You cannot go wrong with a 172/182. The Honda is another great choice. The Clio is a cracking car and the RS has epic handling, plus it is cheap to run and easy to fix. Just watch out for rust on the sills and arches. I've had many Clio's (still got a Williams and a Ph1 172 :) ).
Had my 182 for nearly 18 months now and I've loved every minute. The steering feels shit because the wheel is too big, I've fitted a 330mm wheel and was blown away by how much it improved the steering feel.
Had my 172 on a 52 plate since 2009, had it garaged from January 2011 to September 2019 and has just not hit 42500 miles. Mine is iceberg silver and standard look on the outside with Piper Cross induction kit and Magnex exhaust system. havent done any other mods as im 43 years old and it does enough for me to be happy. Cracking little cars if you find the right one like you said.
Have had a 172 now for 11 years and it has had its ups and downs and running an older car as a daily can be a little costly and it hasn't been without problems it spent 19 months offroad due to s#!t french electronics and old wiring but the second you get back in a renaultsport clio after being without it for a while you remember what it was that made you love that car in the 1st place yes there are definitely some cooler/better hot hatches out there but for me and many renaultsport clio fans out there its the sheer amount of fun the thing is to drive on any riad /track that makes up for the crappy plastics disintegrating interior and shoddy french electronics
Was comsidering ep3 or this for my first car and also ended up in a Monaco Blue 53 plate 172. :) interestingly i chopped it in for an mx5. I put a ktec exhaust on it too but it had an oem cat and a big resonator from powerflow. Sounded nice and not too loud
I was looking at these about a mouth ago just couldn’t find a decent one for my budget unfortunately ended up getting a 2009 Mitsubishi Colt ralliart ever look back since.
These are very expensive here in Slovakia for some reason. So you can either buy a Clio or a BMW E39 530i 😂 yeah, I know which one I'd rather have, because the bimmer is sitting in my garage.
I own a dci version of these, and the handling on it is simply God Level. The RS is now my dream car, hopefully I'll be able to import one really soon, cause I love the way that F4R engine revs the hell out of itself!
I'm currently thinking about one of these or a Pug 306 1.8. Reliability is my main focus when it comes to French cars, expensive to repair in Australia
Being a French guy who's owned a 1.8 16v 306 and who's now the happy owner of a 2002 clio 172, what I can tell you is... those cars are totally different. Yeah, the 306 is lighter but the engine is muuuch calmer. I'd say the 306 is more reliable. But the question here, is: do I want a hot hatch or a normal hatchback?
I think it's defo a different type of car, much heavier and smaller engine. In terms of performance I think the 172 is leaps and bounds further personally.
@@StraightUpHippo Yep, I'd add that sure you can find more powerful cars than the clio out there. But this is a sports car. On B roads, you can drive very fast in corners.
First time I hear someone say the Clio 182/172 steering is vague! These cars have amazing steering? Check your suspension bushes and maybe get decent tyres
Audi s3 8l the first generation of the s3 made until 2003 very mechanical felling compared compared to the new ones, and head of its time ,same price point as your Clio

nah i second this. No matter what else other people in the car community upload, I will always click on Cam's videos first
Appreciate the love boys 😭🥰

You know a resonated exhaust is quieter than a non resonated exhaust mate
Man this brings back memories! I had a Black/Gold 182 about 12 years ago. Still one of my most loved cars.
Got to love a decent hot hatch Cam, good to see you again on here

Spot on regarding older vs newer cars, they don't make 'em like they used to. Applies to supercars as well as hot hatches....
I just bought one and am counting down the days till it arrives
Have fun man! 🙌

Same as mine Monaco blue, Needs some genuine 172 wheels on there or 172 cup wheels and a cup spoiler makes it more sexy. Awesome to drive

Hi
I brought a seat Leon fr MK2 stage 1 remap very good handling car cannot lie
Hi
Well worth considering a 172 Cup over the standard version. Much more on it and set up for handling. Much more fun
"The steering is vague as shit" lmao

No need to pay £5k for a nice EP3 tbh if you want to try one. I sold my Cosmic Grey 2005 one for £4k last summer. Had 128k on the clock.

Hi mate, just wondered if you still have the car and if you’ve had to spend any more on it? Thanks
Long gone and apparently a fortune was spent on it by the next owner lmao
my one is a bit louder but it is only weekend car :) couse it cost me a bit more :D even with tose extras :P
Needs some turinis and a steering wheel scrub lol or a nice refurb via royal steering wheels 😎😉😂 oh and a splitter 😂

Audi a4 b5 1.8t quattro. Yes it is a bit bigger but it is just an all around perfect car that can do it all.

Hard to believe it's already been a full year now
Hi
Here in France, an average 182 is 10 grand
Mad!
YESSSSSSIRRRRRR
Hi friends
The engine doesn’t need to come out for a belt change! WTF🤷🏻♂️
First time I hear someone say the Clio 182/172 steering is vague! These cars have amazing steering? Check your suspension bushes and maybe get decent tyres
I had new powerflex bushes and PS3s all round. Nothing to do with my suspension/tyres, it's just vague 😅
@@StraightUpHippo weird! What about sway bar bushes and tie rod ends?
Must be something wrong. My 182 is really sharp.

Manly car thats all :P
What’s it like after being a chav for a year
Fuckin sick mate
I'm thinking of the 172 any one gets 40 mpg if so is that true 😉
Who takes engine out to do the belt 😂
