Trolling? When something’s bad it’s bad
@Cs that’s cause I watched it 🤦🏻♂️ it’s awful cgi is bad
It’s trolls preventing people to get into the cinemas internationally…. Hahahahahaaha😊
We honestly don't need a Lion King prequel or a Gaston Le fou series!
We don’t need any of the Disney live action remakes, the animated originals are all better, so what the point?
Thank you, I think live actions adaptations should stay as it is, I even won’t go that far beyond beauty and the beast. Like we don’t really need a Moana, Tangled or Frozen adaptation, those movies are so culturally relevant to today standards they don’t need a new adaptation.
@@AlvaroIbacacheS Don't hold your breathe just yet. With how VFX/CGI technology has and continually develop, plus Disney's creative bankruptcy, we just might see them. Maybe give it a few decades or so (or maybe just years).
Have you heard about Moana live action rumors with The Rock?
I think if they do it right, find the right cast, and take their time with development. They should make a Sky High sequel and if that’s successful, turn it into a Disney+ series
Speak for yourself. I'm hyped for the lion king
It’s interesting how the media blames “trolls” as the culprits for the poor performances of movies rather than blaming Disney for its choices.
Being a trash like trolls and AntiSJWs is a choice. Angry AntiSJWs/Conservatives really got triggered when they saw The Little Mermaid got an A Cinema Score, comparing it to the Audience Rotten Tomatoes. Fun fact, even if you haven't watched the film anyone can still send a review, this is why Audience Reviews in RT aren't reliable. CinemaScore is rated from the people coming out of the cinema, aka people who watched the show not just angry AntiSJWs mad about a black little mermaid.
Yeah. They act like trolls can somehow control the opinion of the masses. Disney has just been mediocre lately
What choices ?
Disney's next choice will have to be much more carefully thought out. They can't keep overspending on IPs that don't have a solid fanbase.
@mikejunior211 you said it, disney did not promote the hell out of this movie. The little mermaid is a massive ip , should've easily made a billion. My theater didn't even have the big cut out 😂 🤦🏻♂️
People outside USA dont care at all bout representation... black people outside USA dont see a black actress and feel represented, they see an american actress that has nothing to do with their culture... me as a latino for example, i really dont care if they put a mexican actor as if he represents all latinos... simply because im not mexican... even if the actor is from my countrie, it would be just curious to see a familiar face in a foreign movie, but its not an important factor... and hollywood has the tendencie to ve a bit ofensive with the representation of foreign countries.... like the "Mountains of villa gesel" from x men... you are analizing global box office from an american perspective that is not quite correct...
From a perspective of someone who doesn’t live in USA, it seems like north americans only see black characters as representation and while that might work for them, that doesn’t resonate with the rest of the world. Edit: not to mention, the Disney live action doesn’t have a lot of nostalgia value for the fans of the original movie because older songs got changed, the movie isn’t as colorful and the side characters look strange as opposed to their cute 2D designs.
Wait, what are you implying people outside the USA see when they see a black woman?
@@lawrencescales9864 They see a black woman. Latinos, Asians, etc aren’t going to watch a movie just because a black woman is the lead. If the movie itself doesn’t interest them, then the main lead being played by a black actress isn’t going to move the needle.
@@paulaabelenda5867 do black folks see a movie just cause a black is the lead?? No they don't either so thank you captain obvious
Wait...so using that logic...the rest of the world sees a black character and then they don't go to the movies?
That's fucked.
@@sfdko3291 its fucked but also accurate. It was never gonna do well in Asia especially where Disney has even changing movie posters to make black characters look smaller. At least this will help Halle's career regardless though. Don't care how many more billions Disney wants, and these remakes are getting too much anyways.
Little mermaid is dead. Spiderman will be filling up movie theaters followed by transformers
And then The Flash.
This is a weird question, but how come “positive” review bombing is never mentioned in media? It’s only when a movie has to play defense the bombing comes up.
i think ypu know why a narrative is being pushed
There’s two factors:
1 positive review bombing it’s generally a new thing practically unheard of before this movie.
2. Verified sources as rotten tomatoes and cinemascore showed that verified movie goers did gave the movie a positive review so positive review bombing isn’t altering the audience review of the film.
@@AlvaroIbacacheS 3. Nothing you said was based on factual information.
Facts
@Justin Scro you make a good point haha
Encanto is an original creation that was well made and showed an authentic interest in the culture it represented.
But people still didn’t see it in theaters. 😂 It became popular because people saw it for free on Disney +.
Encanto came out during COVID. It was fine. Last original Disney movie that people could embrace. Coco was great. There have been great products. Infinity War and Endgame, anyone? But D Plus began a downfall. It was a business debacle. Better to license rights then to force yourself to produce more programming.
Well said
Seriously though... Did we ever have a real black traditional fairy tales? As in an African fairy tale? We got Mulan for Asian, Moana for Polynesian, Raya for South East Asian, Encanto for Hispanics, why aren't there African fairy tales?
Does Lion King count as an African fairy tale representation?
Encanto bombed in theaters, it’s success was when it went on streaming that’s when it became a juggernaut
So now the people that don't live in the US are also trolls because people didn't like it? Are you serious??? Are people allowed to have their own opinion? Let's try not to make up sh*it just to defend this movie at all costs.
Its foolish cause am from the caribbean and mostly ppl of colour live here n alot of us dont like the movie due to changes from the original...its only blk ppl in america are looking for representation in a mythical creature 🙄
People who don't like the little mermaid are not trolls. The audiences just dont like most of these remakes
Don't be intentionally obtuse, you are well aware that the review-bombing campaign is led by people who have not and do not intend to see the movie.
@@jayreed9370 And who TF do you think you are to culturally appropriate a European story and call it African??
@@jayreed9370 Lol and you think Europe and Asia wanted to see movies where you shat on their stories? Including Africanizing a European story?

I would think a 3rd world country would have better things to worry about like clean water and food. Opposed to a black Ariel. 😂

hearing akwafina sing already proves no one is trolling except the movie itself :)
To be fair, Awkwafina got her start after going viral for her (albiet trolling) song.
Grace needs to understand, the box office has totally changed since Covid. 95% of movies will not make more than 100 million on opening weekend.
Agree
To be fair it’s not just Grace who hasn’t realized this. It’s pretty unfortunate though. These studios primed general audiences to wait until these films are on streaming and now they’re reaping the problems that come with that
Right. I always get annoyed when she acts like a movie failed by comparing similar movies before the pandemic.
People seem pickier now. If the film is good, it should be able to coax people into seeing it on the big screen, like Top Gun 2.
If box office starts with a 5 it is a failure. Watch it drop like a stone.
I'm from Latin America and I don't think The Little Mermaid bombing overseas has anything to do with "trolling". The people who go to see these live action remakes want to see the characters look exactly like the ones they remember from childhood Grace. It's that simple.
Well, that's impossible because the original character was a cartoon.
Damn that’s pretty shallow no? To me, Ariel’s character was never about the color of her skin. When I think of the Ariel I grew up with I think of a sweet and adventurous princess with a beautiful voice who wants to explore the world above her. Halle perfectly embodies all of those qualities, and has one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard.
I think Hispanics have a complex about thinking they are white. Unfortunately for you, you can never be. It's that simple.

just because u disagree with the colour washing of the little mermaid does not make you a troll, its just a different opinion to yours , get over it
The Little Mermaid’s box office issues are a lot more simple
- a bad history of Disney live action remakes
- weak critical reception (reinforcing that the above continues)
- audience tolerability is at an all time low with a preparedness to just stream something instead
Audiences have been burned by these remakes and are likely seeking out a reason not to go and see this latest effort

@@edwinnavedojr That's not what a troll is at all. A troll is somebody that purposefully tries to make you mad and irritated in for their own amusement and laugh at your frustration. What about somebody who genuinely hates something and doesn't what others to support it either because they really think it's bad? Is that not a valid position to hold?
The only reason why this movie exists is because of nostalgia. If the main lead looks nothing like in the original, the remake loses some points. Hence the flop. If they had made Ariel a white blonde, it still would've been a stupid decision. Trolls have never influenced box office that much: just look at Captain Marvel movie, which had a more active hatedom
Captain Marvel was carried by Endgame IMO Until I see how The Marvels performs and if that does well I will gladly eat my shoes.

In Japan, I think the Aladdin remake performed well because Will Smith is a big Hollywood star - we all know him from Men in Black, Independence Day, Bad Boys, etc. However, Halle Bailey is an unknown actress here, and most Japanese don’t even know who Melissa McCarthy, Awkwafina, or Javier Bardem are…and according to the Japanese comments I’ve read, they are aware of Disney being PC. TLM hasn’t opened yet in Japan, but if there’s no big name attached to it I doubt people will go watch it unless they watch it with Japanese voiceovers.

@@sablestar1956 We need to speak more often about caste systems globally.
I think if The Little Mermaid performs somewhere between $70-80 million then that’s a huge success for the film and it’s possible because Disney live action remakes have overall performed much better in Japan than in China. It’s kind of crazy that Japan can either make or break the overall success of The Little Mermaid at the international box office. I do hope the movie does well over there. 🤞🏽
Plus this movie is bad
I don't want remakes of classics like the little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Lion King etc. They are perfect as they are. Grace you are giving the "trolls" too much credit and power maybe it was just the horrible marketing by Disney 😅

I dont get the billion dollar club obsession. The box office has changed since streaming and the pandemic. Most of these so called blockbusters arent making a billion. This isnt 2019. There is so much more to choose from and theaters are expensive. Just wait for it to go to disney plus. Most movies ARENT going to be avatar. And if anyone thought this was going to make a ton of money internationally then you are misguided. Black leads in movies dont do well internationaly 90%. Disney, mcu, dc or whatever unless its FF. We all know it and sadly know why! And most people in this comment section havent even seen the movie! 😂 go see it first then talk about how awful it is etc. But people like or love this movie. Audiences are fractured period now and im fine with that. Hollywoods needs to regroup and rethink broad appeal. Its going to be rare to get a movie where it appeals to everyone. The huge blockbusters will be here and there. The industry needs to change with the times.
The Little Mermaid was fine, but come on. The original is perfect as it is and none of the live-action remakes have any justification for existing.
I like the remakes
It's a different take on it. Like the Broadway shows, it doesn't take away or replace the original
@@e3vL1 Black washing and Africanization does take away
Adjusted for inflation this movie is easily underperforming and if it falls off hard next weekend like many believe it will, we'll be entering flop territory. Cope more.
I would have gone seen Little Mermaid pre-pandemic, but I've opened so many streaming service accounts during the last couple years... And with the economic uncertainty... I don't mind waiting a couple months to watch it from the comfort of my own home. And while the Disney live-action adaptations have been entertaining, they've all been pretty forgettable too. Last movie I went to the cinema for was Avatar, since I felt that was an experience made for it, contrary to watching it on my small screen lol.
“The trolls are hard at work globally”
As someone who watched the remake: cope and seeth grace, it was carbage
Muff cabbage
It was not that bad as you are making it seem. It’s definitely one of the better remakes
For me, the problem has been that Disney, once again, decides to force a realistic aspect onto animals that talk and sing, in a fantasy movie about a mermaid and a sea witch who turns into a kaiju. For me, this took away some of the magic that identified these movies, is a good movie but it could have been much better.
If your goal is to appeal specifically to a subset of 15% of the population don’t be shocked when it isn’t financially successful.
Not even going to Disney+ it.
Ok
Ok
I don't have Disney +. Get rid of it.

I'm not going to see the Flash because of Miller's off screen criminal activity and a company that thinks they will still get my money to support him. Not a chance.
Nonsense, his criminal records came out after the film was completed. What did you wanted them to do ? Reshoot it and spend over 400million on a movie that's already 200 million ??? Useless comment.
@truefranck they're not obligated to go pay and see their movie just cause they spent money on it. Obviously they're against Ezra miller's actions and don't take well to the studio's downplaying of them in order to try and make a profit
@@TripyHipster the studio already said they will no longer work with him on future projects.
@@truefranck not sure why that matters considering we're talking about the current project. Again, nobody is obligated to pay and watch anything, even when there isn't a big scandal attached to it
No chance for a billion. Won’t beat GOFTG 3. Little Mermaid had a mediocre weekend. It’s not trolls. Disney is doing an awful job. The trolls story is utter nonsense. Disney is putting out BAD products. Little Mermaid is a remake that’s almost a hour longer than classic. Disney should end with the nonsense remakes.
It's trolls
@Miss Lilith is it though? Something tells me the trolls probably weren't fans of the original.
@@JakobMahase_Bass-Baritone yes one need only see the unverified audience score on RT compared to the Verified.
@@c-bee2904 yeah but RT doesn't reflect box office numbers.
@@Iletyoulive No, its not its just a lazy narrative. The fast movie just did better than TLM and it s a very diverse cast and has been for a while. The Little Mermaid is a VERY female centric movie and always has been. Even the lead male role isn’t like Beast from Beauty and the Beast. It also doesn’t help that advertising is what was really unfortunate here. Idc how it ended up in theater it didn’t put its best foot forwatd
It's not the work of trolls, it's just not a movie appealing to everybody, sorry!
It is the work of trolls, people have been trolling on the movie since before it came out.
Word of mouth on the street is its a crappy long movie...
If it has high reviews and a low box office, it's not trolling. It means people who wanted to see it saw it. It's just that most people don't care about this movie. It was in the news for years. I think it was overexposed in the marketing, so that by the time it came out, the energy potential has already been expended.
This is why I hate movies being paused for a long time. They should have kept this movie as a HUGE secret until it was filmed and cgi and vfx were 47% done
RT is rigged.
The international numbers are way too weak for this to even have a chance at a billion. Why are we even discussing this? It’s over…
Yup. The real question is what will next weeks drop be. I'm predicting there'll be a six in front of it.

@@stevensantos9572 It's sadly looking like its going to have a 4 in front 😬
Because Grace is trying to will it to make one billion. Only employees of Disney act like this.
@aaa can it even reach a 4, look at June lineup. The only chance is if people decide to watch Mermaid instead of the Spiderverse
I know there are trolls, but sometimes a movie is just bad

In my country the big movie right now is Fast X. Even though it debuted last week it still has the most sessions in all cinemas
For comparison (in my city's cinema, which is very small compared to the ones in the big cities)
-The Little Mermaid has 4 sessions per day (3 dubbed, 1 original)
-Fast X has 10 sessions per day!
@@mikejunior211 BR é foda
Fast X made more outside the U.S. this weekend than TLM did internationally in its first week. TLM will far outgross Fast X in the U.S. but Fast X still has that global love. But Fast X was super expensive (like 340 million!).
Same here in my country
This movie came at a bad-timing. There is no denying that there is something called a culture-war going on, and that most people are annoyed by this culture-war. If for whatever reason a company makes something that could be interpreted as being part of this culture-war, then people are not going to see it. Mario stayed away from it by a mile, and was met with a lot of positivity. Disney however has actively engaged in this culture-war, and whereever you stand on the issues, it hurts them as a company, their products and brand-image. They have navigated these times quite poorly.
Alot of Cope in this video.
Ah yes the Trolls, the laziest excuse to explain the unpopularity of a movie, it couldn't just be that this movie is aimed at a particular audience (the parents and women) most grown men and guys are simply not gonna rush to see this and will probably never watch it, this category of people don't care about mermaids, is it so hard to understand.
Frozen did well.
2019 was such an odd year box office-wise. There were just sooooo many billion dollar movies that we started to think that was the new normal. I think it may have just been a fluke. We need to stop holding a billion dollars as the standard for success.
then the movie budgets have to be cut.
Little mermaid cost $250M apparently
A gross below $600M is not good.
It was a trend. COVID and the MCU being over (yes, it ended with Endgame) did a bit of a reset.
It is the standard for success specially with movies that have higher budgets unfortunately.
Agree! Especially when a billion dollars is a rare feat. 2019 was totally just a good year for tent movies and we were all happy to oblige.
@@DReppin2009 I mean, No Way Home deserves a seat at the MCU table, no?
