Jack, the drill on the front of the ship is 99% probably for ramming. This is because drills don't take impact damage so that they don't get damaged while mining. Meaning if you mount the prow of your ship with one, it'll reduce the amount of damage your ship will take from the initial impact, while the other ship will bear the full brunt of it.
They do get damage, but they do reduce taken damage, it depends on speed of the collision, I have collided with a voxel and drills on at 100 and destroyed half the ship, dis the same under 50 km, and got almost no damage, without the drill I would take damage doesnt matter the speed That s why some large missile include drills and wheels in the project, to abuse damage reduction in the missile side and increase penetration
the drill is one of the best blocks to place where it has been placed, that my friend is not for resource gathering, it may be able to, but that is not the intension, drills have the best collision tolerance, that my friend is the bayonet of this weapon of war
One thing I would love to see on videos like this, is you attempting to pilot those ships after damage has been done, to really feel how much dmg was dealt, its easy to look and think lots of dmg was done (and vice versa) but it could have entirely missed key systems and or hit the connections, entirely crippling the ship, and its hard to know that just by looking, (I mean that ship was doneso by shot 2 after the bridge was hit but still)
I can see the use of the ship in pvp. But a big downside is all those Railguns with there long reload, but props for the repair spacing on the outside, very important for after combat. Get a pack of these together and it’ll be dangerous to just about anything that can’t keep up with them. Worth nightmare in this would be other frigates tho.
Might be a good idea to add some programing to switch between staggering the railgun shots and having them all fire at once. Give the ship some rapid firing as an option basicly. One railgun shot per click till they are all on cooldown.
All show and no go. I've fought this ship twice on a Keen NA server and won both times in unplanned pvp. I was in a 600 ton 5.3k pcu ship with one rail gun, 2 artillery guns and 2 assault turrets. I took this ship apart both times. I was in my Toboggan. Look up Toboggan Mk. II 5248 on the workshop.
first thing rip off the large hydro thrusters and replace them with smalls. will drastically make the ship better. plus the added room from using the smalls gives you room for reactors to charge the rails faster and could add more cargo for ammo.
A small change that would make the railguns more dangerous is to fire them in sequential using a timer block, which would also allow it to put more pressure on an engagement over time.
I have a similar destroyer class ship. Lighter on the railguns, using a larger artillery barrage for faster firing and more volume. May not do as much damage as a single railgun strike, but has a much higher hit probability. I also have to wonder about the staying power of this ship. It's using a TON of big hydrogen engines to move itself, and it does not seem to have that much fuel capacity. It's a good looking ship, and could be pretty damn dangerous, but once you have fired off your railguns you are more or less going to have to try and play keep-away until you can fire again. It is fast, it is agile, but unless it can put a lot of rounds down range it will only really be useful against very slow ships.
This thing is the reason I adopt the philosophy of if you can see a component ad an extra layer of armour. This is also the reason I add redundant systems
Heya, Jack. Just wanted to ask, what order should I watch all of your Colony playlists in? (that is, colony survival and lost and wars yk) I'm kinda confused, too much shit for my monkey brain-
The drill is most likely filling a role of a bumper. Drills take very few damage from collisions. Why would you want to ram people with a friggate? That's a very good question
I printed this ship twice in survival and am about to grind it down a second time - it is just too much of a glass cannon to survive messy fights. There is way too little armor and redundancy (esp for conveyors) and the critical components are all massed close together. Sure, its fine for a 1vs1 as the frontal protection is decent enough and it has good manouverability but if a secondary enemy outmanouvers you, a modded AI enemy spawns above or below you (bc esp. multiplayer servers can be like that) or another player gets a shot from below or above its basically game over. A single arty/ rail hit in the middle can take out the cargo container and/ or conveyour system aswell as the side thrust. An arty hit at the back can rip apart both 2 out of 4 up/ down thrusters and take out the conveyor system to one of the nacelles at the same time. Since trying to repair the ship takes longer than simply grinding it down and reprinting it (and field repairs are quite hard due to the cramped interior) leaving out the assembler+refinery to rely on another ship for these to give some space and weight to armor up key areas wouldve been the better design choice - not every ship has to be self-reliant. Splitting up the cargo into several small containers distributed in different areas and adding more redundancy for the conveyor network would be important aswell.
I think the drill is to stop crashing destroy your ship because drills have the most impact resistance in the game With that logic the ship would also be very good at ramming
The ship doesnt have enough integrity to survive ramming, a collision at maybe 40 m/s is enough to destroy the interieor beyond the railguns (dont ask me how I know :') )
I got a 25 rail gun , large grid terminator, 5 rail guns in front of another 5 rail guns, in front of another 5, etc etc. cuts a ship in half or outright delete what it hits. Lol
Honestly the biggest change I would make is finding a way to incorporate a second Jump drive onto this ship. One drive to jump in and ambush an enemy ship and shoot their engines and the second to escape before they can muster a significant retaliation. A small fleet of these things with this configuration would tear into any ship they encounter.
All well and good until you try use it in multiplayer and find the desync is so bad your railguns dont even line up with the direction your facing lmao
Hey captain Jack! Is it possible to fire missiles out of a railgun? Guided rounds to turn big railgun ships into space artillery is what I'm suggesting and frontliners are their spotter. So many diabolical ways vent........... cheers 🤗☕
The design gave me some nice ideas. Not the weapons. This was the least interesting part. The shape, thruster casings, size, living quarters... The whole ship was well build and very well planned. A tribute to efficiency and balance. A low-cost package to deliver high cost results. Impressive
😂 I used to kill your ships all the time when i played. People don't understand your ships are sets for your series. Not pvp ship. Essentially its a prop
That is no frigate. That's a destroyer, plain and simple ship killer. ❤
It's a destroyer class frigate.

@operationangel7940 the ideal class, so long as it has good enough evasive capabilities. Or drones
A destroyers job is anti-aircraft.
The person who made the interior really knows what takes priority.
This is definitely a survival pvp ship. Meant to be self reliant, while using a dodging style of fighting. Full practicality with good looks. Love it!

I suspect the drill is for ice, since the ship runs on hydrogen.
or battering ram as well
That is the frigate to missle conversion tool... i.e battering ram.
or ramming, drills take like 0 collision damage
Could replace it with a grinder to scavenge its kills for parts if the pipes do run to it.
@@jacobc3266 That was what I was thinking. Swap the drill for a grinder and you got an excellent pirate/salvage frigate.
this ship follows the spin-to-win meta, which is to railgun your enemies while spinning and use your upwards thrusters to dodge incoming railgun shots
I reckon this is gonna be implemented into the RWI fleet at some point in the future
"It isn't just sticking two thrusters to the side and hoping for the best"
The Dr Craz School of Ship Design would like to have a word or two
Those are ships? I thought they where suicide sleds.

Truly an impressive and terrifying vessel to be seen on any server for both its allies and its enemies

definitely like the design, in future with railguns i would love to see the mayhem caused by a bow to stern shot [front to back]
1st and wouldn't drill be used as battering ram ?
I can see the use of the ship in pvp. But a big downside is all those Railguns with there long reload, but props for the repair spacing on the outside, very important for after combat.

If you could, you could probably set up burst fire so you have more than one shot in case it misses. Seems like quite a good Frigate.
Those bottom thrusters are probably to make it excel at spin to win. That thing probably gets into a death spin really fast and makes big circles
This ship is the definition of a glass cannon.
having a compact structure is fine but a tube through the centre so you can repair stuff is probably a good idea.
Ah, the glass cannon strategy. This is a hit and run specialist if ever I saw one.
for the cost, that ships pretty good, cant take much of a hit but yk, wont take much to build another
I love the thruster pod on that thing. One of my favorite features of the ship.
I like the ship design already
Looks like the bow of a modern/futuristic Battleship only in space.
first thing rip off the large hydro thrusters and replace them with smalls. will drastically make the ship better. plus the added room from using the smalls gives you room for reactors to charge the rails faster and could add more cargo for ammo.
reminds me of the separatist frigates from star wars, which had disproportionately large front-facing cannons for a ships of their size.
Recusent class was one of the most famous
Also nice pfp
Jack, put this in the Colony series as an RWI sniper. Just throw on some of your PDC's and 1 missile launcher (guided)
P. S: I'd also recommend throwing in a few ions for more speed as a hard hitting ship and throw in some retractable landing gears
A small change that would make the railguns more dangerous is to fire them in sequential using a timer block, which would also allow it to put more pressure on an engagement over time.

In a competent combat setting, this thing won't be doing any size class punching, but it will be pretty viable at it's own size class
Cool beans! Possible RWI Defiant for the future SE productions? 🤔
The drill is also for ramming since drills are very impact resistant, so you can do more damage before your ship is disabled.
This thing is the reason I adopt the philosophy of if you can see a component ad an extra layer of armour. This is also the reason I add redundant systems
The drill could be for ramming as it means the weapons wont be damaged or it could be so the front of the ship comes to a sharper point
I'm a little disappointed you didn't try to cut that entire rear section clean off, Jack. Looked ripe in that design for a one-shot bisection.
Footage Crate Asset spotted
If you used a timer block, could you make an also sustained rate of railgun fire?
That is a thing of visceral beauty.
Very cool also excited for the colony series ❤
That is a legit fast speed & and unique ship :O
The shot from the ship in the thumbnail looks like it fired some BIG A$$ THRUSTERS instead of railguns
Heya, Jack. Just wanted to ask, what order should I watch all of your Colony playlists in? (that is, colony survival and lost and wars yk) I'm kinda confused, too much shit for my monkey brain-
That drill is for ramming speed!
The drill is most likely filling a role of a bumper. Drills take very few damage from collisions. Why would you want to ram people with a friggate? That's a very good question
The drill is because it doesn't deform on ram. Higher base HP than a regular block, so you can bump without it turning your nose into confetti
Drill is for ramming, they don't take impact damage... at least not as much but they sure as hell can deal it...
I think the drill at the front is for ramming. 'Cause it doesn't deform when damaged
I printed this ship twice in survival and am about to grind it down a second time - it is just too much of a glass cannon to survive messy fights.

People use drill heads for missiles maybe it's for the "mad captain" move thrust the ship into the enemies then gut it
What mod are you using to give the range to target?
The drill is probably a spur for ranking into other ships.

Are there bigger railguns, in the game?
Now this is awesome 😎
All the hydrogen thrusters probably takes a bit of ice easy refuel from ice asteroids
The biggest thing though is your enemy in a public server wont be staying still
Very attractive ship.
I really hope in the next warfare update they do they add sheilds or a drastically improved armor
Might consider turning sideways for your shots next time. With such a wide are of effect, it could cut a thin ship like that in half.
Noted!

Hi is there a NX 01 in space engineer
The skybox in this Video is beautiful, what is it bc i want it
This ship design only works against ships that don’t have anyone manning them… the target you shot at took 32 rail gun shots and is still operational

Get a timer block set the rails up for a ripple fire.
Nnnnno eight railguns is about right. Personally I'd go for ten, but hey, overkill is underrated.
thats a ship killer
that looks like a pain in the ass to build
