    All my efforts with Registax before were useless. Trial and error with no improvements. Many thanks for this tutorial. I followed this with some of my own Saturn data and finally got something I am happy with. No stopping me now.

    Hey Slymin, I really like your videos. I shot my first avi the other day of Jupiter and Stacked in Registax. Didn't know what I was doing haha. Your video will help me a lot. Thanks and I think you have a bright future ahead of you.

      +TimTools99 I'm glad! Jupiter is a pretty easy one to process if you get good frames. It becomes addicting really quick. Haha. Thanks!

    Nice video! I'm having trouble stacking Jupiter or Saturn with Registax 6 and I think it is mostly because I use An EQ3 mount without motors. So, in the short AVI that I make the planet moves from one side to another, I don't have it centered. I watched many Registax videos, read the instructions on different sites, i know the steps of the process, i chose few align points because it's better for cheap web cam videos as mine but after setting the align points and then limit, my align points NEVER remain on the object, I then drag the slider below with which you chose frames so I can reach a frame that has the circles of alignment and then hit stack but the result is much worst than the frame that I have started with. And because from a terrestrial target filmed that stayed still I could get a final frame and go on with the wavelets and finish the process, but with moving targets like planets I get all sort of problems I tend to thing it's because the object is not centered but crosses the screen in few seconds of the video. Other times after hitting stack I get shadows of the object on both sides and all kind of wierd stuff.. Today for example I've spend hours and got nothing, and in an article about using registax the author said that in 3 minutes runs through the entire process...as i should be because it's simple. my setup is Newtonian 150mm/1200mm on an EQ3 and a webcam. I don't have tracking, motors or genuine cooled high fps planet cameras but still I don't think that Registax can't be used if the object passes the screen and doesn't stay centered.

      @dreamingmusic3299 7 років тому +1

      My setup isn't as good as yours (no, I'm not kidding) and Registax does a great job for me.
      What I do is set the target on one side of my capture screen and instantly start the recording. The recording gathers the image as it passes across the screen. When it reaches the other side I stop the recording, move the scope a little so that the target is again on one side and start the recording again. I collect as many recordings as I can.
      Registax will accept any AVI file and process it even though the target drifts across the screen. Registax is good enough to follow the target.
      If there's some failure with the AVI file and Registax will not accept the file then I'll use VLC to extract the individual JPGs in the AVI and just have Registax process the 1,000+ JPG files. And there's no difference in the quality whether it's a pile of JPGs or one AVI file.

    Good review. IMHO the freeware AutoStakkert does a better job of debayering from the avi files and converts them into a TIF file that you can drop into Registax.

    Very helpful video, nice. Do you do planetary and dso astrophotography prime focus with Barlow or with eyepiece projection....I find hard to set the camera when doing eyepiece projection. Thanks in advance for any help. Keep up the nice job.

    Hi. We just got a Nexstar 8se SCT, but when I look at Mars or Jupiter, they just look like white dots... how do you zoom in to actually see stuff? We are looking with eyes and also with using a phone because currently everything is on back order..apparently we were really lucky to find the scope at the price we did

    I only ever used Registax for stacking moon photos since I only have a 400mm lens. But one thing confuses me, why is it better to record a video than taking a bunch of pictures? Surely you get much more resolution with a 20+MP photo than with a 4k video. Is it really better to have much more frames than having that extra resolution? Thank you for you explanations!

    Slymin, thanks for tutorial. I did my fist stax on Jupiter but found the target to be very small using an ED127mm and 8x eyepiece attached to the full frame Nikon. How did you get such a really zoomed in video of Saturn? I think you mentioned a CS, but did you use an eyepiece or a huge light bucket? Thanks

    • @AstroBlender
      @AstroBlender  6 років тому

      In an image processing program you could just select the area around the planet, copy it, and paste it. You could then move it to the center, and use the paintbrush tool and paint the old spot black.

    • @aeromoe
      @aeromoe 3 роки тому +1

      You probably already know what you're about to read. The focal length of your scope (1000mm, etc) divided by the eyepiece focal length (25mm, 12mm etc) equals your magnification. Longer focal length scopes yield more magnification for a given eyepiece. For example 1000mm / 25mm = 40 power magnification. 2000mm / 25mm = 80 power. If you introduce a Barlow lens you will multiply that power by the magnification of the Barlow, typically 2x or 3x (there are others as well) so you will be able to increase the image size. This all assumes you are talking about visual observing.
      If you are using a camera (DSLR) or dedicated astro camera you would of course leave out the eyepiece...unless you want to do afocal photography where the lens is still attached and you are photographing the image seen in the eyepiece. If you attach the DSLR body (without lens) or astro camera straight to the telescope you would be wise to try a Barlow lens between the scope and camera. This will effectively increase the magnification by increasing the focal length of the scope and result in a larger image on the camera sensor. But, depending on your initial scope focal length it still may not be big enough to impress you or meet your expectations.
