I have found many songs from the 80's spoke the truth then and do still today. Many songs today also have the same message, mostly underground artists not paid by the mainstream producers. The commonality is the governments corruption, and the various agendas they push such as the keep them separated agendas:sexism and racial issues. The main message is that if we let the governments use their propaganda to keep us separate we will never be united to keep them in check.
@@SwazBentekkerz No, Martin wrote this. Vince wrote Just Can’t Get Enough and the majority of the other songs on the first album. He left the band at that point and made no further contribution to DM.

The lyrics "it's obvious you hate me though I've done nothing wrong. I've never even met you so what could I have done" resonate with me. I was in a bar a long time ago and was standing in front of a foosball table. A guy behind me started jabbing me with the pole(handle). I never met the guy before. I told him I knew it was him doing it and he told me to go outside (either by the front door or back door) in an effort to get me to fight him. Some great music in the eighties, Depeche Mode had a very recognisable sound I still remember. Songs stick in your head and you only need a bit to bring it back.
The world needs to listen to these lyrics again! I wish for peace in Ukraine right now hearing this song echoing the same sentiment about previous conflicts only reiterates the strength of Depeche Mode's inspiration.
I agree with your message 100 %. People are so quick to judge those they don't know and who are different. Hate is the worst disease in the world, and it can spread faster than Covid ever did. I love this song and it needs to be blasted loud in every speaker around the world and played over and over until people listen to the words. We are all different. I hope peace to ALL and all my love goes out to all those caught in the middle. Peace and may God protect them ALL.

I wish everyone everywhere some peace as we go into 2023.
70s were good too (well apart from American Disco, LOL) But without 70s electronic musicians like Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, etc. we wouldn't have groups like Depeche Mode, Cure, Eurythmics, etc.

The one thing about this song is it helped me understand the beauty of everyone and that everyone is unique among one another, when I was younger the kind of people I wanted to deal with are the wealthy, high status people with lots of money and to be accepted by them, as I've gotten older I grew to appreciate and understand all types of people no matter what they're walk of life is, I even feel greater sympathy for those in low places and wish I can be there for them, I would like to thank Martin Gore and Alan Wilder for the lyrics and music of this song and I would also like to thank Dave Gahan and Andy Fletcher for their contributions of this song as well as they were part of something great.
That's what great music like this does, opens your mind to other point of view..today there's a entire generation lost with trash "music", the inspiration disappeared
Back when you could just wear an oversized wool sweater for the official music video and that was good enough because people just cared about good content👌
@@kostajovanovic3711 Hmm, nah, don't think so. Remember David Bowie in the 70ies? glam Rock in general? Kiss? :-) Even the Beatles were styled to wear those suits and boots all four the same.
To be fair, with the others tucked away behind their keyboards and him out front on his own, he was always under a lot of pressure. How self-conscious could you not be? Even Kraftwerk never did that!
I grew up in the '80's and as the crow flies, probably 60 miles from Basildon (although a totally different world), DM were very big at the time - Dave Gahan and the band remind me so much of so many of my schoolmates - same clothes, same hair, same mannerisms, just very '80's.
This was the first Depeche Mode song I ever heard. I remember that I was maybe 8 or 9 years old, standing in my suburban Pennsylvania driveway, hearing it coming from the second story window of the next door neighbors house. Thanks.

I can’t believe this song is 40 years old now. I still remember hearing this song for the very first time on the radio and now, after seeing them in 11 different tours, 15 shows, countless hours listening to their albums, meeting Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher, here I am still the obsessive Depeche Mose fan. This song started at all for me.
This song is pure gold but, you're absolutely CORRECT, this song goes to another level for the reasons you stated. Their voices and the drum beat and synths are ON POINT!!! Biden and Harris need to figure out a way to include this gem in the inaugural. C'mon B&H...do it for the country...in fact, EVERYONE, LISTEN TO THE LYRICS!!! Let us HEAL from WITHIN, heal from WITHIN ourselves and from WITHIN as a nation. Let the healing begin!!!
I can't understand why Depeche Mode won't play this song on their concerts, stating it's too commercial. This song is probably one of the most important messages none political, that they could contribute above anything else!
It's a perfect anthem for our times. Not exactly deep, but so fitting: "It's obvious you hate me, though, I've done nothing wrong. I've never even met you, so, what could I have done?" Trump steals a lot of songs for his rallies, but I bet you'll never hear this one.
Here is the song that started our love for this band and then it was history. We used to love them so much. They mean and will always mean the 80s to me and my friends. Seen them in concert more than any other band and as a teen and even as an adult I just can’t get enough of their music, no pun intended.
@@dsimmonssr1 I could not agree with you more. Times were better, music and movies were better, just to get one more glimpse to really appreciate it now, knowing what we see and know now, would be an even bigger impact. Oh well, we have our great memories of that best of times.

Depeche Mode's music will transcend through time! Their music could be played on the radio today for this generation, and they would think its a new band. That's how great their music and sound is! Their music is the music of our future. This is one of my favorite songs from them! The message still applies today in 2024, which you would think people would grow up and stop racism! I love Depeche Mode!!!
It took more than 2.000 years for women had equal rights (in certain parts of the world anyway), so don’t get your hopes up that hatred to people with different color, background and what have you, will change. Humanity is a sad lot.

O
I concur! Great song for right now.
Peace fore Russia 🇷🇺
I agree with your message 100 %. People are so quick to judge those they don't know and who are different. Hate is the worst disease in the world, and it can spread faster than Covid ever did. I love this song and it needs to be blasted loud in every speaker around the world and played over and over until people listen to the words. We are all different. I hope peace to ALL and all my love goes out to all those caught in the middle. Peace and may God protect them ALL.
@@michelewebb6320 we may be different, but we all are ONE! #prayforukraine
I have spent my life trying to understand, to the point that (at 55 years) I went to university as an undergraduate to study Anthropology. I completed the degree with even more questions than when I started. The best I can conclude is that people are people. And that's as good as it gets! I wish everyone everywhere some peace as we go into 2023.
Top comment. I wish it back! 🤗
You too my friend 😊
Same to you brother
80's music the best,, depeche mode, cure, Eurythmics etc etc
70s were good too (well apart from American Disco, LOL)
But without 70s electronic musicians like Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, etc. we wouldn't have groups like Depeche Mode, Cure, Eurythmics, etc.
New order, new order and new order.

Now your punching and your kicking and your shouting at me. I'm relying on your common decency, so far it hasn't surfaced but i'm sure it exists.... One of the best musical lines of the 80's......
Christine Jones unfortunately i have discovered there are people that never let it surface even if you can see it.

Martin Gore.
Shit sounds clean doesn't it.
One of the best song finales I have ever heard! Love it too!
This is honestly the greatest song of all time ..
I fully agree
Q. E. P. D. Andy Fletcher, un pilar sin el cual Depeche Mode ya no podrá ser el mismo. Una gran pérdida para la música.
This song is a huge hit for all times

A positive message song, the music is ahead of its time.
I agree. I wish there were more songs like this now. The music of today isn't all that impressive.
+Chris Rogers To say the least
@@christopherrogers5197 There is very good music to be found in the indie sphere.
But in the mainstream media... eeh... the problem is they found out that making all the music sound the same is super profitable... and profit was the only thing they seemingly cared about.
My all-time favorite from Depeche Mode.
В этой старой студийной аудиозаписи Depeche Mode - People are people (1984 год), в аранжировке звучат все эти классные щелчки, звонки и резкие переходы - это всё сделал аранжировщик Алан Уайлдер, талантище 😏😏
Its 2022 and this song 🎵 still transcends and makes sense in this day! Lyrics, rhythm, beats, chain clings, luv it!! Saw Depeche Mode 2x. Great in concert. 🥰
The only synth band who genuinely made rock and roll.
I’m here and I still love this song after all these years of listening to it!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤ Ww need more music like this in today’s world 🌎 too help us all unite in this world!!!!!!
Not with the powers that be in charge all they want to do is opposite of God's word hello
I love listening to Dave and Martin harmonize. Their voices complement each other so perfectly
Hatred towards another person leads to war, love unites the world 🙌🏻
Sadly, this message is still relevant.
Exactly...
At least, you found this gem!
the lyrics are spot on........

Best of times im sooo glad i was in highschool during the 80’s blessed
@@Lavyew Lucky 🤣
You are listening. 😎
Back when you could just wear an oversized wool sweater for the official music video and that was good enough because people just cared about good content👌
Wasn't the MTV era when looks started really mattering?
Or a simple suit
@@kostajovanovic3711 Hmm, nah, don't think so. Remember David Bowie in the 70ies? glam Rock in general? Kiss? :-) Even the Beatles were styled to wear those suits and boots all four the same.
that was the fashion of the day
I do notice that everyone except Martin were dressed casually in this video.
David Gahan is (consistently) the most awkwardly self-conscious frontman I've ever witnessed. It's actually kind of refreshing.
And he’s still incredible💜💜💜💜💜💜
To be fair, with the others tucked away behind their keyboards and him out front on his own, he was always under a lot of pressure. How self-conscious could you not be?
Even Kraftwerk never did that!
I grew up in the '80's and as the crow flies, probably 60 miles from Basildon (although a totally different world), DM were very big at the time - Dave Gahan and the band remind me so much of so many of my schoolmates - same clothes, same hair, same mannerisms, just very '80's.
And he's hot AF!
Devotional Tour he was a dance machine
Literally this song is a theme for 2020
@Juan Juanon Juan Juanin Remember the outrage when Trump said he wanted America to be friends with Russia and China?

I used to have a record player and I had this song always playing. Coming back always brings back so much nostalgia.
Same here, are used to play this album all the time on the record player
Even much, much more relevant in 2023 than in '84. (Sadly) 💔

My best Depeche Mode song, love the lyrics, and so true.
This was the first Depeche Mode song I ever heard. I remember that I was maybe 8 or 9 years old, standing in my suburban Pennsylvania driveway, hearing it coming from the second story window of the next door neighbors house. Thanks.
Very relevant during this time. From day to day all we are trying to do is just survive. The Beatles said it best “All we need is Love” . Depeche Mode, I wish I was not so narrow minded back in the 80’s. I love your music now.
So true.. in the 80's we just danced to the music... Today we listen and understand more...
The Beatles said it best with "Imagine"

Ricky … take some of your mum’s magical words, and apply them. There are still decent people around, just need activating.
40 years later, and I am still in amazement by their innovation…one of the best Alternative/college rock bands of the 80’s!
1. Очень актуально в наши дни!
2. R.I.P Andy Fletcher :(
2:48 is when this song seals the deal. Love the layers of synths, Martin, and Dave's voices. Amazing!!!
One of the key songs of the 80s
Still my jam and reminder to treat ppl kind no matter who it is
What a tremendous band!!!!!!!!!! They still blow me away today!!!!!!
Powerful, beautiful, and timeless.
80s were genius.
Just to be able to go back to to those days, when things were much simpler!
@@dsimmonssr1 I could not agree with you more. Times were better, music and movies were better, just to get one more glimpse to really appreciate it now, knowing what we see and know now, would be an even bigger impact. Oh well, we have our great memories of that best of times.
Something as High as this group in SONG, LYRICS, PERFORMANCE, AUTHENTICITY, AND TRUTH NOTHING LIKE THOS WILL EVER BE DONE AGAIN ONLY IN THE 80S! GOOD JOB GUYS!!!
This song is so much more important now than it was back then. 'Can't understand what makes a man hate another man, help me understand..' Make love not war.
Lisa F FUCK them, not fuck THEM
@Lisa F Totally agree with you...Make Love, Not War. Peace
Great bumper sticker slogan!
Make Love
Not War.
You’re an Effing genius Lisa!! Climb the steps from your basement and please ask your parents for money. Fly to Syria. Rent a car. Slap a bumper sticker on it and drive around and see how far you get! Snap out of it girl!
You guys are a bunch of hippies. Conflict is integral to society.
Totally agree!
Ditto!❤
This song is still needed today 36 years later and people still don't understand, so sad!
Troy Simpson 😩
It took more than 2.000 years for women had equal rights (in certain parts of the world anyway), so don’t get your hopes up that hatred to people with different color, background and what have you, will change. Humanity is a sad lot.
Exactly.. I agree
I do indeed understand
Ideology. Liberals breaking bread with Conservatives is a pipedream.

The meaning is so strong. Every man is different but there no need to shame
Such amazing carisma by Dave Gahan. Born to be a leader!

My only complaint about this song is it's too short.
Listen to the long version then. They had great remixes in those days.
