    Very cool. I find when knob-turning on my Brute I wind up wasting a lot of time just playing with the sounds before I actually get to making music, which is fun. I can't imagine what I'd do with 2 of them....okay, maybe I can...

      I do that on all my gear all the time, its amazing how many hours you spend messing around with sounds that are brilliant, doing a few tunes and not recording anything then realising you've had no food and its time to have 3 hrs sleep before work :D

    Awesome sequencing. In my opinion, all it needs is a drum machine. But, creating percussion sounds in a synthesiser is very creative. That's what I love about a good synthesiser: If you can imagine it, you can create it.

    Well done. Shows off the versatility of the brute very nicely.

    5:09 DUUUDUEEE that sounds amazing!
    have already got one brute, and a few eurorack modules so far. I think getting a second one would be a fantastic investment!
    Thanks for the video!

    lol that pause near the end of writing the percussion sequence, if you're anything like me that pause was to count the number of steps I've already entered.

    Your synths are pretty :D I wanted the white as well as the slate but had to pass on one, so I went with the slate. That look won my heart first, back when the mini was announced. Still, if I won the lotto...

    Two questions: 1) Can you control the octave/pitch on the minibrute that is receiving the pitch cv input? For example, could you adjust the octave with the octave control button for the keyboard and set a different pitch by selecting the note from the keyboard? I've seen something like that done with the minibrute, 2) At 10:11, you set the envelope so that it essentially functioned like a gate. Could you have just set the VCA to gate and used the second envelope to control the filter?

      1) If there is a way of doing that, I haven't found it yet - it would definitely be a useful option. 2) Yes, that would probably have made more sense - and indeed that should free up an extra envelope which could certainly come in handy!

    That two octave higher thing? I still get that when connecting my 2 MicroBrutes via Pitch and Gate. I have them both on the latest 1.04 upgrade and they still do it. C’mon Arturia. Sort this out cos 2 micros are amazing.

    Great video, i have a question... how sequencer sounds without pressing a key (without computer)?

    • @synthotronic
      @synthotronic  9 років тому

      At 00:23 you see me put the sequencer into "play" mode, so then you are hearing the sequencer playing.

  • @wheniplay

    I use the bruts too. How do you get them to trigger without touching a key?

    • @darkwave22
      @darkwave22 9 років тому +3

      If you connect it via USB to your computer and use arturia's controller application you can do som additional settings for the microbute. One of the settings is a a latch setting for the sequence so you don't need to hold a key down for the sequence to play.

    Can you explain what the differences between the Microbrute and the Microbrute SE are (apart from the colour)?

      Synth is the same, but you get a couple of stackable patch cables instead of the standard ones that come with the original version.

    I really want to learn to play synth. Where does one go to learn what each knob is and what it does?

    • @synthotronic
      @synthotronic  9 років тому +4

      Konrad X Different people learn things in different ways, and I'm sure others can make plenty of alternative recommendations, but my suggestion is that you get hold of a simple subtractive synth like a MicroBrute (or a software equivalent on iPad or Mac/PC) and just play with it to see what you can do. Whilst you're doing that you can read up subtractive synthesis (just google it and check out some articles) to get an understanding of what it is you're doing. I think that would be the best starting point.

      I just bought the MicroBrute and have no prior experience with synthesis. Between playing with it and reading the short intro section from the included book I put together my first pattern and had a total blast. the wide range this thing can crank out is just amazing. the bonus is, it's made to be played with, to explore and discover what things do.
      one thing I really want to know is how do you play the recorded pattern on endless loop without holding down a key?

    • @synthotronic
      @synthotronic  9 років тому +1

      +T Hughes Download the MicroBrute connection software - that enables you to change some settings e.g. the one which enables you to keep the sequencer going without having to keep a key held down. www.arturia.com/microbrute/resources

      +Konrad X Choose carefully (watch plenty of synth demos on you tube!)and then enjoy playing around with sounds in an instinctive way. Manuals help but once you get a synth you will enjoy finding and creating your own sounds.

      I've given your comment a lot of thought. This video has been here for several years, and quite a few people seem to have found it interesting and/or useful (and presumably continue to do so), so I'm not keen to remove it. Re-editing it is not an option as I no longer have the original footage, and UA-cam does not allow video files to be replaced anyway. Use of shades of colour to represent meanings has been around a long time, quite possibly for as long as mankind has existed. Lord of the Rings by Tolkien contains many examples of the use of dark colours to represent evil, e.g. "the forces of darkness", "the dark lord", "the black gate", "black speech", etc., etc. Perhaps if there comes a time when Lord of the Rings is completely rewritten for this reason, then that would be the time to remove this video. I hope that all makes sense. Cheers.

      @@beatsbylanstarr 'I would wager that colour coding as meaning doesn't affect anyone directly, not within this context.
      The idea of black being something to mistrust or seen as evil originally came from our fears of what we couldn't see when the sun went down. This paranoia of the unknown transfered onto fear of 'the other' and various caricatures have been granted life out of this irratonality.
      Two keyboards on UA-cam really isn't going to transform anyone's life.
      Campaign to put more black history in schools so we get less people growing up with a skewered sense of history. Less potential contributors to the current systemic racism in our courts, media, schools and yes, police institutions, but hey, keyboard colours are a low barometer to aim your missives, as well intentioned as they may be.' - John Clay
