Looking back at this now in my late 50s..its zmazing how much a different paint job,a set of cutom wheels and tyres transformed a very ordinary boring looking 2 door car into any 14yrs dream car at the time...pity engine sounds were fake....i loved the car at first at 14 yrs of age but out grew it by 18yrs... but nostalia and the ability to make the car perform ax you really wanted to do it great to look at this project with a smile
It was still looking terrible. Probably the only stylish american cars were Corvettes and 3rd gen Firebird. Everything else is a festival of grotesque and bad proportions.
Amazing project restoration from the ground up of a TV series icon. I've always loved the looks of Starsky"s car. That would be a keeper and remind people of yesterday's famous tv show when you drive the car around. The closest I could get to owning Starsky"s Gran Turino is at my local Hobby Lobby store where they sell a Starsky and Hutch car display kit lol. Thanks for sharing the details of transforming a Gran Turino into an iconic tv series car, good job well done and worth it..👍👍..
That's funny to see the blue & white Gran Torino in the background! YOU do an AMAZING frame-off rebuild / transformation! That couple, being from the United Kingdom, MUST be the toast of wherever they are from! I won't bother to ask what it cost, I was taught decades ago "if you have to ask, you cannot afford it". Again, BEAUTIFUL JOB!
VhsVigilante hey mate did you go to Meguiars in Sydney 2015? They had one of these there , together with Mad Max cars , man I've never thought much of this car until I saw it very close , man they are really cool awesome looking cars indeed , this one is pretty cool one indeed ! Great job well done. Adelaide SA
Yeah, these cars are pretty thin on the ground here in the UK, but back in 2010 I saw one of these Starsky Torino's at a classic car show. Wow, it looked better in the metal than it did on screen. Our cars from that era looked dreadful in comparison. At least you Aussie's had the Ford Falconwhich was kind of based on an early 70's Mustang.right? All we got was the Capri or Crappie lol.
I also found a 1974 Gran Torino on Ebay . I did a lot of work on it and made a replica car ( Starsky and Hutch) which turned out awesome! Thanks for sharing yours!!!
Wow he turn a old man Torino Into exciting car it like brand new car now to top to bottom that is lot of but worth it he is big fan that show so much time and money's to get it Too look like the movie car that awesome work
Yes puhlease!!!! I’ve been dreaming of owning this car since 1975 when I was 9 years old! The closest I’ve come is a die-cast replica! What would a build like this cost?
Have a black Lincoln Town Car chase you in circles to recreate the opening scene, only slowly. There were some great chases. My 2 favorite were the one where they chase the guys pretending to be them in a like Starsky's, and the one where the green Ford Maverick follows them, then taken from Steve McQueen in Bullet, the hunters become the hunted! The Charger could not outrun the Mustang, the Maverick could not outrun the Torino.
absolutely beautiful car. I was wondering about the restoration process. did you reuse the rear fenders or find replacements. I need a patch for each side of my s&h and was wondering what you used. thanks
Did Bodywork for a long time .ALOT of aftermarket panels.Your part store will have catalogs. Probably online to now.Coolest car I put quarters on would be a 69 Plymouth GtX.Quarters must of been 6 '.
So was Starskys car a 74 or 76? I'm confused most ppl say 1976 Torino, but the series started in 1975 so unless it was an early released 76 it had to have been older. Btw this was before my time and even though that's the case, I'm a fan of Starsky and Hutch. My Dad liked it back then as a teen in the 70s.
Matthew Hybel The Series started in 1975 the 1st car was a 75. But then the used a 1976 for the rest of the series. The 1974 75 and 76 are all the same body style.
Beautiful job....l'm in the process of making a 1976 Gran Torino Tribute Car with a 351M/400 ....l have a long way to go yet, mine is not in the kind of shape yours was when you started your project....it's in rough shape , Canadian weather is not kind on these old cars from our past....l was wondering if the taillight and headlight bezels are original or are they new, if new where did you get them
The build was top notch I'm sure the owners are very Happy , as far as taking a regular car and making it a Hot Rod it's about as Good as it's going to get for a Torino although not digging the smog stuff that was put back on the worst years were 75/87 for carburetor cars. if in fact the show was sponsor by Ford they made a good choice then only other car would had been a mustang and it looked like a Granada in the mid 70,s ... Ranchero and throw crooks in the back ....
Whenever I see the original Starsky and Hutch television cars and then I'll look at tribute cars that people have done for some reason I can't help seeing a difference and when I look at the start of this video and see the two cars once again I see a difference and I think it is in the actual length of the car. Were the TV cars smaller in length? compared to tribute cars which may have been built in the in between years, say 1976 onwards and assuming the cars are the same model. I Don't actually know if there were different Ford Torinos which is another thing that makes tribute cars look different??.
Hi there I have a ford turino 1974 and i am struggling to find the long chrome molding underneeth the door could u tell me where can i find those or if u have used pair in good condition or if there is an aftermarket replecement .. and also the front and rear bumper molding the one its come above the tyres. Thank you
Wow! I felt pretty good about my 74 Sport but i'm jealous as hell. Finally a full frame off resto video on my car! How long did it take and what do you charge? Not a Starsky and Hutch. Going from Wimbleton white to metallic silver.
In other words... don`t ask, Lol. Fantastic job!! I met Steve Bordi at the Orchard Beach car show last week; you two are the absolute gurus of S&H Torinos.
