- Stephen King's Holly is, by and large, a really well-crafted new mystery novel from the King of Horror himself, Stephen King. But there is one aspect of Holly that has gotten under my craw.
In this sort of Holly Stephen King review, I take on something that's been bugging me since I finished the book.
Holly Gibney is clearly one of Stephen King's favorite literary characters, and he writes her in such a loving and careful way, it's hard to find anything to chirp about. But something in the book has, so far, driven me a little nuts.
If you're a diehard Stephen King fan or just someone who digs great books, be sure to watch until the end and comment below. The Stephen King Holly thing is really making my literary year, though.

In the novel A Widow for One Year by John Irving, every major character is a writer. Ruth Cole grows up to be a writer, we read about how Eddie O'Hare becomes a writer from being a writer's assistant; Ted Cole is a children's author, and Marion Cole becomes an author by the pseudonym Alice Sommerset. Every main character is a writer in that book.
In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with setting the story amidst a community of writers. Then again, I'm a manic King fan and I'm a writer.
I think that’s fair. I don’t dislike the book-in fact, I thought it was really cool!-but that aspect of it really drove me a little nuts!
This is what annoyed you?
King is overrated.
