It seems more like a value move with high upside than anything else to me. It's hard to imagine the coaching staff being able to make the right adjustments to turn Robles' bat around.
I'm glad to see Raley getting some playing time right now and I wholeheartedly agree with your statement about letting some of these guys play regardless of a righty or lefty on the mound. I liked the idea of platooning at 3B and LF/RF before the season started, but some of these guys have shown (Raley and Rojas) that they can be everyday players.
Now is the time, have the pitching staff to go all the way...need an inspiration bat or two. Not just hopefuls.
Sure…but with a lead in the division the M’s are in a good position to wait out the market and not overpay in prospect capital to acquire an impact bat or two in early June.
Adding speed to your bench is always a good thing.
The hell with this low risk high return shit, splash and get some good bats. Time is now. Fuck that 54% shit.
I see this as the most shocking upside signing in many years. Now that Robles is finally out from under the shadow of Juan Soto for whom he was compared, he is free to become the player everyone thought he could be. Expect great at bats, speed stealing, gold glove fielding and arm and hard work to earn a daily spot in the lineup. He was contently beaten down in DC and was he own worst enemy in letting that stuff affect his play.
Let's read between the lines shall we? This is a signal that the owner Stanton is not going to splurge on a Deadline bat and Jerry is not going to trade away our crop of power bats coming in the next 2 seasons IE; Montez, Loocklear, Ford I wanted to trade Ford for Alonso until I learned Cal is A Borass client. So, this is a Hail Mary to see if he can reclaim the form that had him rated higher than SOTO.
High upside, I don't see it. 2020-2022 his ops is 600. We're loaded with those bats.
Maybe I’m just in love with left-handed bats right now, but I want the Mariners to go get Gregory Polanco (ex-Philly) from the Japanese League. Either him or Michael Conforto from the Giants would make awesome additions to the lineup.
I read his exit velocity is one of the lowest in MLB. Guess it fits right in with M's batting philosophy
Victor Robles is definitely not the worst prospect they could’ve gotten. I hope they don’t treat him as badly as they did Abraham Toro. (Notice how Toro is arguably Oakland’s best contact hitter right now because he -shocker - is getting more reps).
I think the M’s hired an offensive coordinator just so they could have a headline mid-season “Mariners fire offensive coordinator”
Very interesting
Kind of a disappointing move but hopefully not the last. Pretty classic move for a budget player when we are leading the division *sigh*
Well.... if he wanted an opportunity. Here it is. Now the question becomes, does he still have some gas left in the tank? And is he still hungry?
Yep, Service will give him reps. But will he produce? Also, sometimes, a change is good, especially joining a team like the Mariners. Yep, this has got to be an exciting opportunity. But only time will tell.
Respect go MS
Hard to say
Might be a good fit. Price is okay. The Mariners are notorious for spending nothing to get players
Raley at 5 walks for 40ks is ridiculous lol
I would donate my left teat for Rafael Devers to come to the Mariners in exchange for Haniger, Hancock, and Levi Stoudt.
For clarification, I’d use that trade to move Rojas to permanent outfielder.
Very little upside at a high price. It's a look see at someone who hasn't done anything for the last several years. At 3/4 of a million dollars.
We already have better bats than him. He has less power and speed than everyone except Mitch in our OF. We could have gotten someone better.
All I see is a thrift store hunting team. Looking out for cheapest way to compete.. they could re write money ball.. it’s not sustainable
World Series or bust w/this move.
Upside? He is awful
He is fast with really good defense if he can hit slightly below league average I’ll take it for only 700k
Robles is a bum
The Mariners need a middle relief pitcher and a closer. Those positions should be targeted at the training deadline.
I see this as Seattle taking some time to experiment with the lineup before they do something drastic before the trade deadline
And haniger can’t play defense
@@codyhughes4472 I know right? Haniger’s defense is nuts. Oh excuse me, nut.
@@meganb.2249 lol. That’s a low blow.
@@codyhughes4472 Yes, it was, I’m sorry. But wouldn’t having a metal replacement nut down there be the reason why his leaps and stretches are looking far more awkward than usual? He never was a five tool player. A five tool player actually reaches more than 50% of the balls he contests.
I feel like making a montage of Haniger trying to stretch and leap for balls this year and putting it to the tune of the Nutcracker ballet.
