As a Cub Scout in 1953, I listened to these 15 minute episodes nightly on my homemade crystal set using earphones. Now, more than sixty years later, I'm once again using earphones to hear "Johnny Dollar", but now they're plugged in to my lap top! I find that amusing. BTW, I still like listening to these shows.
RF Johns Thanks for your response. You may be pleased to know that I listen to a lot of OTR as well as UA-cam. I haven't tried Simple Radio yet, however, there are a fair number of sites offering old radio transcriptions. There's so much entertainment out there that I won't have time enough left to enjoy it all. I am havin' fun though!
I remember as a kid listening to some of the last radio shows in the 70's. Dad and I listened and it was late at night. When I found old classic on XM radio I couldn't get enough. Johnny dollar and Fibber McGee and Molly are some of my favorite shows. Of course I would love the radio, because I love old films.
I discovered Johnny on Sirius Old-time Radio, and fell hard. He's one sexy insurance investigator. The show is sluck, wry, and fast-pasced. Love the slinky music!
Old Time Radio died a slow, writhing death. Cutbacks were being made constantly, thus the 5-part, 15 minute weekday episodes were scrapped and the series reverted to weekly 30 minute episodes. Later cutbacks had the show moving to New York, and since Bob Bailey was unwilling or unable to move himself and his family across the continent, he was succeeded by two other actors in the role of Johnny Dollar in the show's last two seasons.
Just so you know I listen to Big Dalas Talk KBDT Dalas radio on TuneIn app. They ran an episode of YTJD and glad I found your well organized episodes. I’m in New England east coast USA. Thumb up
My mom used to listen to this show all the time. Then I started when I got old enough to understand what was going. Also liked the Long Ranger on the radio.
This is specifically to VistaRecordB Thank you so much I can listen to these Johnny Dollar episodes all night long when I'm working. Or even just relaxing,,,, I can honestly and openly say.: I love them... You see, when I was a kid I would sit on the floor at my grandmother's house with my grandmother and listen to the old radio shows the shadow,,, I remember this growing up. Early in the 1970s. So once again thank you now I'm heading back to the episode where Johnny Dollar gets his man !!!!!
Movie, please. And bring Bob Bailey back from the dead to play him. "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar" is a pinnacle of noir. Seriously good and cheesy stuff!
@@rfjohns1715 Except unlike Bill Conrad, Bob wasn't heavy-set; however (and unfortunately), Bob lacked the "imposing" height and physicality to do a live action Johnny Dollar. I think Bob's best bet for television would have been to play meaty supporting roles as plainclothes cop characters, but either such an opportunity was never given him, or more likely, poor Bob had grown too disillusioned (and too overtaken with his drinking problem) to motivate himself to settle for suitable television work.
Edward Davis 'Johnnie Dollar' was a character who was played by a Hollywood CA USA voice actor Bob Bailey/real life man/ during the days of world war 2 before television). Johnnie Dollar was an insurance investigator (but also was a "gum shoe" private investigator of sorts). he was always getting roped into new jobs by "other" insurance companies. he was "famous" for his ability to 'pad' his expense account.
I'm sorry I just missed radio. But, for the past 18 years I have researched the old shows and do a daily broadcast on yesterdayusa.com. It's nice to find episodes that are of such good audio quality. You're right. Put on an episode, turn out the lights and enjoy.
At the last part of my comment I'll say it again Johnny Dollar always gets his man ,, alive or unfortunately dead... On to the next case ; See you,,. in the next episode.
Go down near the end of the play list, and you will find a nine-parter; there was also one six-part story. I think Jack Johnstone must have taken advantage of the political conventions that preempted the show (Eisenhower ended up getting reelected in November 1956) to make up for the show having been bumped a time or two by the presidential race events, by presenting a couple of "movie length" Johnny Dollars.
Johnny Dollar has become an addiction for me. This collapsing, decrepit, dying, pop-pervert culture to which I've been born subjected is a disgrace. So reaching back in time to a different world of honor and dignity is purely delicious to me.
There were perv's in Sodom and Gomorra, there were human animals in the Roman Empire, etc. But I grew up in an era when perverts, killing unborn babies, hack it off sex wackos, and the like were not acceptable, surely not celebrated. I Therefore disagree, utterly.
Johnny had to have money , they make it line he’s an average guy but if you add up all his rewards and commissions he’s a very rich man , just saying lol have a great night cheers
I am with a non-profit history organization that would like to reproduce local stories in an old radio drama style. Do you know of any place that sells DVD's that contain a collection of only the music tracks from these old shows?
Rick Helin sounds great! I would love to listen to that. I would suggest you should be able to find them for retail. if not seek the owners or the rights owners...then maybe the broadcasting companies archives...if all else fails, stream them and record and edit...just my two cents
I’m new to Johnny Dollar, and now an avid follower and great fan.
Simply wonderful!
Thanks so much for sharing these fabulous stories. 🇬🇧
Thank you for uploading these... I use these in my English class every now and then...Yours Truly...Johnny Dollar

Mr. Sebnup
If you changed from the crystal set and got a computer, phone or tablet check out Simple Radio for radio stations that have OTR.

Wish they would have made more of the 5 part episodes. Bob Bailey was a great Johnny Dollar.

+Dan Williams I always thought Bob Bailey was the best Johnny Dollar ever!
Dan Williams
Bob had the voice not the appearance similar to Bill Conrad Gunsmoke.
Thanks for all of these great shows

Times were no better then, and there were perverts around too.
