I have been working hard. Too hard. These videos have been a source of inspiration and solace. Sometimes people live out their true passion and their shared experience is a gift to those gathering courage to do the same. Float on...
Thank you so much
Your videos are always so calming and lovely! Thank you! Safe journey!
Thank you, Glad you like them .
You guys are amazing Ambassadors for this lifestyle. You're right about the Butterflies and wildflowers. With the restrictions, it just shows how the environment recovers. Keep your dogs cool during the heatwave x.
We just hope the is a permanent change for the better
Fran and Rich, It's not what you say but what you don't say that make your videos so special. The last three minutes as good as it gets. xx
That's lovely, thank you
Your videos and your lifestyle are so inspiring. I just love following your exploits. Another fab video thank you very much.
Thanks Richard, yours ain't bad either (mutual love-in society) :)
So relaxing. Made my Friday afternoon. Sat back with a coffee and imagined being out on the water. Thanks so much for the vlogs 😁
You're welcome
Thanks for another lovely vlog, good to see you're both doing well and the crazy doggies are having a great time. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Thank you Stevie, figures seem always too be happy wherever we are.
Hi Rich & Fran. A lovely vlog as always, thank you. As usual I am now going to be in impatient mode, as I was this last week, until your next contribution. I may have to start binge watching from the beginning again to satisfy my greed! I don’t do this with any other You Tube channels I watch! The leg seems to be holding up well Rich. Best wishes and take great care both. Stan
Ah thank you so much Stanley.Rich is doing ok,just slowly and surely improving.
Looks lovely 👌 enjoy watching there is a lot of nice people about willing to help when needed keep safe 😎🐾🍷
Ye, there are
Enjoying a cuppa and a slice of home made cake while watching your vlog, a perfect afternoon! Hugs from our family in Thailand 🤗
Sounds as though you have brought England into your living room
Thank you for another great vlog, I so enjoy them!
You are so welcome!
Excellent as ever. Keep them coming.
Great vlog, love the aerial shots of the waving sweetcorn crop. Amazing that hundreds of years ago men built canals with spades and a theodolite and now with all the modern equipment we have trouble keeping the water in ! Regards AJ
So true. We were saying exactly the same as we did this walk
Lovely vlog guys, as usual. I know what you mean about the towpath cutting, but there is an argument that says, the work has to be done at some point and the CRT are not letting it get on top of them? Generally speaking, the CRT do a terrific job. The odd compound cock-up, yes, but they have done some magnificent 'saves' - the Middlewich breach, for example.
The dogs really were a bit confused about all that "canal feature and furniture" and no water! Looking forward to the next.
We agree, the CRT generally do an amazing job looking after so many waterways and locks, but so much money is wasted on blanket strimming sometimes in remote areas where it is impossible to moor anyway. That money could be better used and the wildlife protected.
Thank you 🙏 take care ❤️
Thank you too x
You guys are starting to get the hang of this vloging business. Keep up the good work. The new boat is an exciting prospect. Cheers.
Thank you
Another lovely vlog! Pant = Welsh for hollow or valley
Unbelievable with that lawn mower at that hour of the morning my gosh peace and quiet broken!,not to mention upset the environment as u say.awesome video thank u .😇
It is true, but we were not really that bothered about the time, just what they were doing
I agree with about the loss of wildlife resulting from cutting the verges in summer. What would be the optimum time for cutting verges? I’m assuming they would need to be done at least annually to prevent saplings taking root and making mooring impossible?
I think the HS2 money would be better spent on 're-watering disused canals.
That is a great idea
yes and looking at ways of making them work again.
One gravel pit close to Denham lock on the GU is using the canal to move the aggregate, I think a planning condition.
That was such a nice vid guys, really was beautiful
Thank you
Good luck to you pair, and your vlogs reminds me of the neddy i bet on in NSW [Australia] called 'a Fablourlas Fran', it has not won a race in recent times, but has been placed several times.................................'Onya Fran...................... Cheers from down under!!
Oh, sorry it has not done better for you. I've never had any luck on the gee gees so maybe that's why?
@@FloatingOurBoat Well that's racing as they say................................Cheers guy's!
Great vlog as usual. You both bring peace and calm to us viewers.
The reason you have more undergrowth and so on along the canals is due to the enormous reduction in motor vehicle, aircraft, buses and trucks and narrow boat use. The skies are clearer and the oxygen levels are up at ground level. So, the plants suck up the CO2 and shove out oxygen which in turn attracts all creatures great and small. When COVID 19 is over, the plant life will return to the " bad old days " as the pollution increases again.
Tells us a story don't you think. Its interesting the coal, nuclear and gas powered power stations haven't slowed down ( they have increased production to provide extra power for all in the COVID 19 shutdowns ) so all the climate change proponents have got it wrong after all. Its the cars and buses, trucks and aircraft that are the problem, not a little coat burning power plant " up north ".
You may well be right. Let's hope some things don't go back to what was normal
Wonderful to see two lovely people enjoying their lives, take care.
Thank you so much
Passed those old boats on the Shroppie last week they were going like the clappers! 😂
Now you know why I was keen to get out of their way!
never seen so many butterflies this year xx
So many people are saying the same
Another great video- love them so much. Why do they close that lock at 12:00?
It is purely to converge water.mif everybody moves at the same time a boat can move up straight after one has moved down so you don't have to fill or empty a lock without a boat in it.
Hi there
I have sent a reply regarding the Osmo action via facebook messages.
Great video and I have signed the petition
"Where are we honey dog"? I think I may be watching too many of these narrowboat vlogs...nah. Lovely vlog as usual.
Smashing vid chums. Nice to meet you both.. hope rich is ok now👍🏼. So what do you think of the show so far?..lol.x
Nice to meet you too Gary. Rich seems to be ok again now. Did you go to the nature reserve?
@@FloatingOurBoat oh no ! Forgot about it until just now ...went straight up to the water point so we could get showers lol.. just been down the whixall arm..dont know if you have been yet?..worth it.. good moorings and walks.. the best to you both.
Wonderful
Hello Merry Ann Hope things are all OK for you in Minnesota xx
Great vlog. Love love the dogs, both if them but what breed is Jess she is a little darling!!!!!!
Jess is a patterdale terrier possibly crossed with a lakeland terrier. She is quite a character x
Nice t shirt
My my that canal is very narrow I hope there are plenty of passing spots.Hope Rich passes the walking test ok .Why would tha tlock be different to others and be locked up at times,is there a danger of willful damage or vandalism?
Great vlog as usual take care guys
Hi Ralph, it's only open at certain time purely to preserve water. Thanks for watching.
Mavics are cheaper on Wish!
Why do they lock 🔐 the locks up Fran is it to do with water 💦🤣
Yes it is to conserve water as this is a small dead end canal, it could easily be overfilled.
Why do the locks close and get chained up?
Pam Jones I believe there are two reasons. Staircase locks can be tricky, easy to cause a flood. Also the Monty is an unusual shape, high at both ends, so the water has to be controlled. (Based on what I’ve been told. I live about a mile from the end of the navigable bit)
re. the canal to Welshqool. I think they had some fun and games getting an SSSI lifted on a disused length that had held water and then when they got going restoring again some of the membrane they qut down didn't make a good enough seal so once the Covid restrictions are lifted they will be re-doing that bit. They also haven't got a fixed qlan as to how to get under the Welshqool by-qass which was built over it. But they do intend to get it restored all the way down to Newtown.
It will be wonderful when it is all open.
Was it stair- cake locks Fran ?, if so two slices please. Lovely vlog as per...
Ha ha, I think I had something else on my mind!
Great video. I really envy you two lovely folk and am looking to get a boat for myself. My videos show some of my efforts. Regards Michael
Good luck with your plans
Where do I know you both from :?
Esssex?, Norfolk? Herefordshire? or anywhere there is a canal?
😀👍🏼✅❤️
Shouldn't you have better things to do at the moment !!
This is part of our weekly staple viewing
Well if They didn’t cut it back I’ll be overgrown within a couple months
It just needs cutting much less often and only where it is really needed.
I’ll bet you a lot of people walk Or ride the topath will disagree
@@buddyhirshfield5970 we're on the side of nature. There was (and often is) absolutely no need for the towpath to be cut as there was at least 5 feet of useable path. But then why are they cutting it for those who pay nothing towards the upkeep of the system.
thank you Fran and Rich ... keep safe and can't wait for the next one
Thank you
I am 83 years, live in Michigan-USA, and I love your videos. I have watched every one in order! I so hope you are able to continue on a regular basis. I am waiting to see how you are doing with the virus and all. I am self isolating in my apartment, only go out for supplies, masks of course. Your life on narrow boat has been a wonderful time for me. I am also anxious to see new scarf on Etsy. I can only hope you are able to keep on keeping on!!
Hello Dora. Thank you so much for following us and for your comment. We are doing well here with the virus at the moment, but waiting to see what happens when the weather changes again! We hope you stay safe xx
Lovely country you are going through it looks great 👍
I know that you have probably heard this before, but the only canal you don't want is a route canal.
Fran, you look so pretty in yellow!!!! :) Your peaceful canal life looks wonderful to me! Wish we had that in the states!!! I really enjoy watching your videos. They bring me so much joy during these crazy times of 2020! Did Rich order a new drone? :)
Thank you so much Christy. Glad you enjoy watching. Rich is still doing the research into a new drone. They are a lot of money and he wants to make sure he gets the right one for our needs. X
I think that's kind of obvious Rich! The lucky randomly asks your wife about Wi-Fi and tells her about a drone? That's a good one! Hope you had luck with it!
Are you from Finchley or Grantham? Eaglegards...
Oi! It's a volunteer led restoration, working every weekend up til covid. working back from the isolated section, next two miles due to open with 12 months we hope
Thanks Alison. We know the volunteers work very hard. We will try to get to see the other end of the restored section on our return trip.
Oooh you narrow boaters are such a tease. The full
Monty indeed. Love your dogs too. They are so obedient. And love little Archie (I think) stealing the limelight having great fun rolling in the grass. You guys take care. Until next week 😀
Are people who live in Pant known as Pants or Panties! :-)
Love your vlogs, thank you. Take care.
pantaloons
They call people who don't live there pantless
And people who long to live there are panting. Sorry I couldn't stop myself.
You’re by far the best couple posting. You work together so well. Not competing against each other. Talking at each other like lots of others do👍🏻
Keep up the good work.
Great Video 🙏🏻 Fran & Rich.
Wow, thank you Michael
There’s one couple I have skip huge chunks as their constant competing against each other does my swede in (my autism I guess)
😂
Great vlog full of interesting fact, I am currently living near the Brecon and Monmouth canal, it’s such a shame we can’t link South and North Wales 🏴🍺 by water, might be quicker than by road. I know its all about money, but a shame that CRT cannot support some of the restoration projects. When I go for my daily walks I have noticed more wildlife about. Tonight I even picked my first wild blackberry’s, something I have not had since I was a kid, and now in my 5th decade.
It would be wonderful if the canals ever met up. Blackberries are the absolute best. Just about to pick our first good batch.
I actually typed Masie. Autocorrect. Argh.
You two, both love the same things in life that I do. Wildlife, flowers, and beautiful countryside. Great to watch.
That is what it is all about for us to be honest. It is what makes canal life special isn't it
Living the dream 😀👍
20 minutes thx so relaxing watching your videos
Thank you for watching
Gladly watched ads... because your vlogs are the best!
Also, signed the petition you mentioned.
Isn't walking in the summer rain nice; it is after all only water!
Cheers from here in Richmond, Virginia, USA
Thank you do much for supporting us James and forest hung the adverts. Summer rain is wonderful, it brings out all the colours and smells.mwe had a great time
I'm an armchair traveler enjoying your cruise through Wales. I'm soaking in as much as I can, imagining my ancestors roaming around. Safe travels!
Thank you for watching, glad you're enjoying our travels
Just discovered your channel a week ago. Finally caught up after binge watching. Really enjoyable; keep doing what you're doing. Billy from Northern Canada.
Thank you
The inclusion of flora and fauna and bugs and your concern for the ecological balance is such a nice addition to the narrow boat vlog. Has Fran explored gathering plants for natural dyeing yarn for the weaving? You could find a big old dye pot in a second hand shop.
Thank you Sara. That would be a lovely thing to do someday but I'm not sure we have room on the boat
Stunning. Catching up on the sunshine butterflies and la verdure (as the French say). the beautifully quiet Montgomery arm as the weather's so dull here with snow or rain. We need the water, but.
We are near there again now and will revisit after Christmas. It will be a different scene in January
Yes! Due to the bug Wildlife have come out! Kangaroos, possums & birds everything! Has come out as no or little human traffic taking over, it's been wonderful! It's been reported on the news
Quite agree
Glad you enjoyed the Queen's Head and that it is as good as it was last year. Probably still the same management & excellent staff.
You noticed the noise on the canal there from the A5 too!!! Because we didn't have time to get to the next winding hole, we turned there. Having seen there were no moorings 'upstream' for some distance, I backed the boat through under the A5 bridge, around the corner and all the way down to the lock, about 700m, tying the stern to the furthest lock bollard and throwing the bow rope over the vegetation to the towpath. I was quite proud of that feat - a newbie backing a 66 foot boat 700m along a very narrow ribbon of water.
BTW, good to see a glimpse of the restoration area beyond Maesbury Marsh. Wouldn't you think a man (or woman) and a digger for a week could have the canal connected through to that winding hole at least?!
Wow, that was quite impressive. We are told they hope to have the next stretch open in a year.
Fran I love the new hair cut❣ yours too Rich. Lol. You two make such a cute couple❣ I love your channel and watch all the vlogs. The pups are so well behaved. Can't wait to see the new boat. What color have you chosen? Fran has a blue/periwinkle colored sweatshirt that I love the color. It would be unique❣ The new guys that just ordered their boat from bickerstaff have a very unique metallic jade color. It's quite beautiful. Can't wait to see yours.. Stay healthy and safe❣ ☮❤😁 from 🇺🇸...
Thank you for the comment Erin. My haircut is another Rich creation. I think he is getting quite good at it. We still haven't picked the boat colour yet, but it is likely to be quite traditional
Beautiful scenery, I don’t weave but I dye a little yarn and stitching floss, that gorgeous green against the water colour, I might have to see if I can come close.👍🏻🙋🏼
It was stunning. Good luck with the dye
Instead of bailing out polluting businesses to save / create jobs post covid, imagine if even a couple of billion were invested in a small army of workers to help maintain our canals and restore those long since abandoned. What an amazing and positive thing it would be, it would benefit the economy and the environment for generations.
What a great idea
Nice, it was a choice we made back in 2008, a life on the cut or a move to France. Back from France in '16 and love your adventures.
That must have been a difficult choice. Glad you enjoy watching.
They really need to just cut between the path and the canal. Since many times the non-path side is growing wild. Frogs and some insects need some open area. Then once in the fall cut it all down.
We completely agree
Your puppies even though "energetic" ☺ Are very well behavioured & trained 🦮🐕🦺
Most of the time x
You naughty people....remember to bring you rain macs lol.
Ha ha!
Lovely!!!! Thank you
🎶 Shine on you crazy diamonds 🎶 you guys strike me you may be Pink Floyd folk?
You bet Stephen - Set the controls for the heart of the sun. Thanks for watching
Great video. You should learn how to pronounce Llangollen.
Duly noted
💜
I love watching your videos
Thank you
I have been binge watching another narrowboat vlog and am now up to date with them. Id like to watch yours from the beginning but I cant seem to find the start. Can you tell me how to do that or put a link here? Cheers x
Hi Julie try here. Get the kettle on it's a long haul. Thanks for watching.

Nice to see the old working boats....
Sure is!
Nice video. Fran did the Vobes give you his hat.
Ha ha, no I pinched it from Rich
I think Pant in Welsh means it's a hollow or a dip
Yes, we have been told that, and it is in a dip.
Lovely video guys, thank you.
Thank you
Thank you 🙏 for that just the tonic I needed not felt well today xx
Happy to help! Hope you're feeling a lot better soon Nicola x
Great soundtrack.
Thank you. Rich does work quite hard to find the right music
We did the Montgomery some years ago and loved all the wildlife, left some wonderful memories. 😊
Thanks both, good band pink floyd, the final cut.ha ha .take care.🎸🌺
RARE TO SEE A BUUTY BOAT BEING TOWED....LIKE FRANS NEW BUSHWACKER HAT...INCOMPETENT SO CALLED EXPERTS SHOULD BE SACKED....WHAT A BEAUTIFUL ART PIECE THAT MEMORIAL IS...
Another lovely video from a lovely couple, we both really enjoyed this one. Safe travel. Wendy & Darren
Thank you both x
boat name suggestion for your new boat. Pootle, as in pootling along .
General question: why is the nb named Laura Marie?
After a lot of deliberation we decided to name the boat after our mums. Laura was my mum and Maisie was Rich's. We never met each others mums.
Thanks for the response. I'm a recent viewer and supporter and really enjoy both of you.
Nice relaxing video guys. Thanks for this one and I look forward to more updates on the build of your new boat/home. Wishing you well from Phoenix ;)
Thank you, hopefully we might have a bit more news next week
What a lovely vlog this week! Love all the scenic views you captured. Views like that always evoke a sense of nostalgia for me, and a longing for those three years I spent in the UK. On a different note, at 19:15 ... I am surprise how shallow canals are!
Thank you. You can easily stand up in most of the canals if you fall in! The problem it that some of them are low in water now silted up so the boats get grounded very easily.
@@FloatingOurBoat ahh yes .. that problem crops up in most of the narrowboat videos i watch 😅
Welcome to my beautiful world...... I live in Llansantffraid, about 3 miles as the crow flies from Pant... it's such a beautiful, peaceful part of the world; so glad your enjoyed it......
What a lovely place to live
Fran's hat in the middle of the video was brilliant. 🎩 Very stylish.
Excellent video as always.
It's actually Rich's but I think it looks better on me
@@FloatingOurBoat I did wonder. Musical hats? 😆
Lovely as every guys.
Hi guys.
Rich getting a drop of physio on his gammy leg... I've been looking at getting a half way decent camera drone, and was looking at a Fimi X8. All the features of a Mavic, but less than half the price. Check the reviews. ;o)
At least summer rain is warm!
All the best.
Hi Sarky - yes I was checking the Fimi out today after watching Richard Vobes vlog this morning.
I shall check out some reviews.
Hope you are well.
Rich and Fran xx
Just lovely, the sun, canal, wildflowers and butterflies what more could you ask for. I and my friends have signed the petition. Thanks, guys. Oh yeah think of me in stifling London grrrrr
Thank you so much for watching and commenting and also for supporting the petition. We need to to everything we can to protect our wildlife.
So delighted when I see you have a new Vlog out. The British countryside is amazing how it transitions between winter bleak and summer richness. Your vlogs show that beautifully. And so nice to have a relaxing trip with you.
That is so right and we have found that we notice it so much more living in such close contact with it.
Love watching your vlogs. Lovely memories of good old England. You are a great couple. Greetings from Switzerland
Thank you so much
Thank you! Beautiful video. I’m in Oregon, US and wish so much I was seeing, in person, what you are. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching from Oregon 😊
