Hello Fernando, my name is Jennifer Kranjec. I was hoping to get in touch with you. I am a theater make-up instructor with C/MU College of Make-Up Art & Design in Toronto, Ontario. We are currently building lesson videos for each segment of the theater portion of the student programs. Chinese Opera is one of the lessons that we teach at the college. We are working on a Chinese Opera video lesson at present to teach the students about the history and traditional make-up. I would like to ask if we may rip segments of this particular video as the make-up application in your video would be of great interest to the students at the school and is well presented. The completed lesson videos will have complete credits at the end of each modual. Any help you could offer would be so greatly appreciated. Thank-you for your time, and I hope to hear from you soon.
Hello Jennifer. It's OK to me, you can rip any segment as you want, but after the work, please tell me something about your video, as I would like to inform the opera group. Thanks.
Fernando Nascimento Thank-You so much! We appreciate this so much! The video is in the making at the moment, and will not be completed for some time yet! At present, we are updating our class presentations and lessons, and making things more digitally inspiring as it is something that the generation coming into the school seems to relate to best. Because we teach make-up at our college (which the students will receive a diploma when their course is complete), we feel it important to actually show images of the REAL make-up that is actually in use for stage. The video will cover a brief history of Chinese Opera and where and why it is performed. We teach about the colors of the make-up and what their meanings are, as well as the religious respect in which the performances keep as a key element to where the operas are performed. The students learn precision line work in practicing these types of make-up. Also, the video will give a history of the evolution to the origins of Chinese Opera, and to the lives of the performersin the past and of today. Not to mention the type of characters and the color use to suggest the personality ie/ white nose is jovial. We will also cover the products that were used in the past and to how they have changed for today's use. The costumes, the wigs, beards and headdresses are also addressed. Our school teaches many subjects that begin in hair, then fashion, theater, film, special effect and then creature design. This video will solely be a part of the theater departments curriculum and will not be handed out to the students, but watched on the Chinese Opera lesson day of their course. After the video has been watched by the class, any questions are answered, and the instructor will do a demonstration of a make-up for the class to then practice. The students often find a lot of inspiration for their school photo shoot ideas from Chinese Opera, and it also shows how in today's fashion industry and movie effects can pull inspiration from this area as well. If you would like to know more about our school, here is a link www.cmucollege.com/ I hope that I have answered some of your questions, I just want to say Thank-You once again, the use of this video is so greatly appreciated!
