In Europe, this song has become a stadium song, almost like We are the Champions by Queen. It is often played to set the mood, e.g. before football matches.
I'm 57. Grew up on 80s music. Never heard of this song or this group, and I'm thankful because I thought it was horrible. Can't be lucky forever though.
@@mikeharris3733 "I don't know it, therefore nobody knows it, and it sucks anyway." Found the American. Guess what, the world is bigger than your backyard. Wow, you guys surprised me with this! Opus is a terrific 80s band from Austria. While they had a few hits in Europe, this was the only one that broke through in the US. The singer's name is Herwig Rudisser (don't ask me to pronounce it!). While we're on the topic of 80s one-hit wonders, I'd love to recommend "Tarzan Boy" by Baltimora, "Perfect Way" by Scritti Politti, "Hangin' On a Heart Attack" by Device, and "Obsession" by Animotion. One of those one-hit wonders that just didn't sound like anything else. The 80s was replete with such hits. This was one of those ones that both me and my mom both really liked, good memories.
Ohmygod! When I was travelling in Europe in the summer of 1985, this song was everywhere! I don't think I've heard it since. Thanks for taking me back to that time!
Listening to this song is one of my clearest memories from this time. We spent the summer of 85 at a lake in Southern Austria, I was 6 years old and I still remember how the lyrics sounded to me without understanding English 🙂
For everyone who likes soccer: this song is connected with the warming-up of Maradona. It's on UA-cam under Warm-up Maradona UEFA cup semi-final 1989. He dances a little along to this song performed by a cover band in the stadium. I think this song is still played during the Napoli warm-up. This video made "Live is Life" even popular in South-America.
I was in the Olympia Stadion that day for the semi final and over 60,000 fans were transfixed on maradona during the warm up, over 30 years later and it's still a great memory, game ended 2-2 , Napoli won on the away rules and then won the final Vs VfB Stuttgart in 1989 .
@@gerald1108 I read an interview somewhere that the Stuttgart players were supposed to be warming up, however, they were left standing still watching Diego warm up for 20 minutes. Lol.
@@mjwilliamdenman4170 they played Bayern in semi and vFb Stuttgart in the final , not sure if he did it in the final as well but I can tell you the whole stadium was transfixed on him , remember even now after he had finished looking around at everyone and we all just smiled, because we realised we had just seen something that nobody would ever forget .
My introduction to Opus was getting this album from a German friend in my last summer in 1985 Berlin, Germany before returning to the States to go to college. To this day this is at least a weekly go-to for me. Fantastic group! Try “Hands on the Air” from them. Also, for a nice treat react to Falco and Opus together performing “Rock Me Amadeus”.
Wow guys, you have once again transported me nearly forty years into the past with a sound that i had completely forgotten about. Back then, we thought that all music in the future would always move us the way these songs did. We didn't know back then that that feeling was just "One Moment in Time", and that the future would cast it away as garbage.
This group and the late singer-songwriter Falco did set a milestone on the Billboard Top 40 chart back in 1986. For the first time ever that two musical acts from the country of Austria hit the Billboard Top 40 chart at the same time. For the group Opus, this song was their one and only Top 40 hit in America. The song peaked at the #35 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the early summer of 1986. A great song indeed!!!
This was a real anthem, everyone sang along! I think it's a one hit wonder for this Austrian band. This year the lyrics really apply. All concerts have been canceled or postponed for two years due to the pandemic. Now everything can finally be "normal" again and we have something to look forward to. “When we all give the power, we all give the best. Then you all get the power, you all get the best. Every minute of the future is a memory of the past.” That's what (most) artists are all about, performing and interacting with the audience and giving them a good time they remember. Glad you liked the song!
Also a one hit wonder here in the UK. I liked it, it's upbeat and a great message. The eighties were so musically diverse. Much love from England 🏴
Another Austrian singer from this era who was pretty much a one hit wonder outside of mainland Europe with a true fire song was Falco with Rock me Amadeus. I think you will love that one too.
I disagree a little. In the german speaking area of europe (Austria, Germany and Switzerland), he had multiple hit songs. He was definitely one of the first (Ggerman speaking) artists doing something that used to become Hip Hop. RIP Hansi Hölzl.
