I actually have to say I thought the samething until I really spent time thinking about it. Loki literally went there to do exactly what himdell said he did. He read his mind and saw the future, the context he can't know, but he wasn't wrong.
Knowing Odin's scheming abilities, there's probably a good chance Odin encouraged Heimdall to antagonize Atreus even infront of himself so he can try and be friendly with Atreus to win his trust. definitely an idea though.
Maybe he teleported Atreus outside of Asgards walls knowing Atreus would have to breach the wall and run into Heimdall. Heimdall would do his job like usual and then Odin gets to come in and save the day and to Heimdall and Atreus this all happens organically.
No, this is not true for the soul fact that EVEYRYONE in Asgard wants Odin's approval or attention. Heimdall, Thor and Baldur all want Daddy's attention and Heimdall has bo ability to be deceiving. He is what you get he has foresight...he sees the worst in people and it was no trick from Heimdall but Odin knew his Aesir would be quite rough. Odin takes advantage of this and we see how the boys all submit to their father and long for his love. Baldur couldn't psychically love/feel anything, so he went crazed for that feeling. Thor is clearly the same, wants his father's approval after all the Giants he made Thor slay. But Thor becomes depressed about being a monster. But he's odins tool not son. Heimdal wants all fathers attention like a lost puppy and will remain loyal to the end ..Odin forced loyalty on them and if they show the most loyalty and blind following the all father favoured them. Look at Magni and Modi Magni was overconfident most likely didn't obey Odin at every whim so he sent them put to die against this Giant or foreign God.
Heimdall wasn't around long, but he's everything Hermes failed at being in GOW3. Menacing,Annoying, threatening, spoiled and Cocky, entitled, and actually carried a very great amount of intimidation when they built up how Threatening this guy is.
False. More like both Heimdall and Hermes were annoying, threatening, spoiled, and cocky, just that Heimdall was actually a lot less boastful and more tame than Hermes was.
@Hhgh Fhhfh yea there's no way he deserved a nomination over the others in the game. If they wanted to give it to one of the kids then Laya deserved it way more than he did.
Heimdall never flaunted his abilities to be fair. You acts in a cocky way but the only way we even learned about him was through other characters. The only time he mentioned his own abilities was in a secret dialogue where he talks about envying Odin because he is able to see good, while Heimdall only sees people for what they really are.
@@lekacious3529 No, no, he definitely flaunted his abilities--main point in trying to catch the explosive spear that screwed him over instead of trying to straight up dodge it.
Respect heimdall strength -Is stated to be able to beat thor in combat. - Kratos needed a specific weapon to counter him even calling that weapon "their best chance". -Is literally untouchable so much so that sindri called him undefeated. - People think he is weak because he got defeated but kratos is literally the ONLY person to ever touch him and that is because of the spear without it kratos might have lost before he found another way to touch him.
Idk, some draupnir moves must be could be imitated in some way "Overwhelming the one senses" Its not thor weaknesses and thor could done that in some way with his lightning (he is shown to be able to sent a giant snake back in time, so why not?) Heimdall power is just "slightly foresight the future" to predict enemy movement and react to it on the present. The future now changes to him dodging your attack If you cant do shit to react to it, your fate is sealed. Getting smashed on face. Its just create worriness to someone not used to it
@@Ultimate0Phantasm I really appreciate and commend you post. I’ve seen so many say Heimdall was weak and overrated, but I think their strong love affair for Kratos blinds them from seeing worthy adversaries. And Heimdall is that, Kratos himself gave him props.
@@3takoyakis Heimdall power is not foresight to the future its seeing his enemy "Intentions" added the fact that he also have godly senses and speed makes him untouchable so much so that only kratos is able to touch him The only reason kratos is able to touch him is because of the spear overloading his senses and kratos closing his heart and head meaning Heimdall not only have his senses overload he also can't sense kratos intentions added the fact that kratos is literally one of the most skilled fighter in the game.
Honestly if I could read people's thoughts through observation and had to see everyone lie to me and themselves around me, along with having an awful unpleasable father like Odin, I'd be a dick too. There's just no joy in Heimdall's life other than getting some cheap thrills out of making people as miserable as he is everyday. He does a thankless job and everybody despises or disrespects him. Doesn't excuse his actions, but you can see how someone would turn out this way.
Finally, A nuance post about the character. Instead of "calling him annoying, dick or the "Hermes" of this saga" Don't get me wrong Heimdall is a pure asshole, but damnit if he isn't an interesting character. I would definitely love seeing a game or something through his perspective.
Lots of people in Asgard have bad parents and jobs they don't really like, though. Thrud wants to be a Valkyrie but her parents don't want her to. And Thrud is a well-liked and kind person. Asgard dislikes Heimdall because he's mean, not because he has a bad job or he's some misunderstood prodigy. If you know for a fact that everyone you meet is lying to you and to themselves, then you can just as easily learn not to hold it against them, because you also know they can't help themselves. Not to mention that you also have the power to see the good in people, to see when someone genuinely has no malice towards you. Being mean is always a choice.
Probably my favorite character, to bad it was short lived. He reminded me of a lot of baldur real calm and cool, a shame heimdell didn’t have a bigger part in the game.
@@grandcanyon-fu9zt He's a god made miserable by his own power. Just like Heimdall. Heimdall was just less manic about it because he still could get some meager pleasures.
@@grandcanyon-fu9zt True unfortunately he wasn’t in this game. But I like hemidell, he just reminded me of him. Hemidell could have been the main villain for this game if done right
Heimdall: "So... what part of the enormous wall made you think, 'oh, visitors must be welcome'?" Atreus: "Well see, there were these guide markers going all along it from bottom to top, so..."
Heimdall: "Oh, *guide markers* conveniently put in certain locations in a wall designed to keep out invaders? What bright spark ever thought of that?" *eyerolling*
I’m surprised that he became my favorite character introduced in Ragnarok and my favorite Norse God. I love just how Baldur’s “blessed with invulnerability to all threats physical or magical” came at a price of not being able to feel literally anything Heimdalls foresight comes at a cost of seeing only the worst of people which makes him jaded and unable to trust anyone leading to being hated by everyone. He’s massively underrated as a legitimate threat because he doesn’t have titanic strength like Thor or Hercules but he doesn’t need it as his other abilities/skills more than make up for it. Aside from his power of foresight (which is the greatest form we’ve seen in the series), he’s the only enemy to have the ability to realm shift by altering time, his mastery of the Bifrost is rivaled only by Odin as both can create a Bifrost armor/covering and can use it offensively, his speed while not as fast as Hermes in my opinion is still superior to every other god, and his hand to hand skills as well as swordsmanship make excellent use of his foresight using swift strikes such as a sword tilt to the stomach to put his enemy on his knees before they can react. The only complaint I have is I would have preferred that he liked animals because he can see they have no ulterior motives and it would also serve as a way for him to be more as a rival to Atreus/Loki both of them being fond of animals for different reasons.
nah that would've given them actual common ground which would've muddied the waters too much for establishing Heimdall as a proper villain, I guess you can assume he got bored of how simple animals were because he really seems to delight in fucking with people
@@Frikcha It's both hilarious and disturbing that given Heimdall's powers of foresight one of his favourites pastimes might be just standing up in the middle of a room snooping on everyone's thoughts nearby while having a drink. We can actually see him doing that when we first play with Atreus on Asgard.
And don’t forget Mimir says he has never seen anyone lay a finger on Heimdall. And remember Mimir lived in Asgard during the Aesir-Vanir war. That says a lot!
Fun fact, in the Eddas, I believe Heimdall is also a son of Odin along with Tyr, Thor, and Baldur. So Odin raised an abused and murderous drunkard, a mind reading a-hole, an unfeeling lunatic, and the only good Aesir God. Makes you realize how bad of a father Odin was considering only one of his four sons turned out to be good.
Fuck it, its a game which midas put his hands on lava and then thrown into lava There were also poseidon wives thrown into grinding gear just to open the door
i like what happened at 27:02. the lady took Kratos' blood and saw the god of war symbol, and i think she refused to imbue that part of Kratos so she took the spartan warrior side of him, hence the symbol shift. nice little touch
@@SuccessQuotesMotivation emphasis on the "i think". the lady didn't say a single word during the whole sequence so i guess we're free to speculate and that's what i think happened
@@arvee3451 Well that is considered arrogant and delusional. Especially after my comment. Also emasculate for you to exclude the God of War symbol, even though that's not even what it was. It was the omega symbol. Nor was it not included. "I think" you are a young lad who's been stripped of his male hormones.
Heimdall's character is so unique. When Odin said "Sometimes he just doesn't think, y'know" got me "think"ing. Heimdall either can sees through people's mind or can sense threats. He knows their intentions but doesn't "think" to understand why. Sure, it's depressing and torturous to see how horrible people are, but you just gotta understand why, before comes into conclusion about who they really are. Heimdall's power is really good, but he just won't stop thinking that they are bad just because they have bad intentions, resulting him being such an asshole to anyone even though they've never done anything to him YET. That's why Heimdall's character is so unique, but boy he could've gone through a better route if he changed the way he "thinks".
The thing is, Heimdall sees peoples true intentions which includes things that they don't even know about themselves. Heimdall literally told Atreus his own backstory. He knows everything about EVERYONE.
This is actually a very good point. Heimdall: he means to betray you allfather. Odin: Of course he means to betray me. Do you know who tf i am to them? I've given them no reason to trust me. So before you go around killing my guests, exercise some THOUGHT and his bad intentions won't seem bad. it'll just seem like common sense. There's a difference between intentions and actions. What a person wants to do, wishes they could do, can do and will do are all mutually exclusive. Heimdall doesn't "think" he thinks at face value which makes him seem stupid and an asshole to everyone else cause if i have intentions of cheating, but never do and resist that urge, its not a bad intention, its just a natural urge and i'm actually good for resisting that. Heimdall thinks you're an asshole for daring to be attracted to someone else and treats you like it. And you've only ever met this guy once in the mead hall or something and didnt even meet him directly. Yea i'd hate him too lol.
@@kazama195 No no no. The thing is, Heimdall doesn't see face value and that's the problem. He only sees thing deep down. He talks about envying Odin for his ability to see good in a secret dialogue. Heimdall can only see true intentions which makes him kind of justified, speaking that it is also his job to kill people who are a threat to Odin. And in the end Heimdall was right.
Yeah right I love his complex, it's genuinely so cool with so much to think about. He's *technically* right to be on edge and haughty, but he's grown bored and listless towards everything around him. Due to his ability, he let himself get so prideful, but without any humility he made enemies of friends and such rookie mistakes thinking he was actually invincible.
I love how heimdall is kind of an anti-Baldir. Baldur can’t feel pain and so feel eternally alienated from others and is almost grateful to kratos when he finally feels pain. heimdall’s abilities meant he never had to face pain and uses it to laud his superiority over others, but when he finally feels even a small amount of pain after kratos hits him he immediately falls apart.
@BlackStar-hy1iy He got immediately and permanently dazed by the fact he got hit. Notice how the - what do you call it...stun? Stagger? - meter doesn't recede. He became permanently staggered by the fact that he got hit once. Also notice he just flails his sword and hands around without skill and just relies on his power completely. This guy doesn't know real combat and I doubt he accepted training because of his overconfidence
Ooooooo shit heimdall Is harry What a difference role can make from sounding so worried and or scared and optimistic as Harry to being a dick In this game
I really liked the small touch in the end where Heimdall asks what happens in the "empty head" of Kratos. To me it's not only an insult of his barbaric ways, but rather disbelief. Through the last two games Kratos teached Atreus to harness his panic and use it in the fight, to clear his mind and close his heart. Additionally, when he hunted he teached him to see the enemy or prey only as a target, limiting his emotions to a bare minimum. My theory would be that Kratos won not only by overloading Heimdall's senses with the Draupnir spear but also by limiting his ability to forsee his next move by blocking Heimdall from reading his mind during the fight. Simply because when the time calls for it, he is able to fight with an "empty" calm mind . He even aknowledge it when he sits with Thor in the begining of the game answering his question about being calm and reasonable.
Yes, youre right. Many boxers can block, punch, evade and point his target without even think about it. One is muscular memory amd the other is the brain. In some stressful situation the brain changes waves to fast that even scanners can handle. Of of those waves its theta that allows the body to move out of instint, that can be seem when people get in car accidents and act faster to survive. One example in real life its ali avoiding the attacks of his opponent and Mocking him. The other wave is gamma and tends to be realese when we get sleep.
I feel like the developers had a different idea for how Heimdall was supposed to look between games given the early picture we see of him. The clean shaven appearance fits him better anyways, as a nice foil to Thor whose messy look shows how little he thinks of himself, Heimdall's lack of beard and short finely cut hair emphasizes how highly he thinks of himself with how much he has to put into his appearance. While he doesn't look like much, when the initial fight starts, you notice "he doesn't have a life bar." This is a nice break from how forgettable most of the gods in the older games were, Heimdall is a supporting villain, but he's still nicely built up someone you can love to hate and enemy who has weight in the story since it takes a new weapon forged specifically to kill him to stand a chance, and even then it still takes some quick thinking on Kratos' part to use it right.
then you realise they gave him ps1 boss mechanics and have to make him touch the glowing explosive, god who can see all but a fucking spear sticking out the ground right in front of him
Does anyone know why Heimdall was so loyal to Odin? Considering Odin true wishes are just for his pursue for knowledge and not to protect the realm (which is what heimdall wishes for), I'm curious to know why he still remains so loyal and faithful
Odin never lie nor deceive himself. He truly believe what he done is a right thing and never wavered about it no matter consequences he must pay. I truly believe Odin really wanna protect the realm, his realm, as he envisioned and no other else.
Seeing an unfiltered Odin would be a very scary experience. Heimdall was probably terrified of him and what he was truly capable of, seeing what he's willing to do - and sacrifice - for his own goals.
Atreus couldn't read minds of Odin's ravens, and considering they are extensions of Odin's will, Heimdall most likely doesn't have access to mindreading of Odin himself either
I’d disagree with casting. Odins voice and Thors voice are just off to me especially since literally Baldur, Magni, and Modi all had “scandinavian” accents so why does everyone in this game all of a sudden talk with American ones? Are those 3 the only ones that have accents and if so why? It’s so stupid and inconsistent. Heimdall gets a pass because he nailed the cocky bully voice but Odin isn’t even intimidating at all he’s a creepy old man whos filled with insecurity, AC Valhalla literally had a way better Odin who represented a king of gods and not a school principal
@@karabovilakazi5021 No if you listen to how he talks he has a slight accent for instance when he tells Kratos he expected him to be “bigger” he pronounces it as “bigga” it’s not a perfect accent or anything but it’s still way better and immersive than a flat out American one

loved heimdall. Yes he was a snarky douche and gives off Hermes vibes but mans was no bitch. Not to mention his hands and precog was so goated that he never gotten touched in combat. So much so that Kratos needed a spear to get an advantage to beat him. Wish he survived longer
Fuck yes exactly, fans keep dissing Heimdall. But the Ghost Of Sparta himself gave Heimdall props in his journal. I think Heimdall should have lasted till the siege of Asgard.
Finally someone that actually know his strength he is stated also to be able to WIN against thor in combat and sindri calling him undefeated has some truths in it kratos even called that spear "Their only chance" people think he is weak because he lost but he was fighting kratos thats why.
@@Ultimate0Phantasm well I would actually say that instead of him fighting Kratos being the reason he lost, it was moreso of Kratos having a direct hard counter to his abilities. Had Kratos went in blind and even with all the rage and strength he could muster against Heimdall, he would still lose due to getting outmaneuvered and ultimately Heimdall would kill him via pure skill
"I am not your enemy"-"I will be the judge of that." And he pulls him up, because Heimdall looked into Atreus' eyes and saw that he truly believed it. How could Atreus see him as a real foe, Aesir or not, he just met him and had no terrible stories to make him think otherwise.
Honestly if heimdall had remained composed in phase 2 instead of letting his emotions get the better of him he might have been able to out do kratos by way of speed alone.
Kratos still have trump card, you see this is why mind reader's greatest nightmare is an insane opponent, Kratos have Spartan Rage, and Heimdall reads intention, you might not gonna like what Kratos have in mind when he's in Spartan Rage
In fandom, where liking a character much more than Kratos is a cardinal sin. I committed that sin in abundance. Because I loved Heimdall. He and Thor were my favorite characters of the whole game, in fact the Aesir as a whole were my favorite thing out of the game. I find them a very fascinating group with Heimdall being a strong stand out. His designs, personality, voice, powers and skill set were all so entertaining and cool. It would be so sweet to see more of him in some shape way or form. He is just so damn riveting.
Kratos is my third favorite with thor on second and guess who on first Yes,sindri,my man offered shelter, resources and his helping hand to kratos and atreus and in return he got a dead brother who will never find peace in the afterlife and the burden of being part of a race thats oppresed by the king of the aesir
I loves heimdall. Sure he’s snarky and douchy but he’s similar like Baldur in a sense , where they are both broken by cursed powers. Just like not being able to feel anything drove Baldur to madness , Heimdalls power to read minds must’ve been so awful to have. You can only see the worst in people and what they truly think down inside , and i think that would always create someone who’s distrustful and pissy. Cant help but feel bad for the guy who can read everyone’s dark thoughts and lies for centuries , really well written character and i wish he didn’t die so soon , i feel like he could’ve had some form of redemption or an upbringing like Baldur.
Except for the fact that I think he also enjoyed being like that, "untouchable". In fact, I think he and Baldur are complete opposites. With one not even wanting to live for not being able to feel anything, and the other bragging about not ever feeling pain or being in danger. When Baldur started feeling again he was even grateful for Kratos and when Heimdall was punched he was devastated that he was vulnerable and started going full on offensive mode since he was scared for his life not even using his foresight ability. So yeah in a way they are in the same league, but total opposites.
9:07 If we put this scene into context when heindall ask thor how he was going to stop him when thor said "look into my eyes and tell me" maybe this is meant to insinuate that he was going to shove the arrow up is a... Heindall does drop the arrow calling him a sick man.
Heimdall is so damn good man. He Easily one of my favorite characters they’ve ever done. His personality and voice actor is perfect. Also, I never caught the Thor line “look into my eyes, you tell me” when Heimdal asked how he was gonna stop him. Thor was gonna demolish him in the worst way possible and Heimdall backed down cause he saw his intentions. Brilliant.
@@alexd9550 untrue look at the crater. Thor would have nuked that little area with lighting. Killing innocent Asgardians if needed. Maybe that's why he a sick man. You may be able to predict an explosion. Doesn't mean you can dodge it if you next to it
31:15 that little hug between Kratos & Atreus, that type of love, seamless, just part of the fabric of how they move. That's SO hard to act out naturally. Incredible direction!
Something I noticed, when some character talked they say “All father will not be pleased” or “you cannot stand against all father”, but Heimdall always says “THE All-Father”
I like how his role as Bifrost guardian and Protector of the Asgard wall plays a larger role in his ability to predetermine others moves. As we already know the Bifrost consists of the Light of Alfheim and the Lake of Souls. The Light of Alfheim shows previous and future events of whoever goes inside. I like that lil detail and how it coincides with what he can do.
I love each and every Villain/Antagonist in the game. Freya was a good obstacle to test Kratos’s struggle for his past coming back to haunt him. Heimdall reminds me of Baldur where they’re both blessed with abilities that made them unfamiliar with pain, it’s also how his personality stands out as an eccentric Aesir. As well as how he was the start of a possible Kratos giving into his anger. Thor as the one that is willing to change but has been manipulated by Odin to the point where fighting his influence was futile and eventually lead to his death. As well as showing an unhealthy way to cope with grief, being a reminder of Kratos himself. Odin being the mastermind in all of this where he never was really shaken and now we know why at the end. His charisma and how they chose to never show him doing anything as sadistic as people have told the audience, to then suddenly break it by having Odin stab a beloved character. Just everyone in this game is just so well written.
3:37 Gotta love this moment with Heimdall doing some serious projecting of his own issues onto Loki, considering he has his own "overshadowing father figure he can never live up to." Also, Heimdall calling Loki "disrespectful, entitled, and impulsive", pot meet kettle. But that seems to be Heimdall's biggest weakness, he's so sure he's better than everyone else because he can read intentions, and yet the one mind he never bothered to read was his own.
It is not often that kratos gives people a chance to walk away and save themselves. Heimdall should have took that offer, he probably would have survived Ragnarok had he not been so loyal and devoted to that one-eyed paranoid fool
On the contrary, he did it a whole lot in the original trilogy. At least 90% of the people and gods he killed were collateral damage who didn’t have the brains or good sense to mind their business or stay out of Kratos’ way, despite him giving them every chance to do so.
Might be wrong about this but i thought that Vikings actually believed that not dying on the battlefield is the greatest shame a warrior could face. Only those that died in battle could have the blessing of the gods, and be selected by Odin and his valkyries to join them in valhalla. I interpreted Heimdall's reluctance that he didn't wish to shame himself by not dying a warrior's death. That and his ego and not wanting to die by the hands of 'the half-breeds' dad.
@@wesleygriffiths8748 you are right. Even in GOW3 (arguably when the angriest Kratos ever been) he only wished to get Zeus. Helios, Poseidon, Heracles, Hera, etc, they ASKED for a fight.

15:54 There are about 1,329,832 Draupnir copies in the cave (+1 original)! Draupnir has been in that cave for about 4104 of our years. See below for math. Draupnir creates 8 copies of itself on every 9th day. Roughly 324 new rings appear during each of our years. This ring looks like it's about 1cm thick, and the average ring diameter for men is about 1.6cm. Accounting for material thickness, let's say each ring is (roughly) a cylinder with a radius of 1cm and a height of 1cm. This gives us a volume of 3.14 cubic centimeters. Densely packed circles (hexagonal arrangement) fill 91% of the space they occupy. Let's be charitable and say that the rings are packed fairly densely - maybe 80%, accounting for the fact that rings can intersect each other slightly and that a bunch of disc-shaped objects will most likely settle parallel to the floor. For the Z dimension, let's assume that the rings are stacked in 1.2cm-thick layers (it won't be perfect, obviously - I chose this arbitrarily). A cubic meter would contain about 21,165 rings. (~83 layers, each layer has a total area of 1000cm^2, 80% packing density = 800cm^2, 800 divided by cross-sectional area of ring (3.14cm^2) = ~255, 255 * 83 = 21,165.) The chamber appears to be fairly large, maybe 10 meters in diameter based on Sindri's size. We don't know how deep the rings are piled, but let's say that it's 2 meters. That's a total volume of ~62.8 cubic meters occupied by rings, which means that there are about 1329839 rings in the cave. However, Draupnir produces copies in increments of 8, so 1329839 % 8 = 7, which means that there are a total of 1329832 copies and 1 original in the cave. 1329832/324 new rings per year = 4104 years. Not gonna do the leap year calculation.
He’s actually one of the more honorable characters as he was the only thing standing between Atreus and Odin . He’s so clearly dedicated it makes me respect him , despite how much of an asshole he is . He was only trying to protect Asgard .
I have never hated yet loved a character more in my life. I hate how much of a bully he is, the way he treated Atreus and Thrud but his cockiness and overconfidence cannot be ignored. He’s a remarkable character and his voice acting suits him perfectly.
I honestly did pity this guy he relied solely on his agility to read people and when that began to fail he he crumpled like paper failing to even try to adapt defaulting to flailing around with progressively more reckless attacks that only resulted in him being beaten faster. He is a bully with a fancy knife barley able to be the sum of his parts an unable to be anything more, a lot like Homelander in a way. A very well done character.
Haimdall Kinda reminds me of Agent Smith from the Matrix, clever, cruel, far sighted and diffrent from the usual black and white personalitys and dialogues wish is allways welcomed
11:17 - This is Heimdalls greatest flaw and ironically enough what led to his death AND the destruction of Asgard. Let me explain:::: What is Heimdalls purpose? - To protect Asgard. His ability to read minds and see your intentions makes him the perfect guardian. Now, what did Heimdall say about Atreus when they first met? - 3:30, 4:00 - 4:38, 6:51 He saw that Atreus had hostile intentions, and as the protector of Asgard, what did he do? What would be his natural response? He planned to kill Atreus. To remove the threat to the realm he loved. Because Heimdall planned to kill Atreus, Kratos planned to kill Heimdall to save his son. This ended not only with Heimdall dead but also allowed Kratos to obtain Gjallarhorn, which started Ragnarok, which then destroyed Asgard. So you can see how Odin's words were not only true, but they were essentially a doom prophesie like Ragnarok itself. Heimdalls flaw is that he forgets to think. Because of his arrogance and overconfidence, he doesn't feel the need to think 1, 2, 5, or 10 steps ahead. He doesn't even think about the consequences of his own actions. Weirdly enough, Heimdall is very perceptive & very stupid at the same time. His perceptive nature, his gift of reading minds, has ironically made him even more shortsighted. And it was because of this flaw that the "protector of Asgard" also became the "killer of Asgard". Like the Nords said, we all have our tendencies. Kratoss tendency to protect his loved ones no matter what & Heimdalls tendency to protect the realm he loves no matter what made it inevitable for them to meet at some point. Especially since they were at war. Even if Atreus didn't go to Asgard, Kratos, and Heimdall would have crossed paths eventually. Kratos and Atreus were a threat to Asgard, which made them a target for Heimdall, And Heimdall going after Atreus would make Kratos kill him to protect his family. Just following their natural tendencies... Great game, with incredibly well-written characters, and an AMAZING story!
@@gpavitra85 During Ragnarok, Loki and Heimdall were meant to be rivals decided by fate. In this game however, Atreus is Heimdall while Heimdall ironically is Loki
I think the worst part about the gods in this universe is the irony of their situations Baldur is immortal and invulnerable but doesn’t feel alive because of the lack of danger. Thor is a incredibly strong warrior who Laments his role in the pantheon who would probably be a lot happier living in peace with his family. Heimdall can see and hear everything even seeing peoples intentions and future actions and this had made him bored and cynical which ironically makes him the most predictable person in the pantheon.
When I first met Heimdall, I completely missed taking in the view and went straight for the elevator at first. I thought Heimdall being offended was only because I didn't even take a moment to look at the view of Asgard, looks like he's an asshole either way 💀
Heimdalls death really sticks out too me. Because with every other God killed it was either violent or quick Magni got an axe buried into his face and Baldur got his neck snapped. But Heimdall died slowly. A solid 10 seconds of staring into his eyes as he fights too breath. That Dropnir thing is quite the gift! Something that duplicates any weapon it touches infinitely. Can you imagine the possibilities? That has to be the greatest treasure ever conceived!
He is not good in his strategy despite his abilities. Even he can beat Thor in a fight, he is unlike Kratos who manage to beat Heimdall due to strategy.
You know, with all the Heimdall scenes I was always wondering what he saw when looking at others, except at Odin. I think at 10:48 he saw Odin's fervor to actually fully take up Atreus, something Odin didn't even technically do for Heimdall outside of work. Perhaps a fundamental sense of jealousy drove him, from here. Just a thought.
I just realised something, Asgard is not really guarded by a wall but more so built into the wall and situated just a little bit further down the top of the wall, so it's more of a tower guarded by a cliff face. Right?
Directors did a great job with Heimdall's foresight. Even from that first talk between him and Atreus, he didn't know everything but was perceptive enough to know when he's lying and telling the truth.
Seems to be 99% of people think Heimdall was “scared” of Thor, when he could perfectly counter Kratos until he made a very specific weapon to counter him. Hiemdall said “you’re a sick man” because he saw that Thor would betray everything/ruin everything. Worst part Kratos/Atreus are the “bad guys” in these last two GOW games. Hiemdall is/was the savior. A hero with different goals than our protagonist. Same can be said about Pain/Nagato and Obito in the Naruto series.
Thank you i keep seeing this nonsense, he told Thrudd himself he isn't scared of Thor, he only left that times out of disgust and not fear, but people are too stupid or fanboy to accept the facts.
You're living up to your name (retarded) Heimdall isn't a hero and kratos and atreus aren't villains from any perspective. Odin is paranoid with control issues and tried to wipe out everyone that was a threat and used the gods under his command to make that so. They didn't attack until they were attacked, same with the jotnar and most other threats to Odin. Your interpretation is moronic because the game clearly shows how villainous nearly every God in this pantheon is, and unlike the original trilogy where that was the case but kratos was clearly overdoing the violence, in this game they are both going out of their way to not harm anyone except for Heimdall, who is so irredeemably racist, violent, and arrogant that kratos can't spare him even after offering him multiple chances.
Honestly, that just makes Heimdall an idiot. Thor has killed countless droves of giants that Heimdall has shown no ability to even combat and people do realize that Thor was strong enough to battle Jormungandr and shake the World Tree so badly Jormie got sent back in time. Heimdall can dodge and weave but he doesn't have the arsenal or skillset Kratos had to beat Thor. Also he doesn't ever tell Thor to his face he is not scared of him and considering Heimdall was more than willing to backdown once Thor got serious I would imagine he know his limits and Thor is beyond them.
@@sohflipz4439 there is nothing to suggest in the original myth or the god of war games that Thor could touch Heimdall...in the myth, only Loki is said to kill Heimdall during the final stages of Ragnarok but even then Heimdall was so strong he ended up killing Loki at the same time....in the god of war game, the spear is the only weakness Heimdall has been shown to have because it's the one weapon that could overload his senses, I don't see how Mjolnir could do that or Thor with his thunder could....
After Atreus fires his last arrow at Heimdall, Heimdall gets annoyed that some mud got on him implying he didn't see that coming. Also shows that he can be subverted later on.
Ya know, I’ve always wondered why he’s never interacted with Sif. Maybe it’s because he’s probably afraid to get near her with all that golden hair or maybe, he had an interaction by maybe saying or doing something to offend her about her family so much, she was able to grab him by her hair until he either got loose or Odin told her to let him go.
Wait a minute... That moment when Heimdall says Atreus means to betray Odin and Odin turns to confront Atreus on this, Heimdall moves to the side. He has a grin that says "Oh you're going to get it NOW," but then Odin says he's joking and turns back around to where Heimdall was, expecting him to be there. If Heimdall can read minds, shouldn't he have known that Odin was just messing with the boy and thus not be smiling? Or have stayed put rather than moved? It seemed like he didn't know what Odin was going to do, which may be evidence that he can't read Odin's mind at all.
@@illuminate8321 I always figured he had to look at a person in order to read their intent, not their minds. Otherwise, he'd be vulnerable to surprise attacks from behind and that's a major flaw to his ability, and it surely would have been brought up by someone in the game. In order for him to be considered untouchable, he has to be able to read the minds of people he can't see.

Knowing Odin's scheming abilities, there's probably a good chance Odin encouraged Heimdall to antagonize Atreus even infront of himself so he can try and be friendly with Atreus to win his trust. definitely an idea though.
Good cop bad cop routine

The only complaint I have is I would have preferred that he liked animals because he can see they have no ulterior motives and it would also serve as a way for him to be more as a rival to Atreus/Loki both of them being fond of animals for different reasons.
nah that would've given them actual common ground which would've muddied the waters too much for establishing Heimdall as a proper villain, I guess you can assume he got bored of how simple animals were because he really seems to delight in fucking with people
He probably liked animals before but as times passes he just got more corrupted to the point he only cares about himself

I know exactly who Thor is and I don't need to think about it. He is nothing more than muscle toxic masculity male monster.
Yeah right I love his complex, it's genuinely so cool with so much to think about. He's *technically* right to be on edge and haughty, but he's grown bored and listless towards everything around him. I love how heimdall is kind of an anti-Baldir.

“You a little trickster?”🤣🤣
I just realize the scene where heimdall caught atreus' arrow, atreus was aiming for his head. He really wanted to unsubscribe him from asgard.
Actually i think he was more annoyed with the mud coming all over his face from that arrow lol
Heimdall is so damn good man. He
Easily one of my favorite characters they’ve ever done. His personality and voice actor is perfect.
Also, I never caught the Thor line “look into my eyes, you tell me” when Heimdal asked how he was gonna stop him. Thor was gonna demolish him in the worst way possible and Heimdall backed down cause he saw his intentions. Brilliant.

"Little shit... using my own lines on me."
Something I noticed, when some character talked they say “All father will not be pleased” or “you cannot stand against all father”, but Heimdall always says “THE All-Father”
I read people compare Heimdall to Hermes and other than the trash talking, I think at least Heimdall can backup his taunts.
I really like Heimdall as a character. I wonder who would win between him and Baldur?
Baldur is way stronger
Baldur
Baldur bro without mistletow.
Baldur if he was still immortal would just outlast him otherwise
Heimdall powers would make him untouchable and he would win
@@4wheal Baldur is still more powerful even without his invulnerability
It's kind of ironic that Heimdall is exactly how I imagine Loki would be like in Norse mythology.
U should've included all character interactions about Heimdall. After his death, a lot of NPC's reacted to it.
What were they saying?
Heimdall is what Atreus could have been if Kratos didn't put a stop to his ego.

I really like the "empty head" remark. Means that Kratos is purposely not thinking at all as to not give Heimdall the advantage of reading his mind. Pretty cool.
I agree (I do not understand)
Man's built different
He’s actually one of the more honorable characters as he was the only thing standing between Atreus and Odin . He’s so clearly dedicated it makes me respect him , despite how much of an asshole he is . He was only trying to protect Asgard .
My favorite character in Ragnarok and possibly my favorite villain in the entire series so far
I have never hated yet loved a character more in my life. I hate how much of a bully he is, the way he treated Atreus and Thrud but his cockiness and overconfidence cannot be ignored. He’s a remarkable character and his voice acting suits him perfectly.
Heimdall is my fave in this game how he moves and acts is very suave, I'd say he earns it. LoL
Agreed
what’s crazy is that Heimdall is technically older than Baldur, he seemed like the youngest out of all his brothers
Right he looks to be 19 or somewhere in his early 20s
I honestly did pity this guy he relied solely on his agility to read people and when that began to fail he he crumpled like paper failing to even try to adapt defaulting to flailing around with progressively more reckless attacks that only resulted in him being beaten faster. He is a bully with a fancy knife barley able to be the sum of his parts an unable to be anything more, a lot like Homelander in a way.
A very well done character.

One of the best villain entrances in history. Not just gow but every game
Heimdall's cynical, dismissive sarcasm is legendary.😂
11:17 - This is Heimdalls greatest flaw and ironically enough what led to his death AND the destruction of Asgard.
Let me explain::::
What is Heimdalls purpose? - To protect Asgard. His ability to read minds and see your intentions makes him the perfect guardian.
Now, what did Heimdall say about Atreus when they first met? - 3:30, 4:00 - 4:38, 6:51
He saw that Atreus had hostile intentions, and as the protector of Asgard, what did he do?
Kratos and Atreus were a threat to Asgard, which made them a target for Heimdall,
And Heimdall going after Atreus would make Kratos kill him to protect his family.
Just following their natural tendencies...
Great game, with incredibly well-written characters, and an AMAZING story!
I like how this Heimdall is essentially what actual mythology Loki would be like, and Loki is like what actual mythology Heimdall would be like

@@TheAnimalKingdom-tq3sz ah i see
I think the worst part about the gods in this universe is the irony of their situations Baldur is immortal and invulnerable but doesn’t feel alive because of the lack of danger.

I just realised something, Asgard is not really guarded by a wall but more so built into the wall and situated just a little bit further down the top of the wall, so it's more of a tower guarded by a cliff face. Right?
To enter Asgard, you either needed the ability to fly or use a Warp magic to get to the top of the cliffside.
Directors did a great job with Heimdall's foresight. Even from that first talk between him and Atreus, he didn't know everything but was perceptive enough to know when he's lying and telling the truth.

You're living up to your name (retarded)
Heimdall isn't a hero and kratos and atreus aren't villains from any perspective.

It’s satisfying to watch Heimdall on the defensive end of a fight
That probably true tbh 💀
He has to look at the person to read their minds. He was looking at Atreus and he could sense Atreus’ fear.
@@illuminate8321 I always figured he had to look at a person in order to read their intent, not their minds.
