This is by far one of my favorites of all your renovations that I have watched so far and it is because of the color. LOVE IT! Most of the others seem so sterile to me with everything white or gray. Finally, an owner with some joie de vivre!
Some of the comments so critical of the colors are absolutely absurd. If the client loves color and decorates with that in mind then it can be and does appear to be fabulous. People are enamored with white because it looks great in UNLIVED in spaces. Once a home is furnished and lived in, white can seem a sterile and timid choice.
Love SOME of the colors especially in the hall and kitchen! Very nice! Love the way you utilized the dead space under the bathroom sink! I've ALWAYS said this could be used efficiently in this way! Great!!
This is a nice remodel. I don't like the choice of mustard yellow for the living room, nor do I like the large brown moldings on the floor, but that's what the clients wanted. The red hallway looked nice initially, but doesn't seem to go with the rest of the apartment.
Wow! I grew up in this area and remember those apartments with those long dark, narrow hallways and chopped up little rooms. Impressive work with the bathroom and the kitchen, because as I recall, both were small and blah. I realize that you work with the client's specifications, however I was a little sad to see the mahogany woodwork in that room go. Thanks for sharing.
LOVE the color, especially the rich blue in the guest room. Thank goodness for some spice among "neutral" people. Sincerely, I want to live in a home. I will visit a spa.
I understand not wanting to place your name on something you feel will look bad in the end, but there IS something to be said for providing your client with what they like, want, and are paying for. I love color, lots and lots of color, and I can't imagine paying someone to tell me that my personal taste can't be incorporated into my own home. I know that makes it sound as though I dislike your work, and I don't, I happen to love it, but I also love feeling like myself in my own space. I just feel for this home owner, especially give that you now have a public record of your dislike for her style.
maybe it was just the choice of brown. ha. when she said that about color, I thought well the owner can go crazy with whatever color towels and art they want on that neutral wall. :) i always wonder if the owners see these videos. I can only imagine the"drama" she mentioned. hee hee
LOL!! Well, the true test of communicating is agreeing to disagree and honesty.. in the end everything was as she wanted, without any disrespect. And now.. the entire apartment color has changed.. sold to new owners!! back to neutral!! :)
I love her! She's so funny: "I had to talk her out of it, I just couldn't stand it" lmao. My grandmother felt the same way abt my granfather's favorite color: brown! I have no problem with it, but I know where she's coming from!!
Oh, man, I love this apartment. it's stunning. I like he colors. I painted my house with colors. Kitchen looks much the same color as mine which I had done 4 years ago. gets me wondering how my cabinets would look gray.
Paula!! I love your esthetic! Your work is divine! Lovely use of space and though I usually select natural stone ( I love marble ) you've got me thinking about using Cesar Stone- you do it so well!
I love the gray kitchen cabinets and love the bathroom. I do not like the tall dark wood molding in the living room, I'm thinking Paula isn't so keen on it either. The moldings thru out are gorgeous, and I am loving the doors, the top frosted glass on the doors is especially nice. Especially the bathroom, what a good idea. I'm partial to transomes, and that was perfect. I have to say, I know Paula usually paints the windows white, but I do like the windows left as the bronze, (as I have them also), so I like that she left them, again, JMO The one room with the creamy color walls and the tan molding, while nice, threw me off balance with the rest of the apartment. I think JMO again, which is worthless, I'd like it consistent throughout, with the color walls instead. The floors are OK, not loving them. I appreciated when Paula said she hated the brown walls, lol....(I agree)
I think retaining the original dark wood floor moulding in the sitting room was a mistake as the colour of the wood not only shouts out because it’s very dark wood but also the floor moulding it adjoins is a different colour and a different height.
Wood floors in a kitchen or bath can be a maintance headache. Colors are great. I think keeping the door hardware retains a link to the units past but overall great job
These re-models are always fab , but this one is a little dark especially in the kitchen , but it’s down to personal taste , I would have a lot lighter colours x
Waaaay too many colors going on. Thank god, Paula put her foot down re: bathroom. Again she was right about the high brown moldings. UGHH-LEEE. On the plus side: Kitchen is spectacular!!

I love these renovations, they are all so tasteful but the color palette of this one... it kind of hurts, I know it's the client's taste but it still hurts.
The person who owns this apartment got infected with "fearless decorator bacillus". The columns were lovely , the baseboard was too tall for low ceilings and needed to be cut down, leaving it exposed and almost foot up on the wall is ridiculous . And then those colors...And all the original wall paneling ripped off the walls.... I hope you've recycled them for another property . You r an ultimate pro . with nerves of steel to deal with this owner's questionable design choices .
I mean regardless of whether or not it's ugly and design theory says it's aesthetically unappealing or makes it look smaller, you're providing a service in exchange for money. If a client says they want something and is willing to pay you to provide it, you have the choice of saying yes and getting paid, or no and leaving it behind and probably giving yourself a worse name. If one is concerned about not wanting to put their name on something they don't like they can simply keep it out of their portfolio. The benefit and positive regard you get from respecting a client's choices while implementing and negotiating your own knowledge and choices far outweighs the alternative of being an unmovable hard ass in this situation.

I so agree! After all what it really comes down too is that THE CLIENT loves the colors because that will be HER sanctuary.

I'm a post modernist so I would have kept the columns and molding - but I love how you opened the space.

Understandable, but the color choice is PURE EVIL. You do not use so much color with lack of space, at best leave it as an accent wall.
