So in case Third Impact did happen -- which it did -- he'd be killed by the choker instead of Shinji, even if it meant robbing the boy of any chance of happiness. Because y'know, Kaworu wanted Shinji to be able to live and be happy, but in his sacrifice he ended up completely robbing Shinji of any chance to be happy. Though honestly it's possible Kaworu is still alive, considering there's been a rainbow of sorts every time one of the angels died, and there wasn't one when Kaworu was killed. It's pure speculation, but it may be possible. To be honest, though, I really would have preferred to see Shinji go berserk a second time to rescue Kaworu... Especially after that epic derailing the third movie brought about... >_> Kinda screwed over the rebuild, if you ask me... Guess we'll just have to wait until 4.0... :/
