I've been fortunate in my animation career not to have needed to do much self promotion. It's not my forté... but this is all good advice. I haven't even managed to put together a portfolio yet, so for me self-promotion in the photography realm feels like putting the cart before the horse.
I am an introvert so it does not come naturally. I however found that being surrounded by people that encourages you (even if they are not the direct clients) helps a lot.
