  • This is not what a rabbit breeder wants to see. If you are seeing your rabbits behave like this, it is a failed breeding.

Have you tried assisted breeding where you hold the doe for the buck?

I feel like it is an option for some breeders, but it just does not fit in with me. I am a bit more laid back about the whole breeding episode.

When you're talking about hybrids, what other breeds are you using in your breeding program? I have a few English Angoras now and I'm loving the fibre but want more of it. I also wouldn't mind a larger rabbit so I have been thinking of getting a German instead of another English and if that works out either breeding it with the English or jumping ship completely and getting more Germans.Any thoughts on this from the fibre perspective?

Great question. I have high content Germans. Arthur is a 50/50 German/English angora. I have a bit of French angora and tiny bit of satin angora left in for the does I have now. I would like to keep German 50% or higher to keep density of wool, yet have the blend of English to keep guard hair low and bodies a bit smaller. The Germans are the best production breed I have owned for wool, however I have not owned a Giant. I find the feedback from other angora raisers is that the larger bodied angora rabbits can be a struggle for some people to shear on their laps as the rabbit can be longer than their lap! I find the vigor and health of hybrids to be better. My hybrids seem to withstand heat better than the pure Germans.

Agreed. Carl just could not get this figured out and Harriet really had no plans to make it work.
