ive been using this epoxy primer for 10 years. Friggin love it. Spray it with 1.3 tip via tekna prolite, lays flat as glass every time (no reducer needed). Against bare steel, the adhesion is extremely strong, to remove it you must grind it off. Very awesome product for the price paid
You are a mentor to many and certainly to me and my man here I am teaching with your videos to paint my 40 year old Camaro. God Bless You and Eastwood. keep um coming.
New to using epoxy primer, unsure what to use to clean the paint gun? I didn't see anything on either can regarding clean up. And I don't want to end up ruining a new paint gun. I have the Eastwood Contour Pro gun.
I bought the black epoxy from Eastwood sturd it well spray it and when it dried it came out brown and dull seemed like real cheep watery stuff. Spi products is the way to go.
He said he sprayed the Epoxy Primer with the 1:3 tip. The product info says use 1:4-1:8. So what is it ? Also how many microns was the strainer ? Nothing in Eastwoods info about it. I found info elsewhere that said 80 microns for solvent based epoxy primer. Only ones I see on the site is 190 & 226
The TDS says you can reduce 20% with a quality urethane primer (when would you do this and is 20% the max it should be reduced). Is it better to reduce when using as a sealer before base coat or shoot it as you did here full strength? Will reducing give less chance of orange peel?
Is there information on a “Salt Spray” test in hours so a choice can be made comparing apples to apples? Or do I have to find that info in the TDS sheets? Thanks.
Can you add high build primer after using epoxy primer when it is flashing? Or do you have to let the epoxy cure completely then spray high build primer
Great video now this may sound stupid but I'd like to know how to use the sata rps cups I could you please please make a video on that with the ratio of 4:1:10 I'm using the rm primer
let me ask, can i start spraying 2k urethane primer right over the epoxy primer sealer. i am wanting to build up the primer some more. i am wanting to spray the urethane primer maybe about 1 hour after the epoxy sealer
I am getting ready to paint my motorcycle fairings. The new fairings will need to be sanded. But my question is. Can I just use the primer epoxy, sealer n skip just using regular primer? Also in your video you was using the Concour Pro paint, clear gun. The newest one you all have is the EastWood cc500. Would you consider this a better gun than the Concour Pro? I know this is a lil old of a video, n I watch yr videos quit a bit. Hope all is well! Thanks God Bless!!
@eastwood I have the concours lt100 can I use a 1.3 tip it came with to spray eastwood black epoxy primer ? Or do I need to get a different tip I’m asking this because you said you used 1.3
When is the proper time to use a sealer? I've finished my metalwork and have already done some light fill to level things out. Should I do a polyester primer first, block it out and then lay the sealer followed by basecoat , or do I do the sealer first? I keep finding conflicting information.
somehow, I am getting orange peel with this. I used degreaser 3 times along with the isopropyl alcohol. I am using a 1.5 fluid tip at 34 psi. any ideas?
If I want to paint a car in phases, is this a good place to pause? In other words, if I have a car covered in epoxy primer, can I then drive it around for a few weeks before beginning the next phase (straightening out the door gaps, welding in replacement panels, adding filler where necessary, etc.)?
+neonjoe529 Epoxy is a great place to pause the project, there are just a few things you need to make sure you address. First, epoxy is a slower curing material - it has a five day open window where you can top coat it without scuffing it first. That means that after priming, you should give it as much time as possible before you let it sit out in the weather. A few days sitting in good weather, especially out in the sun, will help to make sure you have no issues. Epoxy is a great seal against moisture, but you need to make sure there’s enough material on the surface without thin spots. There’s a fine line between getting enough material coverage and building too much, because epoxy primer isn’t meant to build heavily on the surface. Three medium-wet coats should do it. Once you’re ready to do other things like filler and surfacing primer work in a few weeks, you’ll just need to rough up the surface with the appropriate grit before starting. If you’re ready to work an entire panel, run a DA sander over the whole thing with 180-220 grit paper, and then rough up the spots where you need to do filler work with 80 or 180 grit. Hope this helps. Are YOU an Eastwood Guy? - Eastwood - Since 1978
If I used the contour sct with the 80 grit stripping drum would I be able to shoot this onto the panel or would I have to go up to 180 and use that before because It’s already down to bare metal and I’d like to seal it?
You probably won't need to reduce the Epoxy Primer just because it's going on bare metal. We do offer 3 reducers (Slow, Medium, Fast), which are used based on temperature. The instructions on the Epoxy Primer will explain what you need to do, and you can also contact our Tech Department for additional assistance: 800-343-9353
It's a two component paint with a hardener, which is what makes it so durable as compared to a standard air-dry paint like you get from a typical aerosol can. This video will help explain: ua-cam.com/video/aN0-nDPhkGU/v-deo.html
How long can the metal stay with epoxy primer on it how many costs is good ? I did my Cadillac to metal cost it with epoxy but not in seeing rust coming through
I would think it would need something way bigger than that... he did say its a whatever flow tip though.. perhaps its a different style? I would do at least a 2.0 for epoxy... I use 2.2. Its thick stuff compared to regular primer.
+ae86miami This Eastwood Epoxy Primer mixes 1:1 with the catalyst. There's a link in the video to visit Eastwood for more info. Thanks for the interest.
+eric gonzales Yes. He just reduced it a little bit and used it as a sealer when he sprayed the Camaro. TC Penick of Bay One Customs also uses it as a sealer. Here's a video with a truck he built for SEMA 2015 that featured a lot of Eastwood products, paints and tools - ua-cam.com/video/FiHPtnpoNM0/v-deo.html
SOOO really pissed off right now. all my panels have a ton of acne. small pimples everywhere. double strainer and machine shook to break up solids. after fast etch was applied waited next day. washed with acetone the wgr.Used you concourse gun 1 med wet coat 1.7 tip at 70 degrees What am i missing? This paint has got to be the only issue i used the 2k before this on another project and NO issues. Soo all this money up in smoke...
Acne.....? Have you tried wet sanding this "acne" down? Are you sure it isn't dust or foreign particles? If they are craters, it could be water droplets spraying out of the gun.

Would you also sand this with 400 for a solid base paint or from all the prior work its ok to just shoot the base after?
I've been using this over the past few weeks, and from what I can tell, it's a good product. Time will tell as to whether it lasts.
What kind of respirator/filters would you recommend when spraying this paint?

I have a old sears sprayer with #35 tip will this work
Can you add high build primer after using epoxy primer when it is flashing? Or do you have to let the epoxy cure completely then spray high build primer
The standard work flow would be to epoxy prime and then top coat with PAINT or let it cure, block, then apply more coats of primer.

Getting ready to paint my 75 Corvette bodywork and rough primer done what should go next Apoxy primer or 2K primer?
let me ask, can i start spraying 2k urethane primer right over the epoxy primer sealer. i am wanting to build up the primer some more. i am wanting to spray the urethane primer maybe about 1 hour after the epoxy sealer
There is a base of black primer already ? You can spray on new bare metal..correct??

The sealer is applied as a thin uniform coat before the basecoat (ie paint) Gene. Always.

homiegali 15 % reducer as a sealer
Marcus Hodge meaning before you paint it after you get all body work done as a sealer? Or should I reduce it if it’s going on bare metal
1.3 mm for the sealer? Did you reduce the 1:1 further?

You used a 1.3 fluid tip but P sheet said 1.4 to 1.8?
May I just ask what is the purpose of catalyst? Why do we need catalyst for epoxy primer. Thanks

1-2

how good is the epoxy primer
Will this epoxy primer work on fiberglass panels also?
bauhaus , Dunno if this is late or not but yes, epoxy primer works on fiberglass, but a lot of people will recommend urethane primer.
So u can used this as a sealer at 1:1

Can I put epoxy on a sanded sunburnt dry hood without sanding the epoxy before paint?
I thought you were supposed to go with the airflow of the booth
