  • Malaysia has a new leader. After years of being an also-ran, Anwar Ibrahim has finally taken the top job in government. Coming out through a vote of confidence with flying colours, he has beaten back a challenge by rival Muhyiddin Yassin.
After the results of GE15 returned a hung parliament, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has pulled together an alliance between his coalition, Pakatan Harapan, and bitter rivals, Barisan Nasional. Will the unity government find a way to work together and last a full-term in office?
At the same time, the November elections marked a decline of UMNO. With a clear competitor for the Malay vote in Perikatan Nasional, what lies ahead for Malaysia’s grand old party?

I think he is building up the ground well.
    1) He gets Indonesia & Brunei support.
    2) He gets Malaysia Kings Institute support by regular visit them and having conversation.
    3) He gets Sabah & Sarawak support by rectify MA63, and now they are linking up Borneo development together with Indonesia & Brunei
By these 3 factors, DSAI is solid enough to have 5 years of career life with Borneo support, I've never seen other ex-PM treating both states Premier like a partner-liked as of now.
BUT, to unite whole Malaysia 5 years is not enough, like Jokowi in Indonesia only after 5 years the result will be seen. DSAI needs to be voted for another term in order for a great success of Malaysia.
He needs to win again in next GE, and the challenge still get BN to performing together, and to keep PN far right rising power in check. This is a more difficult task in political than managing the country

I strongly believe that PM Anwar is very capable to bring this government forward. He is no ordinary politician. He has a lot of knowledge and experiences, well recognized around the world and commands respect by his friends and foes. In a very short period of time since he took office, lots of developments in the political, economic and social arenas have been seen locally and globally as far as Malaysia is concerned. Malaysia cannot afford to be racially divided any longer. Malaysians need to move on in this digital era and modernization. Racial polarity must be seen as an added advantage, not as a dividing factor. Other countries in this region have moved on and developed rapidly, not to mention China of course. Failing to recognize this will make Malaysia soon become 'the sick man of Asia', a derogatory remark once attached to China painfully.

Now as a PMX a few of his actions run counter to his principles, so determining whether he is a great leader or not requires evaluating his actions, decisions, and impact over time.

The Malays being the majority plays a determining role in Malaysia’s democratic elections. In recent decades, with improving standards of living, significant if not majority number of Malays young and old have started to reject patronage and corrupt politics.
Malays have also become more conservative and adopting true Islamic practices such as daily prayers, zakat, abstinence from alcohol etc. Dr Chandra and the likes are not accurate to say Malays are just choosing PN just to reject UMNO. The further rise of conservative Islam just like in the 80s-90s when Malays started to wear Hijab is real and expected. Thus, any government of Malaysia must ensure they respect the needs of this large and growing majority for Malaysia to ensure Islam is a key pillar of the nation. This is possible to be done by ensuring careful balancing between Islam and more secular focus. Any less, the government will lose in elections.
Many Malays who voted for PH are also in this category. If they see PH ignoring Malay concerns and Islam, they will probably change their votes.
Acknowledging this is important for the survival of any ruling government.

Malaysia politics is very simple and clear. Without the Malays, no one can form the majority government. The root problem lies in the entitlement right of the Malays. Mahathir empowered the Malays hence he used to be loved by them. However he failed on his return as PM. A large group of Malay prefer a government that could prop them up to amassed wealth and power. They are willing to go with anyone that can fulfill their dream. PN is their choice now. Malaysia is not a merit based society because the people had been conditioned to privilege and entitlement. No matter how well Anwar performs as a PM, he cannot win the heart and mind of this group unless he is able to alter the thinking mentality of this group of people. This is not easy as their belief is deep rooted. In the next election it is either PN will win the majority or a hung parliament again if nothing is being done.
UMNO needs a charismatic leader who can convince and re educate the Malay people that Malay interest will be their number one priority. They need to shift the entitlement mentality to one of merit and recognition of their achievement instead of free hand out. Educating the people is extremely challenging I must say.

The balance of race is important to Singapore as well as Malaysia. It is just common sense and it adds the characteristic of that country. You do not want China to have equal number of Caucasian and Chinese or India to have more Chinese than Indian. Nobody should blame Malaysia for not having a Chinese PM nor should anyone blame Singapore for not having an Indian PM.
Birds flock with birds and sheep with sheep, it is nature and we should respect nature as nature.
Malay is not the major race of the world and so if they so wish to preserve their race, it is their prerogative. Respect people not only of their race but also their right to preserve their race. No race should be extinct in the name of racism.

The Malay rulers and the Malay people forced to acccept chinese and Indian who brought to the Malayland by the British. That is the basis that must and should be accepted by the non Malays. Muhyiddin clean? This is quite funny. The warlord in charge of Arau up in Perlis is one of those old UMNO warlords. Bersatu is just a bunch of old UMNO warlords that migrated over.I think what is absent from the discussion is how Zahid Hamidi dropping MPs resulted in Bersatu taking back these people and winning.
Furthermore, what is the most dangerous thing as discussed in this documentary perhaps is the young people the 18 to 24 year old support for PN. If you go and observe Permatang Pauh, Kulim, and many PH seats in Penang Kedah, the only phenomenon that explains why PN won is simply the young people want theocracy. The 20,000 increase in voters and PAS new 20,000 voters can't be explained any other way. Even seats in Melaka such as Hang Tuah Jaya reflect this kind of change.
And this is something for our policy maker in Singapore to go reflect, how do you protect the politics of Singapore from people who want a theocracy. Something to go absorb, and how does it affect our MFA? How we deal with a Malaysia that could potentially be a theocracy?

It places a huge responsibility on DSAI and his government to show and hopefully convince the majority that the nation is stronger working together rather than apart. If he walks the talk that he is with the people, he may succeed. A leader who scolds instead of motivates is no leader.

How come you don’t mention that during the negotiations after the 2022 election, there was an uproar in Sarawak when it seemed that the GPS leaders were willing to join Perikatan & PAS? It was mainly because of Pas. There was no way the majority of people of Sarawak would have accepted joining hands with Pas.
