I had exactly the same experience last week with a cancelled train from Brussels. Unfortunately it meant I couldn't reach my destination the same day, so I ended up on some random night bus. At least in the Reise Centrum they were quite fast and spoke English.

Sorry to hear you had a similar experience. It really is SO frustrating. We’re supposed to be considering trains over plains for travel but at the moment it’s awful if you have delays or missed connections.

@@Adamenroute : Thanks! I had issues in both directions (had a cancelled train and the following one was 45 minutes late, making me 2h45 late in Brussels and nearly missing the Eurostar (with a "safe and solid" 3h20 connection). I certainly won't be travelling this way to the UK again for the foreseeable future - each connection has a risk of delay or outright cancellation. As I booked through Czech Railways instead of DB, I wasn't informed of the cancellations in advance either :(

That’s the problem when you book via channels which don’t transmit the contact information to the carrier. I started booking via the DB app for this reason as prior to that I turned up with a paper ticket and found out by chance that the train was cancelled (same train too!). I didn’t have many problems before Covid so I’m sure there’s a link between the two. Definitely if I can, I’ll be flying if it’s a possibility and there’s not too expensive. The compensation for a long delayed flight is better than a train and if they cancel they have to get you there still, even if they have to book you with another operator.

The same thing happened to us on Friday, except we were due to go to Francfort with the last ICE on Friday & then transfer to Würzburg... only managed to make it until Francfort & had to stay there overnight. Then, 2 days later (ie, today), our ICE to Brussels was cancelled AGAIN. We're getting to Aachen, hoping we'll arrive in Brussels tonight still as we have work-related meetings tomorrow morning. What a nightmare... and in both cases, we were warned of the cancellations less than 2h before the trains' departure times...

Sorry you had to deal with that as well. It seems to be a very regular thing to happen at the moment whilst is so so horrible for the people that are counting on those services as part of a longer journey with connections like us. I hope you manage to get your compensation sorted from them - make sure you claim for everything you can! Thank you so much for commenting too…it really helps to know that what I’m doing is being appreciated by others.

Christmas day, my 15 yr old granddaighter could not get home because of german trains not running. This country is heading for 3rd world status. They thìnk they are a world power but its an allusion. Strange that most EU countries are ending up in chaos. Makes one wonder about EU generally

I appreciate you taking the time to comment and I’m sorry your granddaughter couldn’t get home on Christmas Day. I’m not here to get into a political discussion as that’s not what my channel is for. I’ll simply say that times are challenging at the moment in general and it’s disappointing that Deutsche Bahn cannot use technology more effectively to manage disruption when things go wrong. Thank you for supporting the channel and best wishes for the future.
