Seeing as how we don't get music with such beautiful messages these days, we definitely should keep Depeche alive forever! The 80s had so many meaningful songs go mainstream, and it seems like that's far and few in between these days :/
I can’t believe this song is 40 years old now. I still remember hearing this song for the very first time on the radio and now, after seeing them in 11 different tours, 15 shows, countless hours listening to their albums, meeting Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher, here I am still the obsessive Depeche Mose fan. This song started at all for me.
I find it ironic that the people that yell the loudest claiming theyre mistreated are the same people who have a hard time displaying common decency, or any decency at all.
I have found many songs from the 80's spoke the truth then and do still today. Many songs today also have the same message, mostly underground artists not paid by the mainstream producers. The commonality is the governments corruption, and the various agendas they push such as the keep them separated agendas:sexism and racial issues. The main message is that if we let the governments use their propaganda to keep us separate we will never be united to keep them in check.
I am a brown dude who grew up in Europe and anytime I would have a "racist experience" in my life, I would get home, put my headphones on and listen to this song, over and over again and it would always make me feel better deep down in a way. I wish everyone everywhere some peace as we go into 2023.
70s were good too (well apart from American Disco, LOL) But without 70s electronic musicians like Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, etc. we wouldn't have groups like Depeche Mode, Cure, Eurythmics, etc.
The world needs to listen to these lyrics again! I wish for peace in Ukraine right now hearing this song echoing the same sentiment about previous conflicts only reiterates the strength of Depeche Mode's inspiration.
I agree with your message 100 %. People are so quick to judge those they don't know and who are different. Hate is the worst disease in the world, and it can spread faster than Covid ever did. I love this song and it needs to be blasted loud in every speaker around the world and played over and over until people listen to the words. We are all different. I hope peace to ALL and all my love goes out to all those caught in the middle. Peace and may God protect them ALL.
10 seconds into this and I am magically transported back to 1984, listening to this gem on the radio. If a time machine existed, I would go back to the 80s in a heartbeat. Who's with me ?
This song is pure gold but, you're absolutely CORRECT, this song goes to another level for the reasons you stated. Their voices and the drum beat and synths are ON POINT!!! Biden and Harris need to figure out a way to include this gem in the inaugural. C'mon B&H...do it for the country...in fact, EVERYONE, LISTEN TO THE LYRICS!!! Let us HEAL from WITHIN, heal from WITHIN ourselves and from WITHIN as a nation. Let the healing begin!!!

Some great music in the eighties, Depeche Mode had a very recognisable sound I still remember. Songs stick in your head and you only need a bit to bring it back.
The one thing about this song is it helped me understand the beauty of everyone and that everyone is unique among one another, when I was younger the kind of people I wanted to deal with are the wealthy, high status people with lots of money and to be accepted by them, as I've gotten older I grew to appreciate and understand all types of people no matter what they're walk of life is, I even feel greater sympathy for those in low places and wish I can be there for them, I would like to thank Martin Gore and Alan Wilder for the lyrics and music of this song and I would also like to thank Dave Gahan and Andy Fletcher for their contributions of this song as well as they were part of something great.
That's what great music like this does, opens your mind to other point of view..today there's a entire generation lost with trash "music", the inspiration disappeared
Something as High as this group in SONG, LYRICS, PERFORMANCE, AUTHENTICITY, AND TRUTH NOTHING LIKE THOS WILL EVER BE DONE AGAIN ONLY IN THE 80S! GOOD JOB GUYS!!!
Depeche Mode's music will transcend through time! Their music could be played on the radio today for this generation, and they would think its a new band. That's how great their music and sound is! Their music is the music of our future. This is one of my favorite songs from them! The message still applies today in 2024, which you would think people would grow up and stop racism! I love Depeche Mode!!!

I completed the degree with even more questions than when I started. The best I can conclude is that people are people. And that's as good as it gets! I wish everyone everywhere some peace as we go into 2023.
Top comment. I wish it back! 🤗
You too my friend 😊
Same to you brother
Martin Gore is easily one of the greatest songwriters within the past 50 years!
Agree!!!!!!!!
YES!!!
along with xxxtentacion agreed
Agreed but he doesn't get the credit he is due.
And dave gahan is the best singer of the past 50 years
80's music the best,, depeche mode, cure, Eurythmics etc etc
70s were good too (well apart from American Disco, LOL)
But without 70s electronic musicians like Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, etc. we wouldn't have groups like Depeche Mode, Cure, Eurythmics, etc.
New order, new order and new order.
Tears for Fears

@@jo2522 OMG I love Bizarre Love Triangle and Blue Monday
Duran Duran.
The meaning is so strong. Every man is different but there no need to shame
This needs to be played on a loop, everywhere, everyday.😔
This song is true everyday and everywhere.
Yes👍♥️💯
In public on HUMONGOUS SPEAKERS! Like they do in Iran.
People are People in Wars today they can't stop the war in the middle east long enough 🎉

The world needs to listen to these lyrics again! I wish for peace in Ukraine right now hearing this song echoing the same sentiment about previous conflicts only reiterates the strength of Depeche Mode's inspiration.
O
I concur! Great song for right now.
Peace fore Russia 🇷🇺
I agree with your message 100 %. People are so quick to judge those they don't know and who are different. Hate is the worst disease in the world, and it can spread faster than Covid ever did. I love this song and it needs to be blasted loud in every speaker around the world and played over and over until people listen to the words. We are all different. I hope peace to ALL and all my love goes out to all those caught in the middle. Peace and may God protect them ALL.
@@michelewebb6320 we may be different, but we all are ONE! #prayforukraine
The industrial clanging and banging sound is badass. No other song sounds like it. Still slaps after four decades. 💥
Powerful, beautiful, and timeless.
One of the key songs of the 80s
10 seconds into this and I am magically transported back to 1984, listening to this gem on the radio.
If a time machine existed, I would go back to the 80s in a heartbeat.
Who's with me ?
I am.
Crimper ready high tops flexed 😊
when do we leave
I am only 16 but i would love to see how the 80s looked Like
@@matthiasprexl precious days....
My best Depeche Mode song, love the lyrics, and so true.
"I can't understand what makes a man hate another man..." I got that.
2:48 is when this song seals the deal. Love the layers of synths, Martin, and Dave's voices. Amazing!!!
This song is still needed today 36 years later and people still don't understand, so sad!
Troy Simpson 😩
It took more than 2.000 years for women had equal rights (in certain parts of the world anyway), so don’t get your hopes up that hatred to people with different color, background and what have you, will change. Humanity is a sad lot.
Exactly.. I agree
I do indeed understand
Ideology. Liberals breaking bread with Conservatives is a pipedream.
40 years later, and I am still in amazement by their innovation…one of the best Alternative/college rock bands of the 80’s!
A positive message song, the music is ahead of its time.
I agree. I wish there were more songs like this now. The music of today isn't all that impressive.
+Chris Rogers To say the least
@@christopherrogers5197 There is very good music to be found in the indie sphere.
But in the mainstream media... eeh... the problem is they found out that making all the music sound the same is super profitable... and profit was the only thing they seemingly cared about.
2019, and this song is more relevant now than ever.
puoi dirlo forte fra'
Vlamir Marques was relevant at the time the song came out (capitalist usa vs communist ussr) i dont go nothing to teach you everybody knows
In THIS age,it fits in WAY more that anyone Thinks!(and that's real Talk)
To bring you up to speed, the second blond dude in this Band has a father who's BLACK(it's not hyperbole' it's fact) and FYI,Depeche mode was embraced by The Alt-Right,but The Band Themselves have publicly said in so many words: fuck that shit, that's not Us, as a band or people and don't put that label on US,cause We don't accept it(this is all online,so nobody is lying to you ,it's not Fake News or Fake Information )
@Beau Litttzen I never even met you,So What Could I have Done
i can't understand what makes a man hate another man ❤
These are lyrics that everyone can relate to. People need to be better to each other.
Hatred towards another person leads to war, love unites the world 🙌🏻
Sadly, this message is still relevant.

@Juan Juanon Juan Juanin Remember the outrage when Trump said he wanted America to be friends with Russia and China?
I agree. Think about it. Still going on
Amen I was thinking the same thing
I was thinking the same thing, before I read your comment.........
@Juan Juanon Juan Juanin and America -_-
My only complaint about this song is it's too short.
Listen to the long version then. They had great remixes in those days.
Judie Greer agreed!
They did a good 12" Mix of it..
Judie Greer they look a bit 80s with their haircuts, lol
Gee, I wonder why?! :-P
These guys are so underrated! I think they're amazing and need to continue on as the group they've always been!
they are not underrated. they get their proper recognition.

Depeche Mode = People are People

You guys are a bunch of hippies. Conflict is integral to society.
Totally agree!
Depeche Mode is one of the most legendary bands of all time. Right up there with The Beatles.
Best of times im sooo glad i was in highschool during the 80’s blessed
@@Lavyew Lucky 🤣
You are listening. 😎
Ditto!❤
Martin, such a genius with a good heart. I love his voice and everything about him 🖤
The image of the army duplicated and mirrored like theyre marching into eachother in the center is damn deep
Very relevant during this time. From day to day all we are trying to do is just survive. The Beatles said it best “All we need is Love” . Depeche Mode, I wish I was not so narrow minded back in the 80’s. I love your music now.
So true.. in the 80's we just danced to the music... Today we listen and understand more...
The Beatles said it best with "Imagine"

a wonderful synth bassline, metallic percussion and an instant chorus make this one of the band's finest tunes.
That part of the video at the end gave me chills because they are saying the question is never ending.

Andy Fletcher, Depeche Mode keyboardist and founding member, dead at 60
Just a few hours ago
:(
The lyrics are brilliant.
If Depeche Mode didn’t abandon this song after 1988, it would be considered one of the best songs of the 80’s. Now, it’s sadly forgotten by everyone except the fans who remember how it made them stars.
I've never realized how great is the last part with '' PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE '' as Dave's echos this is so moving I don't know why
This was the first Depeche Mode song I ever heard. I remember that I was maybe 8 or 9 years old, standing in my suburban Pennsylvania driveway, hearing it coming from the second story window of the next door neighbors house. Thanks.
One of the many reasons the 80's had the best music! 🎧
When I started listening to them at around 15 years old, they seemed so grown up. Now that I’m 51, they look soooooo young.
Так идеально свести вокал с музыкой, да ещё феноменально подобрать фрагменты с видео и наложить собственный клип, браво!
А ещё итоговая шикарная аранжировка Алана Уайлдера 😎
Back when you could just wear an oversized wool sweater for the official music video and that was good enough because people just cared about good content👌
Wasn't the MTV era when looks started really mattering?
Or a simple suit
@@kostajovanovic3711 Hmm, nah, don't think so. Remember David Bowie in the 70ies? glam Rock in general? Kiss? :-) Even the Beatles were styled to wear those suits and boots all four the same.
that was the fashion of the day
