With very hard water, after it is softened, what happens to the calcium in the water? Where has it gone?

Hi, So I have a borehole on my property located in South Africa. I did a full lab test on the water. It seems that it has a very high hardness of like 520 mg/L of CaCO3. The sodium content in this water is 320mg/L which is considered high. THis is before any filtration or softening. I approached two different companies and they stated that because the sodium is already high in the water it will cause some of the ionic beads in the softner vessel to release the calcium and magnesium molecules that was exchanged in the previous ion exchange cycle.. So basically a close loop where it would exchange some sodium for magnesium and calcium but later it echanges back and the magnesium and calsium would return into the supply water going into the house. So basically they told me its not really posible to soften the water with a water softner and the best would be to look at reverse osmosis.. Do you agree with this statement regarding softner systems for hard water with high sodium content?

Wash your a cotton hand towel in your kitchen sink then hang it outside to dry in the sun. Wash another hand towel in a gallon of distilled water and hang it outside in the sun to dry . If the towel washed in the house water is stiff after drying unlike the distilled then you have hard water.

Geyser water is the kind of water commonly called "hard water" - rich in dissolved minerals.
