    PAWPAW....IM CONFUSED I KNOW THERE IS 3 FT =1 YARD...BUT WHEN FIGURING SQUARE FEET TO SQUARE YARDS WE FIGURE IT LIKE A SQUARE OF 3 TO 2ND POWER OR 9FT. WILL IT ALWAYS BE CALCULATED THIS WAY EVEN IN LIKE FLOOR TILES? AND HOW DO I FIGURE HOW TO CUT TILES AROUND CORNERS AND PIPES? I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. I AM A WIDOWER ON A TIGHT BUDGET AND HAVE TO DO HOME REPAIRS MYSELF. I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO REPAIR SEVERAL LEAKY MEXICAN TILED ROOF LEAKS...THERE ARE ABOUT 4 LEAKS ON MY SINGLE STORY CATHEDRAL CEILING ROOF. HELLLP. SORRY FOR THE CAPS I HAVE VISION ISSUES..

    • @PawPawsWorkShop

      Yes, it will always be calculated this way. The square foot measurements will be the same for wood floors or ceramic floors. If you are planning carpet, there are a few extra steps.

    Square yards is not something you are ever likely to encounter. No one sells product by the square yard. Cubic yards on the other hand is extremely common and probably the preferred measurement for anything sold by volume like concrete, sand, stone, etc. Calculating Area only involves 2 dimensions, LxW=A. Calculating Volume you have to include depth or height LxWxD=V. It’s important to remember when converting from cubic feet to cubic yards though, 9 is not the number. 27 is the number because there are 27 cubic feet in 1 cubic yard.
    *(actually carpet and cloth are sold by the square yard, so there are a couple products that do use square yards. Most use feet though)

    if I needed to know the total area of a room would I multiply width by length by height ??

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  2 роки тому

      The length times the width gives the total square feet. If you then times that by the height the result will be cubit feet

    If am casting a 44x31x4inches tick how is it in cubic yards

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  2 роки тому

      You have 5456 cubic inches. A cubic yard has 46,656 cubic inches therefore you have .1169 of a cubic yard

  • @jamesdyer7535
    @jamesdyer7535 3 роки тому +2

    That's great if you have a room that is perfectly square, but say it's not, instead it's 185 inches by 133 inches which isn't measured in ft because it's not whole ft measurements. wished you would have done the added method of sq ft and inches for a room that has odd measurements. Still enjoyed your how to..

  • @tikonc

      Paw Paw’s WorkShop what I find even more astounding is that in your introductory comments you state that over time you have received numerous inquiries as to how to go about calculating square footage.
      It would seem to me that the correct locale for this would be Google. At the very least you would get the answer in seconds versus weeks or months on your channel. Additionally all you folks who provide us with insight and tutorials and info on a particular skill have to go through a lot of behind the scenes work just to get a quality video out to the public such as your too much work and effort on your part for a subject matter such as this. Completely wrong venue. Direct them to do a Google search HAHA

      Thank you for your opinion. This is true that it is a lot of work preparing these videos. Many people that I meet say over and over that they use UA-cam to learn how to do different things. I know that many find this extremely easy. I also know that others are glad that I have done this and other videos. I hope you understand.

      The education system's failure to teach rudimentary things like this is astounding.

    • @michaeldunn5280
      @michaeldunn5280 4 роки тому

      tod mills Hey Tod. Is it a failure on the education system or a failure on the student’s part? Or perhaps in some instances they both share responsibility equally

    • @todmills
      @todmills 4 роки тому

      @@michaeldunn5280 That's true, Michael, but it is also true that public schooling is a plank in the Communist Manifesto, and we know that communism kills motivation in whatever it touches, so these results from public schooling should be no surprise. (scroll down about 2/3, plank #10: www.fulltextarchive.com/page/The-Communist-Manifesto/)

    • @michaeldunn5280
      @michaeldunn5280 4 роки тому

      tod mills Todd. The fact that at some point in time,we as adults,forget some basic mathematical formulas/principals should in no way be utilized as criteria too knock public education. For the most part public education /private education is meant for and provided for the people en masse as a means of enlightenment and has served us well as a pathway out of the caves
      The educational system taught all of is the basics in a general format. However we all moved on in life and we all are bombarded on a daily basis with information ( none ever more so than now in the internet age) For some of us certain lessons were never forgotten /certain formulas stuck with us ( in my case the formula for determining the area of a rectangle or the area of a square etc) while for another group these very same lessons learned back in our schooling days and taught by our school systems have been relegated to the far reaches of our memory and forgotten only to be replaced by other more important or more critical needs at the moment. In no way is this a reflection on the education system of our country or any other country Perhaps I misspoke when I used the term “ failure” and it would be best described as above.
      The education system in this country( I am speaking of the United States of America) for the most part has been a remarkable success for society. For every flaw/failure/ shortcoming in this gigantic industry we call “education” one can find many times over a positive or a success or an achievement because of this very same process
