Watching Iain and Harry Medcalf discuss work on and drive classic cars is so enjoyable after the painful, shouty 20 somethings You Tubers is full of.

I agree, UA-cam has better, more entertaining and more genuine entertainment than any traditional TV channel. I haven’t watched TV in several years.

Both Harry Metcalfe and Iain Tyrrell have great channels on UA-cam. They compliment each other in that Iain is more technically focused and perhaps a little more practical when it comes to technique in general, while Harry is most focused on the actual driving and how the cars are experienced on the road. However, both are well rooted in the 80's and as peers I would of course say that this is a good thing whether it's about cars from the 70's or more modern cars from the 90's and beyond. The car enthusiasts who were shaped in the 80's have the advantage that the cars at that time were probably the best analog cars and at the same time they form a connection between really old technology and the first digital cars (where everything changed relative to technology and not least performance).
I had a Porsche 928 S when it was relatively new as a model and I experienced how Porsche refined the technology (with, among other things, the passively co-steering Weissach rear axle) and in that way could catch up with the Italians' domain when it came to driveability and not least driving pleasure. Status alone was no longer the most important thing and the cars had to perform properly. Porsche was then a champion in this game and shows it clearly to this day. But if we talk about feelings and passion, whether it's about the design or the whole experience with the cars, Porsche is still not quite there yet.
Regarding the Rover SD1, I had an uncle who had this car as 3500 Vanden Plas in the late 70's (as far as I remember from 1979) and like Iain I was fascinated by the electric windows as well as the automatic gearbox. This was not common at the time (not in Europe) and the feeling of luxury was therefore palpable. V8 engine was not common at that time either and both the sound and the grunts were nice and something completely different than in my dad's Peugeot 505 :)

Both Harry Metcalf and Iain Tyrrell's videos are very welcome. They offer two very different perspectives. As an enthusiast of classic cars, and also as a classic car restorer. And as a film production specialist also. iain's videos pip Harry's for me, as Iain can explain more about the car's engineering and also design. Which is the full package for me.

Iain can tune the carburettors on these old classic cars using a hose pipe. His ear for music is applied in his day job. Oops, should have waited to the end of the video to comment.
Iain's video on the Italian Job Miura and his meeting with Lambo designer Marcello Gandini is one of the best of all of UA-cam, sheer class.
Iain and Harry are true car guys. Clarkson, May and Hammond are journalists, sort of, and TV personalities; their individual and collective attempts on UA-cam are pants.

That cheeky sod, so he got the car and then proved what it was and then drove it like that for awhile lol I still kinda cant get over the color difference though, like I think someone said they used filters to make it look lobster orange/red with the gold accents to match the junk chasis they dumped in the river at the end of the opening sequence, but its just so offputting to making you think its that car
like you wonder why no one made the dots, its because it didnt look like it based on the film, like in my mind its a lobster red miura with gold trim, not orange with silver, and I'm still having trouble adjusting to that thought that it is the car despite it not looking like it is.
the weird part being in certain versions of the film, the miura goes from looking like the red one, to the orange one we see here, like I remember when i came across that one and the miura went orange I was like, oh must be a bad copy or they screwed up somewhere and got the film stock wrong.

Funny the comments on the vinyl roof. For me as a Canadian, I always hated them and thought they are soooo "North American" ... horrible. Always. Especially the 1/4 vinyl roof on GM/Chrysler/Ford crap. FWIW I saw a Daimler VP shortly after Iain's Daimler vid aired... same colour too and super rare here in Canada.
