  • Making masking tape flat patterns is an INCREDIBLE tool to have in your fabrication toolbox. We're using the technique here to build a puppet, but the same process can be used for costume design, prop building, and more.

Love it! Great video. To the point and I love how it is silence while you build. No retro or techno music lol I also love how you credit people at the end.

Thank you! It's always a tricky thing to know if we should underscore build montages. Sometimes the silence feels like dead air, but when we watch tutorials with terrible music it's overbearing.

Very cool. Are you thinning your Contact Cement to get it in the sqeeze bottle?

Thanks! I didn't thin in here. If it sits too long (in the bottle or an opened can) it'll thicken up, but you can thin it again by mixing in acetone.

I have a question. Since I´m not going to use fleecy or fabric to make te skin, I wonder if the pattern will work the same if it is enssambled with the markings in the inside.

Good question! As long as you don't have any bevel cut edges (which we talk about in our Advanced Patterning video) you can keep the markings on the inside to keep the outside cleaner.

How do you create the skin for this? do you use the same pattern for the fleece too?

You might be able to skin it using the same pattern you create for the foam (adding a little extra for seam allowance), but most of the time it's smarter to use a sewing technique called "draping", using a similar fabric to what you'll ultimately skin it with.
