You do have to observe in order to describe...describe will happen almost automatically after observing. Its almost impossible not to. If we move too quickly into describing we are potentially not going to describe accurately...it's like you have to notice before you can put words to it. Observe skill helps to sort of train the mind to not have to immediately tag additional information the mind has based on prior experience. It can help to slow the speed with which we arrive at judgment or assumptions. At some point its helpful to recognize that we are often observing our thoughts since we aren't consciously generating all of our thinking.
