I love to freak my hiking friends out by eating things on the trail in front of them. And it's all because of you much love. And because of you I will never starve to death!

For a firebow set, I have used Pine Barren Goldenrod (Solidago fistulosa) for a spindle on a Heartleaf Sida (Sida cordifolia) fireboard to get a coal with good success. They both have low ignition temperatures similar to Yucca stem and Horseweed stem. Cattail stem on a Yucca fireboard works also.
I always used it for dried décor in the fall time. Spray with a bit of hair spray or soak in glycerin water to retain the blooms. Makes great flower arangments.
I love Goldenrod. It calms my anxiety. Canadian Goldenrod in Tennessee is very nice to smell but nothing like licorice or anise. More like a soft warm floral.
Nice! I might add from my experience Canada goldenrod works well as a spindle for a hand drill/ bow drill for starting fire. You can also sometimes find grubs in the stalk which you can eat or use as fish bait.
Seconded on the grubs! On a boy scout survival trip I used one to catch a bluegill which I then cut up and caught 2 channel cats with. We ate good that night.
Great info & vids! I'm just discovering you... was researching wapato. Maybe you've already done it, but it would be great -- and quite useful -- if you'd put out a video about what to harvest in the winter (or any season). I might be a little late harvesting wapato, but I'm going to give it a shot anyway. I'm in the PNW in WA, on the coast just north of the Columbia. The area, landscape, conditions, and flora are largely new to me, having lived mostly in semi-arid areas all my life. So I'm a bit lost... but I'll learn.
A few weeks ago maybe a month ago I thought I saw goldenrod plants but I wasn't sure and now after seeing this video I am sure I saw them. Thanks. And I hope you had a happy Thanksgiving and we'll have a Merry Christmas.
Another super video from Mr. Deane! I'm hoping (since this was published a year ago) that he is still around, making videos and giving us a space to be with like-minded people. Lots of love!!!
Thank you for this. I was wondering if Goldenrod was edible as mine can produce some fairly large tap roots, so I was interested in that feature. I just hadn’t done any research on it yet. I’ll need to taste the leaves or shoots next spring as our Goldenrod season is over.
I could only hear the background music when the plant was displayed but never heard your voice. I hope it’s just my connection but thought I should say so in case it’s not. 27/11/21 in Lufkin m, TX
Hello! I am sitting here with one of your relatives. Eli Karson, from CT (and now residing in Tucson) would like to reconnect with you. This is my father-in-law actually! Is there a way in which he could do so? Looking forward to your reply and to your upcoming EAT THE WEEDS book this October!
70 years you have known about this? I had no idea you were past your 50's in age? Must be all those good weeds, not to be confused with weed, that are keeping you youthful. :)

Yeah, I've been eating weeds for about a decade. It's almost never a turn on to people. Most people look at me like I'm insane
@@ScottWConvid19 People are way too removed from their food source and that's what's insane

@@ScottWConvid19 I think "sad" is a more appropriate description of this time in our history. We need to bring it back.

I didn't know about the leaf fungus. Great info. Just found your channel. Greetings from Mayberry, NC.
Good to know about the rusty fungus.. thanks for sharing G !)
Excellent and interesting presentation. Thank you!
I just moved down to Ft White and this channel became even more useful to me.

*I have some tall ones here, they get up to 6 feet. Also you can cut the goldenrod 1/3 down from the top and it will continue to grow*

I have been eating the weeds now for 2 years so far so good 😊. Thanks
Great information with wonderful embellishments. Now I can't wait to investigate the field with Goldenrod near my Dad's place tomorrow.
You could burn the fuzz from the seeds. Run the stem though a fire and the fuzz should burn quickly.
Thank you so much for showing the roots!!
Great video keep it up.
Love your channel sir ☺️

Alder is a popular wood for electric guitar bodies. There's plenty of golden rod growing here in rural NY during the warm months.
That’s no lie! Goldenrod everywhere!
😁”salt ? Does not taste like French fries”.😂❣️❤️
Had me dying laughing at that one

Great video. Thank you. So the whole plant is edible?
I use the flowers or very young tops
We have a few varieties here in Ontario
Thanks green Dean.

What did you discover? Were they edible? Thanks!
Have you tried burning off the fluff like with milkweed? Or maybe boiling the seeds and seeing if the fluff will float to the top?
ThankYou ❤
Love it
🤣💚💚💚 thanks for the knowledge.
all the meals I missed because I rip a lot out - they spread like crazy!!!
I find all varieties of goldenrod to smell and taste very pleasant to me personally guess I’m weird 😅
To me it taste like corn juice.
My family and I have been taking for sinus infection.
We are doing so well with just tea 3x a day.
I didn't know they turned to face the sun like sunflowers do. So, not inanimate.
Have a great safe years end

Yeah, raw potato flavor isn't my cup of tea, either.
Your sound like a loyalist to the queen...lol
