This film shows what it's like for children to live in a world with no human compassion. It's deeply moving and so very sad. Home sweet home to my mind is an anthem for childhood. When it played in the movie I couldn't prevent tears. Everyone should watch Grave Of The Fireflies. It shows us that if you're not kind, if you don't try to help, if you don't care for the plight of others then unspeakably bad things happen. Kindness and human compassion could change the world. The problem is not enough people want to show some. Grave Of the Fireflies 1945 is so reminiscent of today in 2016. We never learn ...
Even today the news of war between countries, showing each other's weapons powers makes me sad.. human never learns about the compassion and love and need of a peaceful place for a better future 🥺🥺

This song has been with me since I was little. It was programmed into one of my toys, and I would play it over and over again. Then I saw this movie, and it fit so perfectly. I couldn't help but cry.
I've watched this film three times now; once by myself, once with my mom, and once with my ex-girlfriend. I cried each time even though I totally knew what to expect. I might have choked up over maybe 2-3 films in my life that I can recall, but none had me sobbing like this one. Not just at the inhumanity of war and the innocent lives it destroys, but at what this film punctuated even more strongly, which is society's indifference to each other.
I just finished watching this 15 minutes ago ... I can't even think about anything. One of the most, if not the most, beautiful and heartbreaking films I have ever had the pleasure to watch. sobbing. uncontrollably.

Merci, merci, merci de créer des films aussi prenants.
No movie has ever ripped my heart to shreds like this one. I'm talking SOBBING for at least the first hour straight. By the time things start to wind down, I usually have nothing more in me to cry and just stare at the screen in numbed silence. If that's not catharsis, I don't know what is.

Oh god, the part where this song played. Watching her sowing like a little grown-up, then playing rock-scissors-paper with her own reflection.. just killed me.
You won't believe what you see if you watch "Only Yesterday", a subsequent Takahata anime, which has scenes and images which refer back to GotF, such as the bleeding injured hand, and a supremely bittersweet scene of dancing with delight over a fruity treat. Nobody that I know of has called "Only Yesterday" a sequel, but it sort of is; I know the films "Hester Street" and "Crossing Delancey" would most likely be off your radar, but the two pairs bear interesting comparison, as quasi-sequels, in which you can perceive social/cultural continuity amid transformation, over generations at a particular geographic milieu. When you watch the second film in each pair, it's like the characters from the first film hover like ghosts (or maybe ghosts reincarnated into the newer films' characters) in the second, haunting the location they share in common.
Grave of Fireflies is one of my favorite films that I would never re-watch. And years past already but I still remember the details of the movie. The siblings deserve better but whenever I think of their smiles when they met again in the afterlife makes my heart warm. The ending is bittersweet for me.

Takahata specifically wrote the words on the storyboard. "Charm from the sky seems to hallow us there" - referring both to the fireflies, and the firebombs is staggeringly poetic in the most tragic vein.
To me, this song is a happy song, even though it is a very sad moment in the film. The lyrics to me say that those who died young and innocent, or anyone who died in unfair ways have returned to Heaven, home. That they are safe and don't have to suffer anymore, they can live with their Father in Heaven and many family members who they have missed for so long. They are free from their pain and suffering, and are waiting for you and everyone of God's children. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen

I've seen a little over 100 anime titles (started watching anime in 2002), and Grave of the Fireflies is easily the best. While I don't cry like a baby when I hear this song (or when watching the movie itself), it definitely makes me shed tears because it's so beautiful and was used so perfectly in this film.
This song reminds me of my dog who passed away. Even at 18 years old, she acted like a puppy and was so pure in love and affection. In her last few days, she reminded me of Setsuko, the once happy child now tired and thin. It breaks my heart to see the young go so soon, and while my dog was physically old, she remained young at heart, like a child.
I had to watch this in film studies class. Amazing film to say the least, but I am so emotionally broken because of it. This scene was so well done as well, the music choice and the somewhat bittersweet feeling you get from it. You see Setsuko having fun and being happy, but you can’t help but cry because of the loss and all the previous incidents that happened in the film. I love this movie to pieces, but I am never gonna watch it again unless I’m forced to. It’s so beautifully made, but it’s so sad and painful.
This movie kills any worries we might have for personal issues, but replaces them with a realization that world really sucks. Sad but so painfully true. What world is that where such things happen billions of times for years and we just keep on living as if nothing happnes? :-(

At Iowa State University, they have the Stanton Carillon, built in the 1890s. When the first ten bells were installed, the first song played on the bells was Home Sweet Home.
I always watched that movie thinking how cruel the world can be, and now, the world did be cruel with my cat, Tiphony❤️ Rest in peace, for all how suffered with the world
The film is extremely sad but even then, there is some happiness at the end. The two siblings are reunited in death and they look at how their ruined hometown was rebuilt in the then-present time of the 1980s, nearly four decades after they died. I also noticed that the time between when the film came out and the present day is more or less the same time between World War II and the film's production.
A very beautiful song. I almost literally weep like a baby when they showed memories of Setsuko alive and being a kid while trying to survive on their own. I will agree the movie is definitely a one of the most groundbreaking achievements in animation history. You never feel this emotional deep and it does deal with dark elements of war and child starvation. It so makes The Lion King, The Land Before Time, and even Transformers the Movie death scenes look like their crying over a scrape

I am a older sister. I have a 8 year old brother, and I'm 19. When i watched this film for the first time, I ended up dehydrated. It is so full of details, colors and moments, but all of it is being slowly swallowed by the war and its consequences... Seita and Setsuko were so united, understanding and each other's anchor. The movie made me want to be a even more caring sister for my little brother. I love him so much and I want him to be happy everyday. I apologize if my English isn't correct.

It breaks my heart to see the young go so soon, and while my dog was physically old, she remained young at heart, like a child.
だめだ・・アニメは何度も観ているから大丈夫だと思ったのに、観ていたら涙が溢れてしまいました。
これほどピッタリな曲はないですね。大好きです。
I had to watch this in film studies class. Amazing film to say the least, but I am so emotionally broken because of it. This scene was so well done as well, the music choice and the somewhat bittersweet feeling you get from it. You see Setsuko having fun and being happy, but you can’t help but cry because of the loss and all the previous incidents that happened in the film. I love this movie to pieces, but I am never gonna watch it again unless I’m forced to. It’s so beautifully made, but it’s so sad and painful.
This is so heartbreaking..
I can see little Setsuko sitting on the lake playing games when I hear this song..
Cried so much watching the movie..
This is the song that made me cry so much
This movie kills any worries we might have for personal issues, but replaces them with a realization that world really sucks. Sad but so painfully true. What world is that where such things happen billions of times for years and we just keep on living as if nothing happnes? :-(
Kisah Terbaik Sepanjang Masa...
Lucky to have my parents caring and loving me too much, giving me the education I want even if my father is a carpenter, having to eat food 3 times a day and giving me values even in the age I didn't understand what they say but it was words with care and protecting me.
At Iowa State University, they have the Stanton Carillon, built in the 1890s. When the first ten bells were installed, the first song played on the bells was Home Sweet Home.
I always watched that movie thinking how cruel the world can be, and now, the world did be cruel with my cat, Tiphony❤️
Rest in peace, for all how suffered with the world
I can’t stop crying
Absolutely wrecked by the feels ;A;
(so many chills!)
I rare to cry but I can't resist this anime . While watching, I can't control my tears and emotions. I am sure that is my most favourite anime ever.
i love this film
The problem with this movie is that it places a nail in you heart....stuck there...forever...
I just watched this last night; those are my, quite literally, exact feelings.
I forgot to say Thank You for posting!
I miss my sweet, pre-covid home...
What happened
@@basedandchristpilled Well, I meant that I miss being able to travel to Montreal on a bus, just to stroll through shops and being able to go to the movies without a mask and such...
If you know this movie. This video will break your heart.
I love that Miyazaki made a "not feel-good" animated flick. He takes the art above and beyond what we know.
A beautiful movie that touches on a relationship American movies will probably never discuss.
LETS GET THIS MOVIE ENOUGH VOTES TO GO FROM 124 TO 1 ON THE IMDB TOP 250
The singing was so good and beautiful
I never watched the movie because I know that it's a punch to the soul I'll never recover from.
One person sucks! I love this music and this movie.
Both are beautiful!
@phubans couldn't agree with you more, beautifully put. This is the only film that I have ever literally weeped over, the profound sadness it makes me feel only seems to grow deeper and deeper every time I watch it.
My face actually became sore because I cried so much at this film
for those curious, this song also shows up in Lady and the Tramp
Wow beautiful song and vid! thnXXX 4sharing!
yup it is..... is at the end where they show the little girl (setsuko) playing alone while her bro works .
If someone has not not felt any sadness or cried when watching this it is because they just dont understand...
Wow, this movie.
No matter where in the world i was in the navy my heart always returned home
この曲を聞いてるとほんとに悲しい気持ちになります。戦争の恐ろしさを痛感します。今後二度と戦争が起きないことを願ってます
I gave this to my friend and said if you cry while watching the movie I get £10 he came in the next day like "I didn't cry, I'm just too manly!"
But his brother told me that he was in tears curled up in a ball xD
Makes me shiver Everytime I hear this song... The bit with setsuko.... D':
ooops! I see..Can't wait to watch it!
This movie is no.1 .... those who didn't even moved for this movie is without a doubt a beast . no offense =.= ..... i didn't cry for any movie in my whole life except for this movie which burst me into tears . BTW where can i buy this movie in Malaysia ?? THX
This song is heartbreaking, especially when it plays that little montage of setsuko playing and everything
A heart-breaking song for a heart-breaking movie.
J'essaie mais je n'y arrive pas. i can't listen to this song without thinking of the movie and without bursting into tears. I try hard but i can't
Finally the title of the vinyl song
Sorry I haven't seen this movie yet but am planning to, so this song isn't part of the movie? I thought it was! Well chosen! It is beautiful and the voice is too. :)
The montage in the film with this song playing is the saddest thing I have ever seen. :(
like that film =))
everyday i am always grateful for everything i have. no matter how bad things seem to me i know i could have it a whole lot worse.
this version is the best
