What is Your Pet's Enneagram Type?

In this episode I take a brief lighthearted look at the my dog Nala's enneagram type.
Now before we go too far, please know that it isn't actually possible to determine our pets' enneagram type because the Enneagram is a personal journey that we can only explore for ourselves. As Helen Palmer says, the Enneagram is an inside job.
And we can't exactly ask our pets soul-searching questions to learn the motivations under their behavior. Best we can do is be good observers and take a good educated guess.
I'm pretty sure Nala is a Counter-phobic 6. Counter-phobic 6s are more assertive than Phobic 6s because they want to take on whatever they think might hurt them to ensure their safety (as opposed to run away from danger, which is what the Phobic 6 would do).
Nala is a reactive dog. I have done behavioral training with her with several different behavioralists who each had different approaches. There is only so far I can take her before she starts to have physical symptoms caused by the stress of the training, leading to vet visits and weeks of unpleasantness for her. Clearly she was not comfortable with the behavior training, although she really tried to stretch. After years of trying to make a square peg fit in a round hole, I finally decided to let little Nala "be her own person." She seems a lot happier for it. It kinda works better for me too.
I'm also pretty sure if she didn't end up with me that she would have re-homed several times. (Being an acupuncturist and understanding energetics sure helped me as a dog mom). I suppose some unhealthy Counter-phobic 6 humans without self-awareness and support might find themselves in risk of the equivalent canine situation... in relationships with people who just don't get them, who don't get their seemingly unfounded aggression, and who probably walk away and quit on them.
Nala also needs a "protective shell" and so wearing a shirt when she feels vulnerable is a necessity. Her crate (both at home and when traveling) are high ticket items for her, as is her little doggie stroller. When she has these things she is calm and very well-behaved.
She is also a Cancer Sun and Aquarius Moon. Cancers are crabs that live in a shell and home is the center of their world, so no surprise that Nala's various crates and clothing (her enclosures and versions of "home") are important to her. But I was also told that as an Aquarius Moon she'd also be "quirky." She is definitely the oddest (if not also the cutest) dog I've ever had.
