I totally agree with him. His mind is opened, he is a sponge for wisdom, a true philosopher who has mastered language and never stops thinking about life, himself and the world.

I heard Saul at Bonnaroo and he blew me away. Loved Slam. Niggy...well...I'm not a Reznor fan at all...but I can appreciate it artistically. This is a fantastic interview. It was good to hear more about the person behind the incredible lyricism. He is a good confirmation of some core beliefs.

I've always created art of all forms music, painting, drawing, writing - the more i fight to create art the more i am actually fighting to look inward - to tear out anything dishonest and be as honest as possible. People like Saul Williams are the true artists of today - they value looking inwards. He's a great inspiration as always, a genius.

I had the pleasure of watching Saul Williams last night in Manchester.. His live show is phenominal.. if you can see him do. This man is stellar.
First, he appeared in the documentary SlamNation as a charismatic and brilliant poet. Then, after that fame, more fame followed with the film Slam. This was all pre-Myspace.

I know. He is such a cool artist and performer!
It hurts that someone so powerful is so slept on... Saul is able to push forward while remaining true because, like he says, he started be exploring himself--which is just not done enough today. He understands hip-hop organically, internally... and he understands the power of the spoken word the same way, so he CANNOT just put bullshit together under the banner of hip hop. He wouldn't be real to who he is. He's just learning from Reznor the same way DJs and producers learned from the JBs.
Wow! What he said from 1:10 - 1:30 with the wells, really blew my mind. He's such a great inspiration source.

Saul has to be one of the geniuses of music today. It's sad that his level of intellect doesn't appear in normal music artists these days. Music would be much better off if it were.

A friend and I picked up this man from the airport when he came to perform for a benefit at Brandeis. Why is it that whenever this guy's name comes up, smart people are saying he should be more well known? He should be! Why is he only known by conscious people? That saddens me. He is so important and uplifting.

@IAmJonesty i didn't say i don't understand saul's purpose or statement of interest. he is a fighter and a poet. some things are meant to be sung, and he is waging war on the ignorant. i feel it, but it's not the beginning of a revolution.

Sometimes when people of high intellect are thinking of what words to say, they almost become overwhelmed with thoughts and ideas as to how to convey what your thinking, and feel, into words. I'm sure Saul had a moment of introspect to find that word to describe what he was doing with his album, which I'm sure is difficult to arbitrarily label something for him, and that word was interesting. This is probably all in vain because someone like yourself would not understand what I am talking about.
well he has never mentioned The last poets though to my knowledge, acknowledged their influence. that would be one negative comment. or the black rock coalition of the 90's. Hopefully he gets to work with people from tackhead & living colour, at least doug wimbish on bass.
@theradioboxer what i'm trying to say without sawing you with my blade, is that vocabulary, conciseness of self-statements and self-expression.. that is something you must understand. People do not expand their word bank merely to bounce their checks... so to speak.

After hearing a white girl tell me she thought "Niggy" was a cute name, I have a hard time getting behind this guy.
There are other pieces he's done that I get. I also was a Rezner fan. But I don't get the "niggy" thing. Yea, I've heard of Iggy Stardust....but that makes his talking to "originality" that much more of a contradiction.
