Hello everyone. I've noticed there were a couple of comments (for some reason I cannot find them now) saying that the Swastika is in fact related to Thor's Belt. I've mentioned this in this very video. This idea of the association between this symbol and Thor's Belt first appears in the famous painting "Tors strid med jättarna" by Mårten Eskil Winge (1872) at 08:50 . With this artistic work it started the depiction of the swastika on Thor's belt, thus sprouting the idea that the symbol was associated with Thor's Belt (even though there are no evidences in literary and archaeological sources, aside from this 19th century painting); the artist drawn inspiration from the 19th century misconception that the swastika was a symbol of Thor, as I also demonstrate in this video. Thank you all for your time. Have a wonderful day!
Modern paintings don't equal archeology, agreed. But with modern academia being petrified of the naughty swirls (i.e. folks saying it's just a Hindu symbol bro), as well as more broadly being blatantly Anti-European, you cannot blame folks for being cynical and skeptical. There is no symbol breakdown that points out x equals y explicitly in any ancient religion. That's why there's such a mystery, but saying something obtuse like this was Christian influence is completely ridiculous. The oldest known swastika pattern was found in Ukraine carved into mammoth bone. The symbol goes back to the Neolithic, not the Christian era.

Anyway, here's something else that may prove to be useful concerning the content of this video and the swastika: The Swastika starts from the representation of solar symbols, being one of the oldest and most widespread symbols of the Eurasian world (Euro-Asiatic), existing in cultures such as those of the peoples of the steppes (southeastern Europe and Siberia), India as well, of course, all the way to the British Isles and the Iberian Peninsula, thus being found in many Eurasian contexts, indeed. But in this video I'm speaking about it in the Northern European case, and I'm not yet speaking of the history of the Swastika in such a context, but rather of this idea of being associated with Thor. But the Swastika eventually reached Scandinavia, and it is specially noticible in the late Iron Age. For instance, we have to consider the solar cross/solar wheel (not yet the swastika) as an earlier symbol, that eventually also appeared in Northern Europe during Antiquity. Possibly it had connections with the myths involving a Sun deity or the "Solar King", and, archaeologically speaking, it was particularly important in the Bronze Age (speaking of western European contexts, from Scandinavia to the Iberian Peninsula and all in-between). However, there is an adoption of swastika-like symbols also to represent the solar cross/solar wheel, as a stylized iconography, as an evolution of the earliest sun crosses and wheels (in Scandinavia the swastika came to replace the spiral motifs). But in this video I am only dealing with the postmodern context in Iceland, but also addressing a context of the Germanic Iron Age, which, after the period of migrations, this symbol diminishes (like the solar cults), but survived in some depictions of the Viking Age and later periods (post-Christianity) resulting in symbols that present the fusion of pagan iconography with Christian beliefs (noticible in Rune Stones and Churches from the 11th to the 13th centuries; the swastika especially noticeable by these periods inserted in Christian crosses and decorating baptismal fonts). However, the connection between swastika and Thor is merely post-modern in an Icelandic context, and not something noticible in any period of Nordic history prior to Christianity and prior to the Modern Era. Some other time I will specifically adress the Swastika in Scandinavian context, but not today. Thank you all for your patience.

Hi Arith I want to thank you for all your hard work and discovered your video's last year December and currently working my way through all of them. My wife is rural Thai and more Animist than Buddhist although she does not know it and I have been involved in some animistic rituals concerning the ancestors and local deities and been researching it for a few years now in the Thai context. I had the deep down feeling that this was identical what we did in per-christian Europe a few thousand years ago. But could find no clear sources on animistic beliefs in Europe until I stumbled on your video's explaining animistic world views in detail. You certainly put my mind at ease concerning animistic rituals and I can now partake as myself and this is a great relief. Thank you again for showing me the way (this sounds like a cliche but there is no other way to describe it) . I am also a bit of an academic so appreciate your style very much.
Thank you so much for this. It's interesting how just a few days ago, someone was speaking about how the swastika was associated with Thor - which I had never heard of. Good to know that is a recent thing
Hi Arith, just a small note of critique: it is better these days instead of saying Judeo-Christian to refer to the faiths of that "branch" of mythology as Abrahamic. Thank you for such a thorough video! I really enjoyed it.
I would've used the term fylfot in this video to differentiate the symbol's use in Europe. The word "swastika" has a meaning, and as far as I know, this meaning is not applicable when we see the symbol's use outside of Hinduism. Yes, Fylfot is not an ancient term, but it is useful to show it in the context of the region. Better to use a modern made-up term than one from a completely different culture.

Well, I even saw swasitkas in lots of Chinese Kung Fu movies. In one of them Shaolin monks were testing a disciple by having fight against four attackers on a huge swastika which served as a kind of wicked stage... What I took from that was the insight that not everybody who uses the swastika to adorn his fantasies deserves any kind of scientific attention.
If you push a bit your research, you will see that the swastika was and still is used by many populations all around the world. It's a very old solar symbol, like well explained here in the video, a solar wheel. In Nepal and other countries the long the Hymalaya, they are carved over house-door, used on many small objects, jewellery and more. Again, as said, mostly as protection symbol.
@@DakiniDream Yes, I agree with you. I had this discussion already with a very educated Chinese person who wanted to enlighten me when I told her Falun Gong mustn't use the swastika when looking for support in Germany. Most Germans associate the swastika with Hitler. However, I am no typical German. The swastika has been used by any people(s) in many countries and on all continents. As Arith explained in this video, it has also been adapted by instituitions that were clearly opposed to thoe who had used it before. So basically I just wanted to say what you've just said: There is so much use of the swastika, Arith cannot possibly cover it all. Nor does he have to refute all the bogus concerning the swastika.
As a Swedish person I am so sad we don’t learn more about these things in school. We had such a cool history before Christianity took over… Cool symbols and stuff

Even though this video did not answer my initial questions about the swastika, I look forward to your next video where you explain this in more detail. My understanding, although not confirmed, is that the swastika in Norse magic was used as follow: The arms turned one direction meant drawing energy in, while the other way meant sending out energy. Hope you can clear this up for me and others. I don't use the swastika in my own works, but I have known others who did, but that was over 25 years ago.

Does anyone know if there's a specific name for the symbol when it's made out of four T's (or hammers)? It's seen for example on the so called "Buddah-Bucket" discovered with the Oseberg Vikingship from ~800 Norway. I've also seen it in the painting "Midvinterblot" 1915 by Carl Larsson, placed at the corners on his conception of Uppsala Temple. An identical logo was also popular in recent years, mocking the last american president by recreating this infamous symbol out of his inital T.
I'm not even sure how the h@ll someone could come up with either being tied to each other. I'm not pagan but can see the ridiculousness in that. smh some people are just too bored in life and have to create BS
Yeah, no doubt, SMH like the invention of jesus by radical leftist Mideasterners who were hell-bent on conquering Europeans, telling them insane lies like a how a jewish guy was actually a god that walked on water and revived some other jewish dead guy from his death. SMH it's so disgusting and ridiculous how ambitious groups of certain ethnic people can create these ideas to manipulate other ethnic cultures, eh? So sad how those Mideasterners almost completely destroyed the entire natural native European ethnoculture with their fake BS. Fortunately for us, we still have traces of our natural cultures to formulate some semblance of those beautiful truths. The abrahamic nonsense also destroyed the ethnocultures of the Americas. So sad and disappointing. SMH
The symbol of the swastika is undoubtedly a sun symbol, as Arith and other sources claims. I'd assume the symbol may have several connotations depending on the context. In some context futility and in other contexts a symbol for generative power source. The swastika on the Fattigmans/poor man's club may take on the meaning as generative power (denominative for arbeidskraft/labor capacity) for instance.
I’ve been away for minute due to a family issue. Gone physically but not in spirit! Even with factual teaching you will always have hearsay and dingbats out there. I missed you Arith!
Thank you Arith for this interesting and informative video. I was surprised at the image of Fattigklubba to be so similar to Thor's hammer in the depiction of Thor in Marvel films and TV series. I was surprised when I saw the depiction initially, though these films are really not my cup of tea, but now I think I understand the assumptions made by the movers and shakers in the Marvel offices. Sadly we still struggle with the depiction of swastikas, due to the abuse by a far-right regime who managed a hostile takeover of Germany and then took the world and the German nation to war, imprison and kill millions of Jews and other minorities, and also to the continued use by modern right-wing groups in the western world. Being German myself and born only a few years after the end of WWII, to this day I still cannot see a swastika without an inward shudder and worry over its use in the depiction, even though I have learned from a fairly young age when first interested in Germanic/Norse mythology that this is a positive sun symbol. I look forward to many more videos from you, I hope that your struggles with all your jobs work out for you to continue with these informative and important videos, and hope that the algorithms of UA-cam will be kind to you. Take care, look after yourself and your loved ones, including your sweet cats, and thanks once more!
I Wonder of christianism brought in North Europe something of mediterranean (specifically roman and greek) pagan sylmbolism that survived when christianism absorbed them in its own context. Swastica was present in roman and greek pagan culture also as decoration as It Is possibile to see on crockeries (Hope It Is the correct Word! I apologise.) from the archaic greek period.

The original swastika is a symbol of the four elements combining. It’s been used by many ancient cultures. Now we can not know one way or other if it was directly on Thord hammer. What would make more sense is that it was associated w the inscriptions of the theory of the hammer since he bends elements to do what he does. I agree w the video it wasn’t on the hammer. But the association most likely is there because it’s an ancient Germanic symbol that was stolen from us for use for political gain and demonization of our people.
@@kingkoi6542 you can play devils advocate, and I applaud you for doing so.... however, who's stopping someone from using that specific symbol... a group that stops others from using a symbol are the ones that stole it (using your analogy) so tell me... whose stopping people from using that symbol?... You say maybe 20 times it became a christian protective symbol? or symbol of protection? What is your evidence of that? It is an ancient symbol of power, cycling power, as in an axle, as in a wheel.. as it will likely remain
Hello. The evidences are shown in the video itself and in the Bibliography. With Christianization, in Scandinavia, the Swastika was adopted by Christians as a symbol of protection as well as the representation of Christ, which coincides with similar contexts in Christian monuments (with the Swastika) in Ireland. The Swastika during the late Viking Period and the beginning of the Middle Ages in Scandinavia was often placed on Christian monuments such as Picture Stones, inserted within Christian crosses. One of the cases I've shown here is the Rune-Stone DR 337, at Valleberga, Skåne, Sweden, from the 11th century CE, where you can see the Swastika at the centre of the Christian Cross. There's also other examples, such as the church Great Canfield, Saint Mary, Essex, England, XII century and the representation of 5 Swastikas at the south porch below a figure which is usually associated with Odin with his two ravens, but it could just as well be two doves and the face of Christ. These are quite common motifs. The Swastika in Scandinavia during the late Iron Age seems to have been associated with Odin, and with Christianization it became associated with Christ, being turned into a Christian symbol of protection as well as of good luck. Plenty of examples in England, Ireland and Scandinavia. I shall explore this in some other video concerning the evolution of the Swastika and its religious motifs in Scandinavia, both in pre-Christian and Christian periods.
@@ArithHärger Thank you, I appreciate all the research and work that you do, as well as compiling all the evidence. I have been enjoying your videos for over a year. Excellent work. I accept the evidence you provide however I disagree with your conclusion, stating matter-of-factly that it was intended to be a symbol of christian protection. Though it was portrayed in association with christian imagery, your guess is as good as anyone's as to what was intended by the meaning of the symbol in the minds of people 900 years ago. To me, it clearly represents cycling force/energy, spinning motion, something that gave people great power then in the form of the wheel and the chariot and something that still runs our civilization today. Cycling spinning energy runs the entire universe. I think this is a nicer symbolism than christian protection.

I know you put a lot into every video to help spread the great knowledge of our people. Also you have covered many other topics I would not have known without you. So I wish health to you and your family. Please keep making content. I love you as much as a straight guy can lol!!!
I appreciate that you took the time to make this, and I wish you great strength in this challenging moment in your life. Everything will runs its full course as life flows forward.
I Just wanted to say that I've been learning so much from you and I appreciate the amount of research, details, and bibliographies. I can't believe you are doing all of these videos on top of having 3 jobs, when I struggle with one job and college haha... Nonetheless, judging by the comments it seems I am of only a handful of people that appreciate the effort and I hope you continue. Thank you for everything.
Three jobs? Sell your plasma? Hang in there, bro!
Thanks for this video. Everything is exactly as I told everyone, it is very pleasant to receive confirmation of my words. Thanks to.
in our community, it was assumed that the deity on the bracteate was Freyr, as one of the gods of horses, gifts and gold.
I assume that this is not a single-valued, collective symbol, where different symbols of good luck are connected, as has always been done. In general, such mixing is quite frequent.
"Because it's hard to let go of what we thought to be the truth for so long" this was a great quote from you Arith. I will remember this!
Interestingly enough, there was a coin recently found with a runic inscription and a depiction of Odin and a swastika.
Indeed, I've done a video about it, you can see it here if you have the time:
ua-cam.com/video/Ji0A087ZHIE/v-deo.html&t
I would've used the term fylfot in this video to differentiate the symbol's use in Europe. The word "swastika" has a meaning, and as far as I know, this meaning is not applicable when we see the symbol's use outside of Hinduism. Yes, Fylfot is not an ancient term, but it is useful to show it in the context of the region. Better to use a modern made-up term than one from a completely different culture.
Who do you think brought the Swastika into the Indus Valley? 🤣
É a única evidência ligando Thor à suástica. Em breve publicaremos os resultados.
Muito obrigado. Vou pesquisar esse e ficar atento!
It creates a high frequency, that's why the deep state used is as an evil symbol. So they could ban the use of it.
Once more thank you so much for your time and the useful information. Thank you for taking the time to clarify so many misconceptions by doing this you give us, educators, tools to plant seeds of curiosity for knowledge.
🙏
As a Swedish person I love to learn more about my history!!
I don't use the swastika in my own works, but I have known others who did, but that was over 25 years ago.
you are precious I am Italian, listening to my interests (I have Danish - Swedish origins) I also perfect English Thanks!
I just subscribed on Patreon with intention that you will be able to devote as much time as you want to making videos. I love your work and I love learning about old Norse culture! Thank you for your efforts!!! 😄
Very much appreciate this video. Thank you for making it.
My only bit of sanity on you tube xxx thank you
I m prepare Brigid s cross.look like a swastika and I bump on your video of the similar subject. I just write to wish a Happy Merry IMBOLC to you great master.
I think the symbol from the Icelandic grimoire is representing Mjolnirs ability to fly towards its target and always return.
Is it weird that a Muslim is watching Pagan channel? Maybe but I like your content and your effort thanks for sharing your knowledge mate!
No it's not weird at all, we can follow one religion while being fascinated or curious about another. ;)
What do you think of the Vindelev hoard found?
The swastika is with Odin. Also the text wodinaz.
How come the symbol seems to turn to the right & sometimes like on the chariots wheel it turns to the left?
Very interesting as usual. Hang in there buddy, maybe it´s better to just do 1 or 2 videos a month so you don´t get a burn-out or smth with the 3 jobs. If some people are too impatient to wait for the good stuff it´s their loss.
Thank you Arith for another most compelling video..from Cape Town South Africa 🇿🇦😎🌹
Is the shield cross or a shield knot a symbol of mjolnir spinning?
Does anyone know if there's a specific name for the symbol when it's made out of four T's (or hammers)? It's seen for example on the so called "Buddah-Bucket" discovered with the Oseberg Vikingship from ~800 Norway. I've also seen it in the painting "Midvinterblot" 1915 by Carl Larsson, placed at the corners on his conception of Uppsala Temple. An identical logo was also popular in recent years, mocking the last american president by recreating this infamous symbol out of his inital T.
Thank you Arith.🌞
Explication absolument fantastique, félicitations!
I’ve been away for minute due to a family issue. Gone physically but not in spirit! Even with factual teaching you will always have hearsay and dingbats out there. I missed you Arith!
did the swastika come from India/Asia to Europe, or was it created here independently?
Who else is here for the accent?! haha :P well delivered.
I'm in love with you and all the content on your channel. greetings from Brazil
Keep up the good work Arith I understand the multiple job thing I'll be waiting for your content and understand any delays .. stay strong and remember the God's are watching your hard work to share knowledge to the masses
Symbols can't be stolen.... otherwise you stole the language you're using... see how that works?
@@ulfson279 Well perhaps stolen in you no longer have access to it. It's quite a taboo symbol don't you think. Just to be devil's advocate.
@@kingkoi6542 you can play devils advocate, and I applaud you for doing so.... however, who's stopping someone from using that specific symbol... a group that stops others from using a symbol are the ones that stole it (using your analogy) so tell me... whose stopping people from using that symbol?...
Think about that concept for a minute....
@@ulfson279 Well you have groups like the ADL (ant-defamation league). In Germany and other countries they've banned the symbol. In America the general understanding of the symbol comes from WW2 so again it's taboo to the public which in turn makes it controversial to use it. Just think about that one for a real hard sec...
@@kingkoi6542 the splc? ....The court system (having that symbol on you and committing a crime will give you extra charges)...
The people that punish for using a symbol can be seen as stealing the symbol
Another great vid Arith! Getting close to 100k SUBS too..... ;)
Thank You, once again.
But you just said this symbol of Thor was a reshaping of the swastika at around 5:20. So obviously it does have something to do with swastika according to your own words.
I hate peoples ignorance about the "swastika". How dare they.. how dare they..
Dvde, thov hast been a bvsy man - thank yov for delivering this particvlar video
Eu tive 4 ou 5 encontros espirituais com o Thor e gostaria de compartilhar com vocês. Num determinado momento achei que estava louco, mas, de fato foi real e ele existe de fato.
Thank you 😇🙏🏻😇🌺🌞
Boy, how I want to understand the history of the swastika, by what I found it wasn't from the nazis at all, it was appropriated by them.
Can i just say THREE JOBS, and you dont even count UA-camr, Musician, Philosopher, Warrior and Poet among them!?
You make us under-achievers look REALLY bad lol
Love your stuff kick on love it
Thank you
May your journey only Be better Blessed...

Why can’t people just speak truth why are we always hell-bent on who is better who is stronger what color what shape what size we are hindering our growth just be genuine and honest‼️
Takk for i dag 🙏 fin video
The Swastika represents the pole star with the big dipper rotating around it.
It has been proven that the Swastika symbol is nothing but the Vedic Hindu "AUM" sound, it is a combination of two "Z" letters which represent "O" sound in Brahmi Script and the combination of two Os and a dot creates OOM (AUM) sound.
It was used wayyy before the vedic traditions, it goes back to the Vinča culture.
@@jacoblangobard4640 I have to disagree , I did not talk about which tradition/culture is older, I am just saying the Vedic tradition perfectly preserved what ancient indo-europeans have gathered while modern europeans are mostly followers of semitic tradition...
@@100monotheist-fkeroffalseg8 oh ok I see what you mean 👍

As far as I know the swastika is a symbol from south/central Asia.
It came to South/Central Asia by way of Aryan invasion.
@@RoosterNutz12 the nazis stold it
To put it blunt it is a Hindu symbol nothing to do with the Norse or Vikings .It goes back to India ,Do your own research like I did .Go and read about it in books as they are more accurate than the internet,
"Hindu"
You mean Indo-European or Aryan symbol
The oldest swastika was near 11,000 years old in Ukraine carved into mammoth bone. Maybe you should do real research boyo
Numerous religions and cultures have used at least some variation of the swastika. Native Americans, Hindus, Slavs, Persians.
The symbol itself is not just Hindu, but is actually part of a LOT of cultures, both old and new. It kind of is a symbol that brings a lot of different cultures closer together.
Swastica It belongs to many people, it is One of those symbols that belongs to times when humanity was in small communities... Then changes from people to people keeping similar sylmbolism...
