You know more about the car than I do, but I wanted to address the "engine is old" comment. "Old engines" have had all the kinks worked out. "Old" engine designs are going to be inherently more reliable than when they first came out and were new. Older engine designs will have had time to mature, and more aftermarket support will exist for the mature engine designs. Brand new engines take time to have performance modifications come to market.
