This was such a fascinating video. I've been a fan of Milhaud's music since I first came across his 'Saudades do Brasil'. His work is criminally neglected in my humble opinion. Thanks for putting this together and introducing more people to his music.
Great video! As the student of a student of the fellow I’m delighted. Modern composers mess around too much and don’t work. Milhaud composed quickly because he actually worked. He’d get in the flow and enjoy the feel of the flow. In May I composed: a string quartet, four symphonies, two piano trios and the first half of a violin concerto. How? By working 10-12 hours a day every day. And there’s never a good reason (outside of health) not to make quality work. Work. It’s the difference between an artist and a hobbyist.
A wonderful masterclass of this iconic French composer. Packed full of hundreds of facts that hit you harder & faster than the Wood Block does in La Creation du Monde! Fabulous post.
I finally got a chance to view this clip. It's excellent in every way. I knew very little about Milhaud's life and now, I want to hear more of his music. Thank you Thomas!
@@ClassicalNerd I’d love to see an analysis of Cornelis Dopper. His music features a lot of fascinating references to various folk melodies and his local culture, and just overall is really interesting to me.

In my opinion he was the greatest of Les Six.
@@thegoatjesus6133 He certainly was. He certainly was. 👍🏼

I'm watching EVERY single video you create! Wonderful explanations, with not much sarcasm! High IQ video education! THANKS!

Brilliant, it must have taken you ages to work on Milhaud, such a long productive life.
I started in June while on a flight from Boston to Los Angeles, and filmed in mid August.
Superb, as always. Many thanks for this!

Yet another wonderful video! Would you be interested in doing one on Xaver Scharwenka?

Are there any books written about this union vs composer conflict?
None that I'm aware of-it is just a sentiment I've found across a number of biographies.
Darius meyo :3
Noticed the cowlick
I didn't know Milhaud was Jewish!
