the Allman Bros will keep on well into their 70's maybe 80's who knows...but they will stack theaters but not arena's like the present masses go to...man in my time we went to Woodstock...but those were the better days..tks for the upload
Search for Scofield, Jaco Pastorious, and Kenwood Dennard jamming our The Chicken. They did a whole video series of some sick playing, as only those 3 could.

SCOFIELD'S TONE: A few folks have ragged on Scofiled's tone. Personally I think it fits his playing. Listen closely to about 30 seconds of this, and look at Warren and Derek's facial expression -- says it all: 11:28
Can't argue with you, but there are a couple of non-Fillmore versions from Duane and Dicky that are off the charts, but the recording quality wasn't Tom Dowd level.

Damn, got enough Drummers and Guitarists? WTF?
Moogis 🙌 thank you Butch 🙏❤️
John Scofield keeps sounding fresh after so many years. Great to see such a great ‘jazz-man’ playing with ABB
Thanks , I agree!!
He also played with Phil Lesh and Friends in '06. Awesome to hear him rip on some Dead songs too.
I've seen the ABB over a dozen times.. I'd kill to see them just one more time. IMO, the greatest group of musicians ever. RIP to true legends.
You're lucky!!!!!!!!
The Brothers forever!
Scofield was in the zone. fantastic playing all round.
😎

Totally agree, plus Marc and Jaimoe with Butch were a perfect Gumbo, and you can tell Derek appreciated them and always enjoyed firing them up.
Agree 100% Terrible way Butch checked out. RIP Check out Warren Haynes Govt. Mule and Scofield play STRATUS.
Absolutely brother 🍄🍑🍄
Well said..🍑🍑🍄
For whatever reason I never before applied the painting analogy to this, yet it seems to be exactly that :).
incredible!
Jamming in the finest tradition of the Allman Brothers Band, absolutely stunning! Thanks for posting!!
My pleasure! Glad you found your way here!
From their beginning to the end this was the greatest live jam-band in world history.
For a lot of us it was.
ABB and GD
I don't think GD compares. And honestly I think TTB is going to blow them both out of the water when it's all over.
Well that's like your opinion, man@@ZChoate

I was at a show in MI, where Sco's band opened for the Derek Trucks Band!
Wonderful. What a powerhouse of guitarists. Can't believe I just found this! TY.
Thanks, I'm glad you found it, when you get a chance be sure to watch Mountain Jam -- few have found it so far, but imho it's even better.
Saw it already@@Talking2musicians Outstanding!
I always wished for more live top level interaction between players and bands.

Thanks for listening😎
Imagine the World's three Greatest opera singers all performing on stage together.
What a terrific jam….just wow!
Cheers for the great post.
Thanks Davey, thanks for stopping by!!
I was at this concert, Scofield sounded like he'd been in the band for years. Amazing concert, thanks for the video!
😎Lucky! I also uploaded Mt. Jam from the same concert, must have been amazing to have been there in person.

J'en suis très heureux ! Il y a encore un clip sur cette chaîne avec Scofield et l'ABB
This is great & all the players are outstanding, but nothing will ever eclipse the original 6 for me.
Not even close. The magic of Duane and Dickey is a once in century occurrence. Basically a cover band since then.
Derek is great though
Scofield look is that of amazement when Derek plays! so funny.
I was walking with Warren to the JVC Jazzfest at the Beacon when we met John for the first time on his walk away from it around '88.
Derek absolutely 💯 % lit the stage on fire 🔥 wow, good lord-
That was incredible 👏 !
Now, who's next?
Oh....Scofield madness. Cool juxtaposition to the Allmans.
😎Thanks!
I miss this band. Like a lot.
But man did they have a long run🍑🍄🍑
Wow, Sco and Derek just smoke on this one!! Thanks for sharing this gem! Lot more interesting than Star People (Miles' live) IMO.
You bet! Be sure to watch the Mountain jam clip, Sco really wows Derek, Oteil, and Warren on that one.
Sco-Face! What a fucking incredible player.
Old and funky. Yes please
Respect. Very High. Imagine MILES With ABB. HEAVEN.
Thanks Karim!
John Scofield is my most favorite guitar player.
He is awesome indeed!
Mine too. The GOAT.

You can’t go wrong with HIM as your favourite player that’s for sure.

Amen brother, but such are our times. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment
Taylor Swift is pretty good; really. I mean I hear you but that was then, this is now
The Allman Brothers Band were part jazz and part blues-they were so different in there day.
Actually Dickey Betts solo on live at A & R Studios is the best one I have ever heard. And he did write this song.
The things that Dickey could do with his Les Paul back in his day will never be duplicated.
Dickey's "Highway Call" is also a great classic😎
Search for Scofield, Jaco Pastorious, and Kenwood Dennard jamming our The Chicken. They did a whole video series of some sick playing, as only those 3 could.
REally hard to get any better than the Allman Bros.
Thanks, you're correct ;-)
That was the tightest jam ive maybe ever heard. Hard to pick my favorite part. Its all too good.
Absolutely right
Los tres son muy buenos pero lo de Scofield es fantástico .
The bass player looks like he's playing the 1957 I sold. Few had the gold/anodized pick guards.
Sco da man❤❤❤
Hard to believe this was the first time he played with the whole group, Allman Brothers. He fit right in! ✌️
Platinum plus time
Not crazy about Scofield's tone here but what he's play'n is nice !!! ... Derek Trucks is kill'n !!!!
Smoking version. Loved Oteil trading lead lines.
Thanks Mike, Oteil is amazing.
Do not, please do not, miss the interview at the end.

Anyone who judges anyone's tone from the audio track of this video is flying blind. Nice vid, but it's a stream of a stream.
Musicians!
Sco is one of the greatest improvisational guitarists ever
no doubt about it
Scofield is so good even Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks look at him like he’s a freak.
They dig him for sure, watch the Mt. Jam clip, they are smiling all the way through.
No one will ever touch the Dicky and Duane version on the Fillmore East.
